Datsun Stroker build rich280zxt work log.
rich280zxt posted a topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
Think I have enough progress to start a thread on my build, because if you're like me you like to look at pictures of Z's getting restored. But first an introduction.. I bought my 75 280z in TN. The car had been repainted and was cracking everywhere, even had about 20 pounds of bondo smeared all over the rear quater panels. The side markers were removed and sheet metal was welded in place and looked like garbage. The owner before me began stripping the paint and gave up on it, so I picked it up for cheap and had it transported to Jacksonville. Car was completely bone stock, and has very little rust that I have been able to find up until this point. Plans: Pick-up the stroker motor I bought in AL. this week (hopefully) Built by Seattle Racing Z. Its a 3.0 liter stroker motor, diesel maxima crank, cam in it- and don't know a whole lot about it but I'll get all the specs when I pick it up. Going to purchase ArizonaZcar coilovers and camber plates in the near future. 280zForce's Monster Flares, Rota 17x19.5 in the rear, 17x9 in the front rims. Ported and polished intake manifold, pallnet fuel rail, some kind of injectors (suggestions?) And whatever else I can afford, but those are my goals so far. Here are some shots of the car, the way it looked when I first bought it. -
Alright haha, because I just bought a 280z with the same wheels on it, thought I hit the jackpot. Guess not

What are these wheels seriously worth? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/vintage-western-wheels-fits-Datsun-240z-280z-and-others_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ140747QQihZ012QQitemZ220226888600QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

Hey guys, I'm trying to get a good quote on having a Datsun 280z transported from Cleveland TN. to Jacksonville FL. The car is non-running but is a rolling chasis. Anybody know someone willing to do it for around 300? Thanks in advance!

So heres what I cam up with... But I don't have the actual measurements.
-
Hey guys, I want to get the BRE style Datsun racing stripes painted on my 240. I want to know if anyone has a template of just the stripes, including the word datsun, to use. I was thinking if someone could just get me the measurements from the bottom of the inside fender to the first stripe, the width of the two stripes, and then a measurement from where the headlight cone starts to the end of the first stripe.

40 mm DRLA & IDF Velocity stacks, fit weber 40 DCOE??
rich280zxt replied to rich280zxt's topic in Miscellaneous Tech
yea they do, but I don't think its neccessary, as long as the holes match up, they should be fine, which is my question, I'll send them an email asking for a measurement. -

They are IDF's though, isn't there a difference? -
Yea I fixed that problem. Check your floats in the carb bowls. Mine were shot, got those replaced and set to the right level, also make sure your chokes aren't hung open.
-
Anyone live close to Jacksonville, or near enough to come help me tune these carbs? I can't figure out why it won't run on all six cylinders consistently. I've got money and lots of time, I just can't figure it out.

Deep Dish Swastikas?
rich280zxt replied to rich280zxt's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
oh haha, I swore I read somewhere that they were. Nevermind then! -
I cleaned all the jets today, and found out that one of the float needle valves was sticking so I took all that apart and cleaned it. The car idles around 2500 rpm. One of the Sync screws is missing, could that be the cause to idling so high? I adjusted the mixture screws somewhat to try and get the idle to come down but that didn't help. However, I was able to drive the car, so that made my night. When I was driving it, it ran okay unless I pushed the pedal too far, then it felt like it was running on 4 cylinders. Is there anything else I should look at? Other than it idling too high and not getting full throttle response it sounded amazing. I was extremely satisfied with the acceleration, seems to be twice as fast. All the vibrations are gone. Its funny because when I'm not driving it the exhaust sounds like its perfectly tuned. It doesn't smell like its running rich. How many turns (about) should the idle screws be turned?
-
This is probably a stupid question, but I'm stupid with wheels so i'll ask. Can two piece wheels be taken apart? I was wondering if there was a way to make deep dish swastikas, without costing a fortune.

okay, I'm pulling the manifold and doing a thorough cleaning today. Thanks for the help, I'll let you know what happens.

When I got the carbs, I pulled the covers off and cleaned the insides, the floats, needs vlaves and everything. I'm thinking its the height of the floats needs to be adjusted. Where can I get an air flow sync tool locally, any idea? Thanks

Hey guys, I bought a set of triple webers 40 DCOE for my L28 240z. I started two days ago with a perfectly running set of Hitachi carbs, unbolted them and installed the webers. They were used and the person I bought them from couldn't tell me the last time they were ran, but they looked super clean. All the gaskets appear new. Yesterday I was able to get the car running, but I had to modify the pedal, throttle linkage was too long, so I wasn't able to drive it until today. Well after I fixed the pedal I tried starting it, and it turns over but won't stay running. I'm 95% sure its a fuel issue. I know I'm getting fuel but what would cause it not to run the very next day? I sprayed starter fluid into the air horns to try and help it run but as soon as the fluid burned off it would stall on me. I adjusted the rich-lean settings all the way down and then off 2.5 turns and the sync three turns. Also, yesterday when the car was running the whole motor shook really bad, had alot of vibrations, what would cause that? Even the muffler vibrated horribly. What should I check? Could the floats not set high enough cause it to do this?

Just make sure you make a video of it when you do it. I live to watch videos of Datsuns haha

What size cam do you think would be good for my 240z? I'm running an L28 with 40DCOE Webers, MSA 6-1 headers, 2.5" exhaust. I want a mild, streetable cam.

Sorry! Thank you everyone for your help.

OKAY!! I fixed it =] this picture shows it perfectly the two orange wires are the ones I was having trouble with. One connects to the solenoid, the other to a prong. There's two, I think one is for the alternator, I broke the other one. So I just opened the clip for the alternator and crimped the two wires and pushed it back onto the prong and it cranks, and starts up now. Thanks everyone for your help. Sorry I'm such a newb =X
-
I just tried that, it didn't work =[ I'm almost positive that wire runs to the ignition in the car.
-
Sorry if this is in the wrong section, but I need to get my car moved. I have a 1973 Datsun 240z with an L28 N/A I accidentally broke a prong off my starter motor. I dont really know how to describe it. The thick battery cable (+) runs from the post to the solenoid. Connected to that same solenoid is a medium, white wire that runs into the harness. The harness has a black wire coming from it. Thats the one that has a 'quick-connect' that I believe went to a prong somewhere on the starter. I can't figure out where it goes. The lights come on in the car, but when I hit the starter it doesn't click, and nothing happens.
-
Alright, the wires connecting my starter motor are extremely fragile, and I accidentally broke one of the prongs off. Question is i can't remember where the wire hooks up. A. There is a wire connected here. B. There is a wire connected to this prong. Somewhere there was another prong that a wire connects to? Anyone have any idea. I realize this is all very broad =[

I think they are ultra lite or something, but I dont know the exact name? What do you think they're worth?
