    header for zz4

Does anyone know if one of the major header manufacturers makes block hugger headers to fit the GM vortec heads and or the angle plug heads on the zz4 crate motor? Thanks
  2. Had the same concerns with my 78Z and those eye sores had to go IMO. The front bumper was an easy swap out with the MSA fiberglass unit. The back was a lot more work because the mounts on the rear qtr are in a different location. If you do this swap forget about buying the 240 brackets as MSA recommends, you can't use them. You will have to make your own for the front and rear which is not hard. I tried to add a couple of pic's so you could see the fitting process but I couldn't figure out the "how to" part of attaching the pic's.
  3. About 5 years ago I had the same issue, painted header, stainless steel or ceramic coated. After talking to a number of people I went with taking the new header to a shop that specialized in the ceramic coating process. $90 & 5 days later I got it back and they buffed it out to a OK shine which has not dulled. No chips or rust and is way I would for looks, durability and heat transfer IMO.
  4. Great looking setup. Got a couple of questions. 1) is this a prepackaged kit you can purchase or do you have to fabricate brackets & spacers? 2) if it's a package one can buy off the shelf how much is it? 3) where can it be ordered from? 4) most importantly how does it work on the street? any other mods needed to keep balance in the brake system? 5) what size wheels are needed to get proper fit/ thanks
  5. I'm installing a urathane air dam and have 2 concerns: 1) it heavy and flexs more than I thought it would 2) will paint stick to it or just crack & peel if it gets flexed? anyone have experience with these parts and painting them? Thanks
  6. Regrets: 1) do the research before you start 2) plan the project & work the project plan 3) cheap parts = cheap parts and work to do over at some point. 1/3 of my project $$$ has been spent on a car with a good body and a dead motor & rear end and jobs done more than once. After swaping engines (2 times), trans (2 times) & rearends (4 times) and many hours to put the car back to stock just find out it doesn't have the performance I was looking for. If I had done 1,2 & 3 from above my Z would have a V8 in it now for the $$$ already spent trying to find HP in the 6. Hard lesson learned!
  7. Has anyone used the motorsports 3 piece spoiler Part # 50-1571 ??? How was the installation process? Do you have any pictures and has this caused the exhaust gas to swirl at the drivers window?

    RPM at 70 MPH

Thanks for the the feed back Greimann: My plan is to use a GM 350 crate motor with 10:1 compression, 355 HP, 405 torque, weight of 78 Z coupe @ 3200 lbs, T5 trans, 225/50/16 tire/wheel size I have an open R200 with a 3:90 ratio that is in need of a rebuild. With my plans for the above engine trans combination I only want to build 1 rearend. At the cost of a limited slip from MSA at $780, plus ring & pinion at @$450, add another $200 for bearings & seals and then labor to get is assembled: this is money I want to spend once. Knowing what the RPM at highway speed will be will help me pick the correct combination. If you could run numbers for 3:54, 3:70, 3:90 & 4:11 and let me know what you get that would be great. Thanks
  9. I trying to pick the right combination of parts at the start of my project to minimize my "redos". A hard lesson learned searching for HP in the 6. Can anyone tell me what their RPM is at 70 mph running a carberated 350 300-350hp and a 5 speed out a camaro? I'm tring to match the trans/rear gear for life on the road and strong off the line properties. I know there is a program to project the RPM but I want real life confirmation and your comments on drivability. 3.54 3.70 3.90 4.11 Is anyone who has run the above combinations with different rear end ratios? Thanks
  10. Thanks for the input on the kits. Has anyone done a side by side installation comparison and then been able to drive both with similar engine/trans/rearend equipment? Any pros or cons to either kit? From all I read so far once you start down the path with either the JTR or MSA kit you need to stay course, at least for that part of the project. Hey to Georgia Flash 75V8 - I live in Winder...N on 85.
  11. I have read a lot about the JTR V8 installations on this message board and have ordered their manual (which is on back order). Has anyone used the Motorsport Auto V8 mounts and driveshaft? How do these parts compare with the JTR parts and installation process? Is the motor located in the same setback and which kit provides for the easiest installation and best performance? I'm in the planning/sourcing stage of a V8 conversion in my 78Z. $$$ permitting I will run a ZZ4 HO 350 crate motor, T56 and 3.70 posi. Is anyone running this combination? Thanks
