I recently painted a 260z with 2 quarts of base and just a bit more than 2.5 quarts of clear. Add that to about 4 oz of each for the jams. I had bought a sprayable gallon of base, enough to paint 2 cars. A gallon of clear. I wanted plenty, so if anything went wrong, I had its coating covered. Stuff happens. Different paints cover differently. What may take 2 coats in one brand, may take 3-4 in another, or varies by color. I was using a ppg base and dcu2021 clear. The choice was to have a flat paint surface. The kind of paint where you see detailed reflections. I didnt rush anything so I had time for a quality job. I have a receipt of all the supplies. With wanted leftovers it was around a thousand dollars in materials alone. Ultra fine finish sanding to 3000 grit, buffing, touch ups. Easily a 4-5k dollar finished product. You can read the next thread over on how to spray paint your car for 19 bucks. Someone out there thinks its kewl too. Its all in what you want to create. Im not rich either, just a working man. Was it worth it to me to do that kind of paint on my car? Hell yeah. Peoples reactions are entertaining. Forget all the guys walking up smiling. Its the chicks reactions I live for. The day I finished putting on the chrome and emblems- A cute asian girl came around a corner, and she was hypnotised by my car and almost ran into me at a doorway. Later that night, I swing by a place to get a hot coffee, and the woman at this place is telling me she gets off in 30 minutes and talking a lot. Its a paintjob that looks like money, but it really was a little money and a LOAD of work on an already beautiful car. Manual labor folks. You get back what you put in. Maybe my experience will help others... and their sex lives.
