  1. Given the choice between a turbo and supercharger setup for the L series, I'd almost always go turbo. (I can think of one instance, slalom, when you may want a supercharger instead) Why? There are no engineered supercharger systems for the L series that I am aware of. There is 1 well engineered turbo system however, and I think the Nissan engineers had a bit more insight into the L engine than most kit builders do. It is possible to do it on the cheap... but its much easier to go crazy and spend tons more than you expect to, to get more power/make it easier.   2. Uh Davy, I think you misread that. "I'm currently undergoing a restoration and 383 buildup myself in a 77 280Z, but it was underpowered compared to the 300."   3. Heh, what does MSD chrge for the 2 step rev limiter? $100? You can duplicate it doing what pete said (parallel pills with a toggle) for about $5.   4. I'm going to be running a 77 trans, with 3.36:1 R180 until I grenade it. An R200 3.54:1 is sitting here waiting for me to get to it, which I figure will make for a nice highway cruiser.   5. Yeah Pete, Ross and I were throwing around slip-on vs. bolt-on spacers for a while. I pretty much agree with you, anything more than about 3/4" would give me the willies. If you went 5 bolt and larger than stock studs that would give you a bit more, but I don't think I'd try using the honduh wheels with a slip on spacer. I'm starting to ponder just how little traction I am going to have with my 15x6" honduh wheels, and 205/50R15's... (I could definately fit 7" wide honduh wheels with the stock spring perch & spacer.   6. BLKMGK, I've heard from many sources now, that physically orange/red is the easiest on the eyes, and allows for the fastest refocus in the dark after looking at it. That would certainly be my choice. Unfortunately I am still using the stock speedo and tach.   8. Lone, honduh wheels are 4x100mm mostly, but there are other honduh patterns out there, so be careful! But the 4x100mm is the common one. I'm using bolt on spacers. I really couldn't see how you'd get more stress on bearings etc. because as lone said, the contact patch and tire haven't moved. Plus Evan and the guy that made his have been using those spacers for years without problems.   9. Hehe, I have my calculus III final exam tomorrow. Lets talk Lagrange multipliers, triple riemann sums, spherical coordinates, gradient vectors... I'm ready baby! Hehe. I like math too pete, I've always had a knack for it from my early days of addition and multiplication.   10. Cool project, I wish I was set up to weld aluminum! (I'm going to invest in a nice TIG one day... once you use it and have it around you just can't live without it!!!) Tell me guys, is the air/water system as simple as is sounds? A "water box" with a heat exchanger inside of it, air going through the HTX and glycol through the "box"? And I take it you throw on a pump and A/C condenser to keep the glycol cool? What kind of volume are you looking at for the liquid side of the equation? (a block from the thrifties/riders/petro-can corner) I find that when I've been at university in the past I've spend ~8hours a day at home, and about 7 of those were sleeping.   17. Sounds pretty good Dan. Like scottie said, compare that to the Z32 NA stock that puts out 179hp. Which was a factory claimed 222hp. And you get an idea.   20. Yeah Davy, thats what I had in mind actually. I had seen a couple Z's with that done and it seems to be a good place if you ask me, as far as imaging goes. Tweeters are only 1". No problems there. I just hope I have enough speaker wire for the crossovers. Finally finished a roll of film today, and will take it in tomorrow. Maybe by tomorrow evening I'll have scanned them all and put them up on the web... lots of older pictures!   21. Well today was interior and audio day for me, since I am still waiting on the #$)$(%$ flywheel and pressure plate bolts from motorsports. I put a rush on it, and got it sent UPS air to get it here as fast as possible, and its still been 3 weeks... not here yet. Anyway, enough venting. Swapping over the orange (which was origionally tan, but turned orange in the sunlight I guess) interior panels to black. Everything but the headliner is now black, which is fine. I am going to try to dye the headliner shortly. Ended up removing the tool box covers and making up some wood ones and mounted my Cerwin Vega 5" in there, facing up. I think imaging will be decent to the front seats, despite the high back on the seats. It made for a very clean install. (had to cut a hole in the carpet too, but everything blends well and looks clean) I was thinking I'd put the tweeters up front on the top of the dash, aimed at the glass so the sound reflects forwards at the people. 10" sub and amp still haven't found a home. The sub may just go in the spare tire well along with a civic donut spare. (I'm running honda adapters) I had planned on mounting the amp behind the passanger seat vertically on the face there. (240z) Turns out its too wide to fit there well. (argh) I may have to try to get it under the passanger seat. The dash now sports mechanical oil pressure, boost, and water temp gauges. EvanPurple helped me out a bit there to get them mounted right, and they look way SWEET now. I found some autometer gauges that fit nicely with the stock black/white theme, and had a chrome bezel. The bezel looks really nice in there once I got them mounted right. Pictures will come soon. Anyway, thats the interior story for today! Tomorrow is dash re-install and wiring day. And maybe SDS install day too, and maybe engine install day if those bolts finally come.   22. Does it also include ECU/AFM etc? Who knows how this is setup... you might be in for a nightmare or it might work great, it depends how the last guy did it. See if he'll offer to install it for you too, or help you install it. HP gains.. well they should be pretty decent. If its a 280Z you have your compression ratio will be around 8.8:1 which is a bit high, but still do-able. You'd likely want to run no more than about 5-6psi without an intercooler at that compression, but even 5-6psi can give you a real kick. As for how much hp gain? Its terribly difficult to speculate, and any numbers you are given will be just that, speculation. I'd speculate you could push your 149hp stock up to around 180hp with the turbo.   23. Not out of the question. Just a lot of work. Try picking up a book on FRP and composites sometime, they'll ususally lay out everything you need for a project like that. I would also consider grabbing another book on aerodynamics at the same time however, no point in making a body kit that is like a barn door. (and yes, its easy to make one that looks like it has a low Cd, and actually has a high Cd, if you don't know what you are looking for... look at the 240Z!)   24. Mmm, yes, aftermarket support is worth considering too. I was thinking weight/power output/simplicity. The z31 engine should be a little simpler, no engine mount change, no tranny change I would think. Plus its about the lightest V6 in existence. But it depends what you want out of it. I am sure once you pass about 400hp in the z31, it would start costing more than it would to get the same HP out of a GN. Above 500HP, I have little doubt the GN is cheaper.   25. Lone I hear ya. Trust me its no better on the 280zx's either. For some reason I decided I wanted the booster and M/C from an 82turbo. Upside down on the floor trying to get at those bolts, using a 12mm deep socket, 2 extentions and a U-joint. Ended up with cuts all over my hands, and a face full of falling dust and debris. Oh yeah, then I found out the booster and M/C wouldn't even fit for what I wanted to do, so it was a waste... heh.
