  1. howd those solid motor mounts work. thats a very different design.
  2. so you left the stock valves be? assuming you did, how and where could a person get ahold of a set of oversized intake valves for this head. and would that mod be worth the cost.
  3. but no, i could not imagine how any part of the f54 p90 would be different. but the dizzy may need power hooked to it if its the newer magnet pickup. idk what the old kind is like cause my 78 came with the new one.
  4. my favorite little factoid is that after you drain the oil, to fill it up with a gallon of deisel in place of the oil(with the old oil filter). and let it run for 10 minutes. itll get all that 30 year old engine junk out and clean everything up real nice. then drain it and look how nasty colored it is. yeah, you would have left all that in there to mix with your new oil.
  5. im running the n42 combo right now. its what came with my car. in the near future i want to install one of those dandy eaton m90 superchargers into the passenger side of my engine bay. but thats not why im starting this thread. i want to know if the n42 head and block would be the best choice to start building on for some added boost. id love to get a f54 p90 combo because it was the newest and "best flowing" parts nissan made, and who could say no to that added engine efficiency with the tight quench the combo offers. but the biggest downfall i see is the low c/r these two combined offer. i would prefer not to mess with milling head, or some strange piston/rod combo that ive read about a couple times to get a higher c/r on my engine now. i know you guys are probably saying in your heads, "why the heck do you want higher compression with a supercharger. and heres my explanation. i have access to E85. when compensated to flow rates, this fuel is just as effective as the most expensive race fuel under 6 dollars a gallon. so why not shoot for 9:1 instead of the measly 7.5:1. looking into cost and technical skills, which i think im sufficent in, would it be best to get some bigger valves installed in my n42 head and a nice cam put in. maybe have the same set up done on one of those maxima n47 heads(for high comp. and better flow) or just stick with the n42 pair that i have now. or maybe find a 280zx engine somewhere in the world. theres so many options and its kidna bogglin my mind up. o, and btw i do plan on installing a megasquirt before any sort of boost touches my engine.
  6. i like that green. man you sure did alot of head work. i noticed you said something about the lashpads were shot. whats that look like

where do you get that ridiculous hatch at. i WANT one.
  8. my car had this nasty little fuse box that this 12 gauge or so wire was actually from the alternator to this box then to the battery. and the fuses were replaced by some jumper wires. and one of those wire was dirty and not allowing the alternator to charge the battery except on occasion. look for that fuse box.

those things really have circle ports...that stinks. i already have the square port header

The mn47 head as its refered to by z car owners seems very hard to find. I would love to find one of these heads and build my next engine around it. i wanna go high compression with that e85 that is so avialable around my area. does anyone have these sitting around, or is there a great place to find them.
  11. hey everybody. im sure everyone has come across this problem at least once in their life on a vehicle not even nescisarily a z. but my brakes squeel when they are applied. i just put on new rebuilt calipers from orillies and i have some generic pads that i bought at autozone. the old calipers were siezed up, when i would brake the car pulled hard right, and the rotor would not spin by itself. i figured that changing the calipers would fix my squeeling problem and it did a little bit. but its still squeeking. i just cant stand this. its nothing like the random squeeks my grand prix makes from time to time. its just a little more intense. any ideas..... could it be my booster. ? thanks everyone.
  12. i read an article where a z vet took a p90 head and had it milled 80mil then adjusted the cam towers and springs with 80mil of spacers. and put in some 76 or so years valves cause they were 80 mil longer. with this and flat tops he was only getting 10.05 to 1. how do the guys build engines that have 12-1. what kind of parts does this take.
  13. i just read that book, and realized it was written around 10 years ago. who woulda guessed!
  14. so lets assume i order one of these p90 heads refurbished from somewhere like ebay, is this reliable. or should i just find someones used one in the classafieds. ?
  15. hey dudes, just signed up for this site today. everytime i google search something for the 280z the websites' forums usually pop up so i figured i would give it a try. so heres the deal. i live in kansas and my ability to obtain e85 fuel is good. we all know, or at least i know, that this fuel when adjusted so that you use 30 percent more, has an octane rating of around 104. which is why im starting this topic. i dont really want to turbo my z, i want to make this thing a high compression street machine by milling my head down. the biggest problem i run into with this goal is that not alot of people can do high compression mods due to the lack of high octane fuels. i just went and checked and my engine is made up of the n42 head, and n42 block. lets assume the pistons are nothing more than one of the stock choices and the head has not been milled except if anyone wanted to make sure it was nice n flat for a rebuild. i just want to know how much can be taken off the head before my valve will start hitting my pistons, also assuming the cam is stock. and whats the most compression i could get this way.
