  1. that's what I thought! Well thanks. I'll fix the pics tonight since I will have a charger to use. I might just take some new ones since these were crappy anyways.
  2. Ya well I called around... Apparently, cheap tires are $400 for 4 of them mounted. So lame. I then happily proceeded to spend 4 times less and buy wheel dollies from harbor freight. They should work fine. I'e been told of the JY tires... But I don't know where any of the JY's are around here and I don't have the time to go searching really. Well the plan with rims/tires is to get a nice set of rims (not decided yet) which will probably be 14 or 15 x 8. That means a 215 will fit nicely. But I have 2 of the nice aluminum solid rims in the front which I am going to get cheapies for as a spare set for various uses, possibly including drifting at some point. What offset would be best? I was thinking 0 or a slight negative offset. Am I on the right track? haha so far. my girlfriend is definitley more picky lol. Well I'm used to my MINI so this car is simple! And I'm definitely holding off from buying parts for later... I haven't bought any parts yet. Anyways, this car is going to be awesome when its done, I can't wait! the tires are completely dead and cracked and mostly off the bead. they also lack valves. So they won't even pump up Anyways a little update for today: FINALLY got all the tar off the floor pans and tranny tube!. didn't find too many hidden rust spots, but under the front passenger seat rail, there is a huge amount of rust which was hiding from me. That spot is the worst of the rust though and shouldn't be too hard to fix. Also, I got the little side door bumpers off, really cleaned up the lines. I still need to do some body work on the fenders and doors to make it look right, but it should clean up nicely. Anyways, I'm super happy with the progress I've made. Had the car exactly one week. Huge improvement since then. Tomorrow I will start cutting out the rust spots. What gauge metal are the floor pans? I'm going to buy some sheet metal this week so I can start welding in some new floor material.
  3. haha ya I will. My laptop has photoshop and everything. But the charger broke... so I can't use it right now. I should be able to next week. Still trying to figure out a trick for getting the car into the garage... I'm contemplating pushing it in with my other car haha.
  4. Well, I got the Z bug. I picked up a '73 rolling chassis in pretty good shape for fairly cheap. I've got an L28 that I'm rebuilding, and I'm building this car up mainly for fun. I happened to pick up the car on my 18th birthday, with my own money. It's a pretty clean chassis, with only minor rust in places besides the floor pans(which luckily only need some patching). I've got huge plans for the car, here's a kind of general outline: -Fully custom interior and sound system (nothing crazy) -Nicely built NA L28 -5 speed tranny -s13 coils and plenty of suspension mods -nice rims and exterior stuff (including paint) -A whole lot of work Anyways just wanted to start my build thread. I'll have a heap of questions I'm sure... I always like this view... you can see how clean it is back here Driver's side floor pan. Has all the tar off now. garage, with the L28 sitting waiting to be pulled apart Sorry for the crappy pictures. I'll have some much better ones soon enough. Anyways as it is, I have stripped the interior and gotten all the tar off the drivers side, stil need to do the passenger side. Next I'm going to get the car into the garage (doesn't roll due to the worn out tires. Does anyone have any tricks for this? I was going to buy wheel dollies, but they cost a lot. Now I'm thinking I'll just go get some cheap tires put on these rims.). Then it's time for cutting out rust and welding in new sheet metal. Got a lot of work ahead of me... I'm excited. Anyways let me know what you think and any tips you have for me. -Austin Please Resize Images to: 1024 x 579 pixels or close. 5. Price vs. usefullness is the game for this. For 3,000 I could do a lot more and have a much better reward. Now that I have the chassis, I know I don't need the edfc, so I'm just going to get some other s13 coilovers and weld them in haha
  6. Thank you to all of you who offered. I am going to go pick up my chassis tomorrow (for my 18th birthday!), so I am no longer in need of a chassis! -Austin
  7. Hey, So I am looking for a pre-'75 roller/shell/beater. I have an L28 already so I don't need an engine. I would prefer something with minimal rust but anything will be considered. I live in North Bay (marin), and I can tow the car away. Willing to drive within reasonable distance. I'm 17 and I don't have a ton of money so I would really like to find something cheap... But anything will be considered. Maybe someone has one sitting that they need gone? I'll tow it out, as I said! Or maybe you want to give me a car for my upcoming birthday? . Anyways, contact me in the following ways about a car, I am pretty good about replying quickly -On PM here -Email to: Luseboy@gmail(dot)com -text/call(at a reasonable hour): 415-209-four441 Really looking forward to finding something, let me know what you have. -Austin
  8. hmm I must not be good at searching haha. Thanks for the link! I'm still trying to figure out if it's a "good" distributor, performance wise... I saw that the conversion kit is around $120 through per-lux. Does anyone on here use one of these? Does anyone know if they're any good? I'll keep searching around... but I haven't found answers to those questions yet!
  9. Hello, So I'm pretty new here... Been lurking for a while. Anyways, I bought an L28 off CL and it came with a distributor with no cap. I was just cleaning it up and trying to see what kind it was, and cleaned off some dust and it's got a Per-Lux Ignitor conversion to electric. I assume this was a point distributor at one point (it looks oem, has D606-52 and 9603 stamped into the side). Anyways I was wondering if anyone knows anything about there or not. I'm ultimately trying to figure out if I want to use it or get something else. Anyways I searched and couldn't find anything... Thanks, Austin
  10. good call! I guess that means it don't matter. Thank you! Well I'm in the process of cleaning my garage while I save up for a chassis. My motor is sitting on 4x4's waiting to be rebuilt too. I will start a build thread once I get a chassis at least figured out. Thank you guys for your help. I am sure you will hear from me soon enough. Btw- if anyone has a chassis that is pre '75 in the SF bay area that they are willing to let go, or if anyone knows anyone who has one, Please let me know via PM. Thank you! -Austin
  11. Hmm well I guess clearance kills it then. Well I guess I have my answer on why it was never done. I think its not worth the effort and engineering for such a novelty item. I will just go with some other type of s13 coilover. Will save some money anyways! Well thanks for the information!, I will most certainly be asking for more help soon enough. Btw, this is by far the coolest/best forum I have been on before, everyone here seems pretty awesome. I'm super excited to become a real part of this once I get my Z. Also, off topic, and I can probably find this online somewhere, but I haven't really seen it. Between a 240z and an early 260z, is there any difference besides the badging and the motor and all that? If I get a rolling chasis, would it be that much worse to get an early 260z vs a 240z? I know the earlier 240's were lighter, but they sell for a lot more too, it seems.
  12. Thanks for the replies guys! Does someone happen to know how much hood clearance there is on an s30 between the top of the strut tower and the bottom of the hood? And thanks for the heads up on that blue destiny. Hadn't really thought about that one, But I'm sure I can figure a way around it. I don't need edfc. I also don't need a Z car or a car to begin with. Hell I only need 1 kidney lol. haha its more that it would be really cool. I always wanted it for my MINI but the coilovers compatible with the mini are out-the-butt expensive and way way way too stiff for the mini. It's just another novelty thing, but since I'm building the car ground-up, I want to make it my own, and add all the little novelties I think are cool. As I understand it, most people don't use it because they set the coils up for how they like them and then just drive them. For me, I'm sure I will want to change the suspension based off of the road I'm on, how I'm driving, if anyone else is in the car, if it's raining, etc. Without popping the hood. Not that it would take much longer then, but still would be very cool! And I realize that it's just a servo on top of the coilover but I was wondering why I hadn't seen it yet, and if maybe there's something you guys know that I don't. Anyways, its just a thought I had. I think it would be really cool, and if it fits into my budget/if I can make it work, it'd be a very cool piece to have on the car
  13. Hey, So I'm currently planning out a build for a 240z or early 260 (don't have a chasis yet, but do have a nice L28). I've been thinking about suspension a lot lately. When I first started looking into suspension for the s30, I saw the s13 swap. Has anyone done this with TEIN coilovers and installed EDFC? I searched and found a guy who put in sklyline subframes with tein coils and edfc. But have yet to see someone who did it with s30 sub frame and s13 tein coils. Unless I'm missing something, it would be the same as doing any other s13 coil swap, but you'd just have to mount the edfc stuff. Is there something I'm missing? Has anyone done this or seen it done? Thanks! -Austin
  14. Just found this thread. I'm from Marin and I just bought my motor yesterday. Currently saving up for a shell to start my own project, Which will also hopefully be an early 240. Anyways, I found it cool that someone else in the bay area was building one. I will be doing the same pretty soon, just gotta pull my motor apart and get a shell and then I will start my build thread. Hey maybe when we both finish our cars, we can go for a drive! I probably have another 8 months till I will have a driveable Z. Haha I don't even have any Z right now.
  15. Im confused on why you don't just use an e-fan setup. They're relatively inexpensive, and if you went with pushers, you would have tons of clearance... Personally, I plan on doing two 10" pushers in my z (if they fit), when I get it. But I don't have my z yet, so I don't know what kind of room there is in front of the rad.
