  1. I think this is what you had in mind to begin with. http://www.totalcontrolproducts.com/vehicles/tcpracecar/modifications.html
  2. That sounds like a very good idea to me. Im almost ready to cut a fender thinking about it.
  3. What type of paint did you use?
  4. In that case you will have to make a spot. Placed nearest to the tank is best.
  5. Making them out of fiberglass wouldnt be too hard. I dont care for fiberglass much. I have to repair it at my job a lot. 135 a piece for metal flares that fit my car would be nice. Having done some fabrication today already... that price doesnt seem too bad. I would imagine it would be difficult and time consuming to make metal ones from scratch. The donor material is a good idea. I just dont know what to cut it off of. Tom Wyatt here used to use metal fender flares on his turbo 510s. He is no longer with but maybe someone around here can remember. I will ask a couple older fellas and see what they say. I have a gut feeling there are some universal type metal flares that you can work. - Maybe someone will happen by and help locate some.- Pantera style. Z force productions makes a fiberglass pantera style hatch. 12-13 lbs. Cuts down the temp at summer too. Have you looked at places like summit or nopi for metal flares?
  6. Since we dont know what year his car is, Im going to assume its a 73. 73-74 had both mechanical and electric fuel pumps. Wiring in an electric pump incorrectly can be dangerous.
  7. Yes. I know a guy who has rolled metal flares made. They run 135 each. Way better than fiberglass. As for a widebody, usually its an entire rear quarter overlay and you cut out the rear quarter underneath. Front wide fenders replace the stock fenders. Without looking at vintage racecars it was difficult to find a wide body 280zx. Years ago when I searched, finally found a guy that used a wide body kit for the early 300zx and modified it to fit the 280zx. My opinion, it wasnt that great. In my eyes the car should be sleak. It didnt look as good as a widebody s30. Flares may be a different story. They may look good if filled up with wider tires.
  8. AFM on the 83 turbo was tested and it failed

  9. You can add an electric pump. On a 73 there is a spot for it by the fuel tank.
  10. Thanks for posting. A ton of people will want to see pictures. I like how it looks with the flares. It has a total package look. It looks well thought out. So what is the view in the rearview mirror, and looking out the back?
  11. You extend the life of the valve by moving the selector to the cold position when not in use. Good luck with finding a nos one. If you want look at zcar.com. Click on the heater valve link in Palladins signature.
  12. General misunderstanding. To like a color combo varies between people. I welcome all opinions on things I do. Its interesting to me. In the end it matters what I think, so that it what guides my decisions. I have learned a great deal off of critiques of my work. A propper critique goes as follows- Say something you like and why. If there is something you dislike or would do different, say so and why. Then your thoughts are a valuable tool. As for my critique, I say that job was well planned, and the commitment to doing a quality job great. It is inspiring, as mentioned. We see a father and son team here accomplishing a dream. In what ever color a build like that is, its great. I like it.
  13. You are doing good work. The end product will be really nice. I liked the battery tray repair the least on my last one. I want to see what happens next.
  14. Once you get your timing right, you just hook a vacuum guage to a hose on the intake. If you read some archives and do some web searches you can find all kinds of goodies to help you. There are how tos and common problems to read and think about.
  15. If you measure your manifold vacuum you should have 20-21. If you have less you have leaks. Since you installed the distributor 180 degrees off and had to switch the wires around to get the car to start, its probably another newbie mistake manifesting as high idle. If you have good manifold vacuum at idle, the problem isnt leaks. New parts doesnt mean they work properly. Especially with parts bought from chain stores. Sorry you are learning the hard way. As the saying goes, fools rush in. You got it backwards kid. Research first, work on car second. Not work on car first, research failure second.
  16. Hi, I need a known good ECU for an 82-83 280zx 5 speed. California emission models wont work. Let me know what you have. Thank you.
  17. Yes, I have the 81,82, and 83 manuals and the turbo supplement. The values are diferent between the 83 fsm and the turbo supplement. Well, at least thats what I thought I saw... Looks like I need to learn to use these manuals first. Any pointers for me?
  18. That sounds about right. What kind of discount does he get, say... If I hooked you up with a used vented hood? You can even snap the studs off the vents yourself. Baked paint, surface rust, but no major dents?
  19. Tybee260z- You have a lot of parts. I have a 260z as well. It always wants something. You know how ladies are. The hoods I do have, are used hoods that I intended to refurbish. They all have surface rust here and there, no major dents, baked paint. It takes some work before it would be painted and bolted on.
  20. You just dont see those hoods anymore.
  21. Austyn- I got a buddy from las vegas on here, I wonder if he needs something. He is on my friend list. Ive been to Reno, loved it.
  22. I see. Thanks for the info. You have watched me struggle on this issue, and things are starting to make sense. Its my ignorance of the operating mechanisms on these parts that is the cause of the stress and delay in repair. Things are looking up. My multimeter was delivered today. I got a matco basic meter. Tonight I have to give myself a multimeter 101, and read the booklet. I hope it has a booklet. I better open this thing up! If it is in the harness, Im going to need a big brother to help me with it. Its completely unfamiliar, and my confidence is pretty low. My plan is to test the AFM per the turbo manual from 81. Im hoping the values are out of range.
  23. You had to pick the nicest damn hood I have. It hurts to think about selling it. Dig around untill you see a vented hood, Its coated with a white tinted ppg epoxy sealer- www.flicker.com/photos/herozs130
