  1. Victoria British does carry them, probably in their MG or TR catalogs, tho.
  2. I was thinking about re-locating the filler also, if you need a longer hose here is a fairly cheap source for (filler/1 1/2" dia. gasoline compatible)hose.... . It's in the JC Whitney catalog in the marine (boat) section. 3ft, 5 ft, 10 ft sections.
  3. Naw, don't you watch "Sopranos"? floaters are the dead bodies of retired gangsters that wash up along rivers in New Jersey.
  4. Does the T-56 have a unique bellhousing? or will the trans work with my 60's Chevy truck V8 / 4 spd bellhousing (4 bolts spaced in a rectangle) with slave cyl mounting provisions... (as mentioned in the JTR)
  5. Here are some RWD applications with 4 x 4.5" bolt circles.... Surprise! GM cars! Buick - Special '61-'63 Chevrolet Corvair all 4-bolt Chevy II all 4-bolt Sprint '85-'87 Nova ('61-'70) Olds - F-85 '61-'63 Mazda RX-7 '79-'87 MGA, MGB, MGC '58-'80 Triumph TR-2, TR-3, TR-4, TR-250, TR-6
  6. http://members.tripod.com/turbostang/ Pretty cool stuff here. It's in a 5.0 Mustang Coupe, he runs a WC T-5. and NOS
  7. Some 914s had 6 cyls, but most are 4 cyls... Putting a SBC v-8 has been done - by Renegade, but they have to move the water pump over to a bracket on the side of the block. There is no more room up front. I suppose someone has stuffed a SBC the back of a Beetle. Seems like it would be doing wheelies ALL the time.
  8. Hey Ross. Well i am looking at the Maxima pieces in terms of availablility..... In my local junk yards this weekend there are 9 RWD Maxima (no bolt-on brake caliper brackets - I checked them all), and 3 240SXs but no 280ZXs with CVJ halfshafts. So I just threw out the idea to see if anyone else had found any similarity. I'm sure the comp. flange adaptor-to-the-stubs is needed at any rate Looking under the hind parts of every Maxima I found, noting the CVJ shafted IRS, got the idea rolling. Never guessed that the differential of a 2 ton sedan was a R-180. Equally moot maybe the CVJ axles are similarly light duty compared to Z pieces.
  9. Has anybody measured the Maxima halfshafts for use in a Z? Or do any parts work such as their companion flanges, stubs, joints,...?
  10. Try the front-wheel-drive Maxima caliper. I vagely remember the parking brake lever pulling the other direction, otherwise the mounting bolts are the same.
  11. I have a 3.0L V6 that I am going to put into a mid-engine project. This is a variant of the Buick 90-degree 3.8 v6, for a front-wheel drive applications I have read that they have a different bellhousing bolt pattern and crank bolt pattern. Anyone know if it is internally or externally balanced? I don't have the stock flexplate, and I think they only came with automatics, So I am looking at using the flywheel from a 3.1 or 2.8 Chevy V6.
  12. dang. I always wundered wut happind to mye prom date.
  13. Sorry if I missed this, but here's another question. I see the 280ZXT and 240Z have the same spline count, can you use 280ZXT stub axles on a 240Z-280Z cars hub carrier? Or just the inboard adaptor?

I looked for the magazine at WalMart last night, was it a recent issue??. THe Jan '02 covers are out now I looked in Super Street, Sport Compact Car, and others but didn't see a 240SX differential article in them.
  15. At the risk of sounding like a chant.....Buy the JTR Book....Buy the JTR Book. I had an early edition and it even had a chapter on smog laws (especially California). AS long as the transplant engine the same year to or newer than the car body, with all factory smog equipment intact, you're set and it'll pass. California 280's had catalytic converters, and so will your donor vehicle, so you'll have a cat or 2 in the exhaust system anyway same with Air pumps, charcoal cannisters, EGR valves - whatever. I feel the best source is a TPI 350 pulled from a Camaro / Firebird. (Say "Corvette" and pay 2 prices). But the thing about hybridZ is YOU build it to suit YOUR taste and budget. Ever hear Bill Cosby do that routine about the car he built with Wierd Harold? ....used a Cessna airplane engine out of the junkyard...... he does the sound effects so funny and the story captures the spirit of a hybridZ, determination, resourcefulness, pride of ownership.

Thanks for the info!!! So all I need to assemble is the $400 posi, the bolt spacer bushings (assuming the 240SX gearset uses 12mm bolts), and the $37.50 3.36 R-200 punkin I got at the junkyard - pulled from a low-mileage '79 280ZX. then my Hybrid Z is set up for less than $500!
  17. Saw a site with a Cobra Daytona Coupe replica under construction (the car, site was pretty upt o date). I think it was at our buddy Vinh's site.
  18. More on those air bubbles and a Great visual reference - thanx Eric! Just saw a photo on ZPARTS of a genny original Scarab bellhousing. It uses the stock Datsun slave cyl, moved over from pass. to the drivers side. The funtion of the holes are switched - bleeder bacame the hose (lower) - hose became the bleeder (upper).
  19. Don't know if they are still around, but Puckett Auto Designs used to make a Shelby Daytona coupe kit for the Z. That and a Ferrari 250 GTO were always in the ad in the back of Kit Car magazines.
  20. But.... A Z car can't be a Riceboy Ride...... ....It's only got 3 doors and rear wheel drive.
  21. There was another Arizona company that used the Fiero as a base for a Ferrari 308 replica kit. It was called the "Mera". I think Ferrari sued them out of business about 10 yrs. ago.
  22. Also check the hose and fittings. On many aftermarket cyls. (and the datsun stock part) There are 2 holes in the Slave Cyl., both with the same thread. The bleeder must be in the top (air rises in a liquid)holes and the pressure line must be in the bottom hole. Rambling digression follows: That's why we put a rear caliper marked "right" on the left side of the car if they change from behind the axle to front of the axle - to keep the bleeder pointing up^^.
  23. Here's what I found with a quick search on RX-7 Gear Ratios: RX-7 12A '79-'85 3.909 RX-7 12A '84 3.933 part year GSL-SE '84 4.077 thru 11/83 GSL-SE '84-5 4.083 12/84 up One source says "All RX-7s with rear disc brakes have LSD" (sure makes it easy to spot one in the junk yards ) "1984-up models use larger axles, so the side gears in the differential are correspondingly larger-splined axles" - I wonder if either is the same size as a Datsun axle. Which then gets me thinking: would the allegedly plentiful Mazda LSDifferential possibly bolt into a R-200 case? Or just the guts (viscous? plates?)onto the Datsun gear set? Well then I see something that sizes Mazda Ring gears by size and its (AIR) only 6 1/2" (why not mm?) which is way smaller than a R-180 (7") and a R-200 (7 7/8") ring gear. Mazda RX-7 experts....jump in any time. Mark
  24. I LOOKED at 300ZX hubs just long enough to see that they have far less material in contact with the rotor (or spacer for the early car) so I didn't bother to measure and went with the 280 hubs. A really cheap source for the spacer (about 3/8" thick) is the top of the hat from a worn-out 280Z rotor. It's already machined with the 5 holes for 4 lugs and spindle
  25. IF you still have access to the van, look under the hood for a decal with the vac hose diagram. I used to have a '80 Ford E-250, and I recall that helpful goodie. Seems like every time you did anything under the hoods ( there are 2, one insdie the cab ), you'd knock something else loose.... changing spark plugs was a nightmare.... I also remember the oil dipstick was like 4 ft long..... we used to joke it was for checking the differential..
