  1. This has been moved to Indianapolis, IN for taping June 15-June 19 and the first show will be aired the first Sunday in July. Being so close to Bristol would have been nice, but will definately need some help to be able to travel for the taping. If I get any more info, I'll pass it on.
  2. As of right now they are looking at re-scheduleing or going to another drag strip? As soon as I find out anything I will let everybody know. Jon
  3. The NHRA race in Bristol, Tennessee is canceled this weekend (May 18,19 and 20th) due to the concrete breaking up, and has been re-scheduled for July 6,7 and 8th. As of right now the "King of The Strip" race we were suposed to run in at Bristol on May 22,23,24,and 25th is on hold. (Looking at re-scheduleing or running at another track). Year One and ORSCA is racing in Commerce, GA this weekend (Atlanta Dragway). If anyone is interested in going here are the rules for the classes. Feel free to call me if you have any questions about any of this. We've ran with Year One last year in the Open Class ("big tire" car) and had a blast. Commerce is usually a really good track, too. Year One Street Legal Classes Summary All races are ¼-mile Classes: 13.0 Index – cannot run quicker than 13.0; .500 sportsman tree 12.0 Index – cannot run quicker than 12.0; .500 sportsman tree 11.0 Index – cannot run quicker than 11.0; .500 sportsman tree 10.0 Index – cannot run quicker than 10.0; .500 sportsman tree Open – no performance limitations; .400 pro tree YearOne Street Legal Rules: Index class races are heads up on a sportsman tree (.500), Open class races are heads up on a pro tree (.400). Cars entered in the Index classes cannot run quicker than the index or they will break out and be disqualified. There is no index in the Open class. All cars must meet NHRA rules for their performance levels. All cars must pass an NHRA tech inspection and a YearOne Street Legal inspection. All cars must be street legal with the following: o Current license plate and registration (for the vehicle being raced) o Proof of car insurance o Working headlights, taillights, turn signals and horn o D.O.T. All the excitement of the YearOne Experience will be covered by the biggest names in the print and electronic enthusiast media. Every major magazine in the business will be represented, and a number of television shows will be on site taping shows. The YearOne Experience will certainly be a unique event. With an unprecedented variety of activities for the entire family, two professional-level race tracks and massive amounts of media coverage, this will be the one event on the 2007 calendar no enthusiast will want to miss. OR........... ORSCA is also running some classes there (they are teamed up with Year One) and you can find all that info on their website at www.outlawracing.com.
  4. We haven't seen the full contract as of yet, and couldn't discuss it if we had, but from reading the information on their website (the info posted above in the first post) if the winner takes the "mystery certificate'' ( $$$ hopefully, money $$$ ) you are out of the race and they pull out another car to run the loser or the losers car goes to impound and they pull out 2 new cars to race. Jon
  5. [quote) How are the cars chosen..All a certain time bracket ? They have picked cars from all over the United States. They asked for 14.00 to 8.00 1/4 mile full body cars. But you are not going to get kicked out if you run faster, you will just have to give up more spots on the tree. Jon
  6. (Quote: I guess that's not all the information and you probably have more, but I'd like to see some liability or big money cash prize on their part. To me, reality TV cashes in on other people's misery or happiness without giving them anything in return.) Davy, The final twist is in the last episode the last racer standing will be given the ultimate choice of keeping all the cars he’s won, or taking what’s inside a race trailer " NET WORTH OVER $$$ 100,000.00 $$$. It's going to be a big gamble and take a lot of luck and skill, but someone is going to win it. So... we are going to give it a 125 % and go for it. Thanks, Jon 1 QUICK Z P.S. And yes I know...my wife's already told me....I'M CRAZY FOR DOING THIS. HA! HA! HA! HA!
  7. As of right now the hood, doors, front fenders, rear quarters and some window space are open. This will be great exposure on ESPN 2 for business and a tax right off. We know we will be on at least 1 episode and if we have the LUCK and SKILL to "Play the GAME and WIN it ALL" we'll be in 13 episodes. Give me a call 1-423-735-7223 (Phillips Peformance) or 1-423-388-0016 (Cell). Thanks, Jon Phillips 1 QUICK Z
  8. Hey Guys and Gals, We received a phone call yesterday telling us that we got picked to be on the show "The KING of THE STRIP." We will be taking our "Little Tire 260 Z" that we won on "PINKS" with. The show will be taped May 22,23,24 and 25 at our local track (Bristol Dragway) after the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals. They will be taping 3 episodes a day. If you win you move on to the next race. Participants will be chosen for each episode on a random drawing basis. If we got picked first we would have to win 13 separate races.... 3 out of 5 to win it all. This will be very hard to do but we are going to give it a 125%. If anyone wants to come up and be part of our crew just let me know. Also, I am Looking for sponsors to put on the car. This will be aired on ESPN 2 starting in July 2007. If anyone is interested please give me a call 1-423-735-7223 (Phillips Peformance) or 1-423-388-0016 (Cell). Thanks, Jon Phillips 1 QUICK Z 2007 Television Programming: ESPN2 Garage Competition Show: “King Of The Strip ” Taking its cue from the latest trends in television, Masters Entertainment will showcase drag racing at its grassroots, hardcore best. Part game show, part reality show, 13 amateur ‘hot shoes’ will compete against each other for the title “King of the Strip” (or Queen as the case may be), to be awarded at the end of the show’s season. But there’s a lot more at stake than just pride; each racer must be willing to give up his or her car to the winner if they lose, while the winner has the opportunity of advancing to the next episode and the next competitor -- but he’ll be handicapped in the first race. Will he have the guts to carry on, or fold and take his winnings home? This and other curve balls thrown at the competitors throughout the show’s run will keep the suspense tight, the action intense. The hosts of the show are Melanie Troxel (NHRA Top Fuel driver) and her husband Tommy Johnson, Jr., (NHRA Funny Car driver). Troxel and Johnson will negotiate and referee the trials and tribulations of each of the competitors, likewise chosen for their personas via auditions. A thumbnail sketch of each car and driver will be presented graphically throughout the series run, as well as formal and ‘confessional-style’ interviews. The show will be taped at the legendary Thunder Valley Dragway in Bristol, TN, home of the NHRA O’Reilly Thunder Valley Nationals. Each episode will feature last week’s champ facing a new challenger drawn at random. The drag racers will utilize the track’s timing system, not a flagman; best three out of five races winner takes all. For example: if the champ loses to the challenger, the challenger gets to keep all the previous cars won, and so on, until someone has accumulated most of the cars. Each of the losers’ cars will be kept in a special impound lot at the racetrack, where they’ll be locked-up until the final episode, unless… …A winner happens to break his car. Then he can choose to run a new car from those he’s already won, thus creating a potential alliance with this car’s former owner. If the winner succeeds with the new car, the former owner might get his car back at the end of the series. If the winner doesn’t win, or breaks the new car, too bad. Other scenarios include: former owners lobbying the winner to pick their car; winners breaking their promise once they get to the end; former owners refusing to help or deciding to help beat another competitor they can’t stand -- greatly increased potential for interpersonal conflicts. At the end of each episode a different sponsor will bring in an envelope containing a mystery certificate to help tempt the winner to fold and go home. Once the next challenger is drawn, the champ is given this option, with the understanding that if he chooses to go on to the next episode, he’ll be handicapped by two lights in one of the five races. But here’s the final twist: in the last episode the last racer standing will be given the ultimate choice of keeping all the cars he’s won, or taking what’s inside a race trailer. So what does it really take to be King of the Strip? Stay tuned and find out. King of the Strip will be produced in May and the series will be a part of the ESPN2 Garage block in July, 2007. 9. Adrian, The contract was pages and pages long....but, no one was disqualified because as I stated it was 10.50 on MOTOR. There were no specifications as to how fast you could run with nitrous, how many stages of nitrous you could have, etc. The first race was the ONLY race we ran with NITROUS so it didn't matter if we were faster than the 10.50 stated in the contract (THAT WAS ON MOTOR ONLY). Believe me, we really read the contract, had other people read the contract and even called for clarification on what we read. That doesn't mean that each taping they specify 10.50 cars ON MOTOR....the contracts can change depending on the racers chosen for that show. I hope this answers your questions, but if not and you want to talk to me...feel free to call me at 423-735-RACE (shop) or 423-388-0016 (cell).
  10. Davy, Your welcome, It was the least we could do. You and all the guys that helped us out to go to SEZ 8 recieved a signed T shirt. Let me know if I can help you out in any way. Thanks, Jon Phillips 1 QUICK Z

  12. Ok Guys and Gals, Here is a link to a slide show > http://videos.streetfire.net/video/08aa026f-f59c-4411-a790-990700d332f0.htm that we made to vew at our PINKS Party. The slide show is 26 min long but right now all I can down load is 15 min of it. When we get the rest of it loaded I will post it up. The music goes along with what we went through. Thanks Jon 1 QUICK Z
  13. No I don't think so. When I got the car home and checked everything out I found out the studs were turning on the back side and I had to hold the stud bolts on the back side with a wrench to tighten up the lug nuts. Jon
  14. We ran 9.57 at 145.60 mph at SEZ 8 on the 2nd nitrous pass and the track was hot and slick. I think whin I get it fine tuned and on a good track it wil go in the 9.40's at 146 to 148 mph on the 200 hp plate system. I hope to put it in the 8.80 to 8.90's 1/4 mile with the nozzle system this spring. Thanks Jon
  15. BBZ, They are 8'' wide with a 3.5 back spacing and i run a 27x10.5x15 Hoosier D.O.T. tire under it. I had to grind on the bottom of the spring purch about 1/4'' and every thing clears fine. If you have any questions, give me a call 1-423-735-RACE Shop or 1-423-388-0016 Cell Thanks, Jon 1 QUICK Z
  16. Thanks Steve, With all the help you and the other guys on the fourm gave us to get to SEZ 8 it was the least I could do. I will help anyone that I can with there car set ups, motors, nitrous systems and tune on them to try to go FASTER to acheive there goals. No one knows everything about cars, thats why we learn off each other experiences. I think if we install the little box on your car that I showed you at SEZ 8, we can harness that power that you have and put it to the ground and get you in the 10's in the 1/4 mile:burnout: . Give me a call if I can help you out (1-423-735-RACE ) Phillips Performance Shop or (1-423-388-0016 ) Cell Thanks, Jon Phillips 1 QUICK Z Phillips Performance
  17. Link to the show: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odx4WPzjpVs Okay guys, so here is the scoop on what happened....If you weren't there you don't know what really happened. When these shows go to the chopping block...nobody knows how they'll end up. We went there as the 1 QUICK Z team. We wanted to be as professional as we could and look as good as we could whether we won or lost. We knew we had a chance of loosing, but was prepared to eat humble pie. We tested two weekends in a row vigorously to get all the bugs ironed out before going. We weren't paired with another car until we arrived in Richmond for the taping. First of all when we agreed to run on Pinks- our contract was to bring a car no faster then 10.50 et (quarter mile) on motor. We got to Richmond, each competitor had to make a test pass to make sure we didn't run faster than 10.50 on motor. I went out and made an all out 1/4 mile test pass with a 10.85 et at 125.26 mph. The Falcon ran a 10.61 et at only 106 mph, letting out way early as the mph tells you, if you know anything about drag racing. For our first negotiation on our first run, we knew he was faster than we were on motor that is why we opted for nitrous and gave him four car lengths and had him unplug his nitrous. We only ran the 200 hp plate sytem on that run and ran all the way down the track until we caught him and ran the rest of the way on motor and beat him by 3 1/2 car lengths. On the second run, we got pushed into motor to motor only. We wanted car lengths because we knew he was faster than we were but Rich pushed us into motor to motor and no car lengths. Shean was faster than us and should have beat us on this run. Shean's car has a transbrake and launched real hard. We were footbraking on motor and nitrous. The car does not respond as well as one with a transbrake. Shean got me off the line on and we were running him down on the big end and were catching him but he let off right at the finish line and we beat him by six inches (Shean said he let out because he thought he was running faster than 10.50 and in our contract it stated that they would monitor our et's throughout the race and if we ran faster than 10.50 on motor they would take our car and award it to the other team). On the third pass, Shean wanted two car lengths after we just beat him by six inches with him letting out. Rich again pushed us into giving him 1 1/2 car lengths and going motor to motor or he would award the pass to Shean and we would go to the fourth race. When I go to race...I give it everything I have. I don't BS, and I don't hold anything back! We didn't want to lose our car either! Sometime between the second and third race, one stage of Shean's nitrous system was hooked back up. With his back against the wall, he hit the nitrous on the third pass (and didn't have any fuel hooked up) and nipped a plug allowing us to beat him by 1 1/2 lengths; tha't how it was three and out. Barney should have beat us the second and third run, but he was trying to play games and it backfired on him. We went there to run all out , race an honest race and we came out a winner for it. After the third run, the guys walked around the car before me taking the "victory lap" and found three of the four lug nuts on the right front wheel about to fall off. Suppose we had gone into the fourth race...I might not be here! He could have wrecked...coming into my lane and wrecking me too! Read the following "trouble" list. "Barney" wasn't performing as he should because when we brought the car home we worked on it for five days trying to get it back in race shape. Here are the problems we found: The timing on motor was set on 50 degrees instead of 32 degrees...that is why he didn't have any top end charge. The shutter wheel on the Mallory distributor was also loose making the timing vary. Right rear shock was broke on the car letting the tire rub in the fender well. When we unloaded if off of the trailer and drove it half a block from the shop and turned the car around the right front heim joint on the A-arm broke allowing the wheel to fold up under the car. Three bolts in the flywheel were almost out. And various other problems, etc. etc. There was no such thing as tech in Richmond, as they didn't even want to know how fast your car would run. Anyway, after we worked on the car and went to the track it ran a 10.33 at 131 mph in 1/4 mile at Bristol -it would have been faster than this at Richmond, VA. This is what happened. If anybody has any questions, give me a call. 1-423-735-RACE @ Phillips Performance Shop or 1-423-388-0016 on my cell. Thanks, Regina and Jon Phillips 1 QUICK Z
  18. Thanks, We ran the plate system ( 200 hp ) on the first pass right off the line and all the way down track until I caught up with him and ran the rest of the way on motor and beat him 3.5 cars. We are running a Corvette center section with 3.70 gears and 27x10.5x15 D.O.T Hooiser Tires. If you have any questions that I can help you out with, give me a call 1-423-735-RACE (Phillips Performance) or 1-423-388-0016 Cell. Thanks, Jon 1 QUICK Z
