  1. That Really sucks sorry to hear that. Are you still running the stock bottom end? I am glad that the Trans is holding up I should be starting on the project again this winter hopefully.....
  2. So how is that Transmission holding up??? I finally got some work and have some extra cash to start on my project again!! I need a Trans, cam's, and turbo....
  3. I sure hope so we have been waiting a while now for a good video!!! If things pick up at work I am ready to start on the Z again thanks to your inspiration.
  4. Glad to hear you took the advice even better to hear its already in the car!!
  5. I could have missed it somewhere in your post's but what rear end are you running?
  6. I hope that trans holds some power.... I want the Manual for the street but the auto sure would be nice at the track. decisions decisions.
  7. Sounds Awesome! I can't wait to get started on my car again soon.
  8. I really think you have a good idea going here. I see where you are going with this and I think your headed the right way. I would change the 90's to 45's gusset them still, Add a piece to the top of the L metal or possibly make it so the L is actually a C and wraps that frame, and box in the round tubing like you stated you planed on. I think with those changes it would be a lot safer and would ease your mind a little.
  9. I was hoping you would take it constructively. I think it will hold after some gussets are placed in the spots your saying. I have also been looking into just making my own and the material you used is exactly what I would be using as well. I Think your on the right track just need to gusset and then add a few more gussets just because. The more the better! I personally would try to get at least a plate across the top of the L bracket where it connects to your frame.
  10. Dont mean to be rude but that cross member doesn't look that safe. Did you look into the beta motorsports one? I am all for doing it yourself but as you said your goal is pretty high HP and that doesn't look to safe. The welds should not have been butted together on the bars, the angle pieces welding to the frame should have been up top or all the way around. and the welds don't appear to have much penetration. Again sorry if I sound rude but that really doesn't look safe.
  11. Glad to hear all of the problems are being sorted out. Cant wait to see a video of the car running well.
  12. An online motor can be a good deal and bad I got a Aristo 2JZ for cheap off of E-Bay I was a little worried at first. I tore the motor down and rebuilt it. So far I have about 700 for the lower end with all stock replacement parts and ARP studs. The head is another story as it is being built whenever I get around to starting my project again. If you plan on just putting the motor in the car I would look around and find one that you can look at and get all the paperwork on. If you can't find one make sure you get a place that will give you all the results to there testing. Depending on your goals with the car as well if your seriously not going to be pushing over 500HP I dont think it is a great choice to go for the 2JZ unless you want to be able to say you have a 2JZ. Look around at the 1JZ swaps it will reach your power goals and be a lot cheaper to get there. A USDM 6Speed swap will cost around 5,000. I am not one to talk someone out of something but I know I am already into my car a lot more than I ever planned. Just watch out for the "while I'm at it" Bug It will bite you.
  13. Looks like you have a good start on things. Car looks very clean to start a project with. Everyone on the site is very helpful looks like you are picking a great engine to swap in there. Keep up the good work!
  14. I am glad things are coming to the end and it will be running soon. I sure hope that trans holds and I can go the same route. Again cant wait to see some videos of this car.
  15. with just a quick search it looks like stock they use a MAF sensor so if I had to guess I would say they are recirculating. I would say you will have the same problems with the 2JZ unless converted to a MAP sensor and standalone.
  16. No it does not come with a BOV. It might if you got an entire front clip, but just the engine and trans will not have any of the charge pipes attached so it will not have a BOV.
  17. That gives me a push to get going again on my car. Sounds great!
  18. I will it is on the list of things for this summer. I am waiting on a decision for a trans your kind of the ginny pig I want to see hoe the upgraded R154 does with those kinds of numbers in our cars. If yours blows I will prob just go Turbo400.
  19. Did you ever get any pictures of this finished?
  20. I would also be interested. Also depending on price and quality.
  21. Are you a company performing this build or a single person? I see your also located in Reno would be cool to see how your build comes along.
  22. http://www.bpmsports.com/products/gear.htm A place I was looking into to get some straight cut gears... There is a thread on supra forums that a guy goes into full detail about what makes the R154 fail. I would link to it but search is down over there. One is the mentioned thrust washer, two is one of the shift forks( not sure what one off the top of my head), and three was the synchro's. By getting the straight cut gears it is supposed to help a ton but for some reason no one runs them this company may be no good I don't know for sure. Check with marlin crawlers people have had good luck with there R154 rebuilds.
  23. go to supraforums.com a quick search will give you plenty of reading material... In short though yes it is possible to do you need a R154 trans from a 1JZ or a R154 from a older supra plus a 1JZ bell housing.
