  1. doesnt sound like you wanna be bothered with it anymore. all datsuns are great cars and i think mostly they are fun cars when you drive them. but they are for sure for someone who is ok with the lack of modern conveniences and ok with needing to keep up with the maintenance of the occasional leak or rattle. you may have been that guy before (assuming so since you do own one now)but doesnt sound like you are now. which is completely ok. its so easy now to get something with good power and yet comfortable and warrantied. so i think its time for you to sell to someone who wants the fun headaches that come with a Z.

  2. nothing wrong with lil upgrades here and there. as my dad said when i got mine from him was have fun with it. i will never sell mine either so who cares what book value is. he actually talked me into the first v8 swap. i was keeping it original out of respect to my grandpa...get that resto done so you can make sure to pass it down, thats what its all about sometimes, and nothing more satisfying then doing it your self

    good luck with it!!

    83 turbo

Father bought it off the showroom floor. I've owned it for 20 years currently undergoing restoration by my own hand

very cool!! my grandfather bought mine one year old and been in the family ever since also. very good to have a un modified turbo car. i would say to keep it that way. i did the LS swap but mine was a N/A car. original turbo cars are getting hard to find. im sure you have no plan to sell it but if you ever did, a stock turbo car is gonna be the most valuable. anyway, enjoy whatever you do with it.

  4. silvermine motors just put an add up for a set of 300zxt cv joints. i actually just found that rock auto sells new ones. i ordered them, they were cheap too. ill let you know if they are right. sometimes those things are too good to be true. ill probably get non turbo ones even though it says they r for turbo cars.

  5. nice color! i agree with trackzpeed, my ls swap is 400whp and any more and im just spinning. but more power to you if thats what you want. if your boosting it pretty good i hear all kind of good things about the iron 5.3. if you want to mantain the great weight balance then go with the alum 6.0. also on a budget, the 5.3 iron is alot cheaper. but if you can afford it i say the 6.0. goodluck!!! they are a fun car to drive with LS motors.

  6. i would go with 280zxt as the next step up. 300zxt cv joints seem to be getting harder to find. i ran 280zxt ones for a while with no issues but when i had custom stubaxles made (cause i was snapping them) i figured it was a good time to switch to 300zxt cv joints. 300zxt are suposed to be a lil stronger but the 280zxt ones held up fine for me. im having a hard time finding a back up set of 300zxt cv joints. 280zxt ones are slightly easier to find and will hold up to good hp. i know i have a set of 280zxt cv joints that just need rubber boots and the mating companion flanges if you like?

  7. Looks great so long as you never try to load it on a trailer or go over a bump on the street, or jump curbing at the track, or take out a cone.

i can tell you speak from experience :)..... most wouldn't think of those things unless you have been there/done that.

  8. i just ran into an issue where i needed a headlight switch and i noticed that the plugs were different from 79-80 to 81-83. so you may run into issues like that also. i would stay 79-80 if you can. good luck

  9. i think basically, no one has done this. you wont need much help here cause your going to end up with a datsun shell with everything else from a different car.

is it impossible? no. is it alot of work? hell yeah. we dont know your capabilities and money supply. your gonna need alot of both. if all that is in place than have at it! i wish you good luck. if you manage to get it done, post pics please. prove everyone wrong.

  10. so sorry what happened. i give you credit for putting so much work into something and doing something that you know could put it all to an end. glad your ok! i can barely run mine on a paved road coarse. i would never have the courage to run on the side of a freakin mountain full speed!!! props to you, hope you get another one built soon. i run a s130 so there aint no parts of mine your gonna want, not many run them.

  11. im going to paint my 83 zx with t-tops. the last time i did it 10yrs ago i knew that when i took the weather stripping off a second time that i may have no choice but to replace them. the weather stripping that attaches to the body and runs from the doors all around the t-tops is not available, new or used (that i have found). was wondering if anyone has came up with a solution for this? maybe universal something? its a pretty unique piece. i hope there is someone that has figured this out, i obviously cant just throw the car away cause i cant find weather stripping. thanks for any help.

  12. that would get you more travel, you will just start running into camber and toe-in issues. as the car squats it pulls the tire forward in the wheel well and cambers in real bad and toes-in as well. if your going for that "stance" look then your ok but for performance our 280zx's are just not made for too much lowering. also the half shafts hit the bottom of the car eventually. everything i have stated can be fixed with alot of work though. you could make clearence for the half shafts but the hardest mod i havnt came up with an easy solution for yet is raising the mounting point of the control arms so it thinks the lowered height is the stock ride height, and while your there move the mounting point rearward so the wheel is in the center of the wheel well. please do fix all this so i can do what you did :)

  13. im very happy with my setup. no major trimming or mods, or no fender flares.to get a 17in rim, 4 lug with 0-offset is pretty hard. i had mine custom made by Boze wheels. you can go that route, or you could do a 16 in rim with a 50 series side wall (there is some options for 16in rims) or i have seen there is now a 5 lug conversion for s130 (more options for 5 lug 0-offset rims) from techno toy tuning or arizona z car i think has it. if your doing the whole Ls swap i would get stronger stub axles from modern motorsport with the 5 lug. all depends on how crazy you wanna get. a small block chevy is the easiest swap. it will be great at the drag strip but not too great for roadcoarse stuff. if you wanna do the Ls swap, its alot of work but there is a thread i started in the V8,Genlll & lv  section called 280zx's with Ls swaps. that"ll give you an idea on what to do. PM me any other specific questions if you like on the swap.

  14. i run 17x7 with 225/45/17 and 17x8 with 235/45/17, 0-offset on both. i have 400whp and the rear likes to squat so i actually had to trim the front of the wheel well cause the tire pulls fwd as it squats. i have plenty of traction with only 235"s on the rear. and i like having a 45 side wall cause it gives the tire a lil flex for launching, instead of a real lo profile tire that wont give good traction for taking off. i hear and see of people doing wider rims and tires but i dont know how they are not rubbing when hitting bumps or when the suspension travels alot.
