  1. Update!! Finally got a chance to hook up the mechanical gauge and test flog the car last weekend. Under hard acceleration at high revs the oil pressure goes away slowly. Even after letting the engine for back to idle, pressure still dropping. Once i stopped and shut the engine off then restart it, then pressure returns. My diagnosis is that the pressure relief is hanging open. So next paycheck I plan to change the pump. Hopefully this will end the oiling woes without having to pull the engine.
  2. Cool. Then that will be my next investment either way. More oil volume is good! thanks everyone for the info. If the mechanical gauge yields fowl results I plan to yank the engine and check the oil pickup, and at the same time build some baffles up in the pan.
  3. Ok so next goofy question. Is there a different drive shaft for the pump for the turbo pump? Or is it all the same stuff just the pump being the difference?
  4. So just for my own piece of mind, can i swap the oil pump without yanking the pan?
  5. BluD, i am not sure of the age of the sender or how beat the engine is. it was swapped in by the previous owner's hack mechanic. It has good compression and minimal cylinder leak down. And as a bonus it doesn't leak! I swapped it over to synthetic oil a while back. It's due for another filter to be spun on since synthetic tends to flush out the yuk. I will probably swap senders out and find a parking lot to thrash around in and see if that makes a difference. I might string in a temporary mechanical gauge too just for my own sanity. I am mainly just trying to make sure there is not any kind of issues that the L28s have with starvation under side loads.
  6. I understand viscosity, and the idiot light thing. My concern is that it is getting starved during the flogging that occurs during the fun that is autocross. However I understand that these engines are tough. Is the oil pump an easy change? And is there any possibility that the pickup is loose or at an incorrect angle?
  7. First autocross with the z car today. Was a lot of fun! First time in over ten year racing a rear drive car. Here is my possible dilemma, during and immediately after a run i have no oil pressure. I realize the electric gauges are so-so at best, but its still alarming. I checked and cleaned the connections to the sender and it stabilized the gauge some. Could there be a problem with the pickup? The engine in my car is from a 83. The previous owner had a hack mechanic, so any number of issues could arise here. Under normal driving it has good pressure. Anyone have any thoughts as to where i should start? I am inclined to put in a redundant mechanical gauge to verify my electric gauge readings. D~

  9. The seats are all the way back here. I usually push mine forward at least an inch or two. Close to the seat is better than far away. Sorry i took these with my cell phone, don't think I can make them bigger. D~
  10. Update on the harness bar. Got off my butt and built one to fit the way i want it to. Since I am not going to run my stock interior, I was not worried about sneaking anything between interior panels. So my bar fits really snug between the "B" pillars. I decided to use the stock mounting locations for seat belts as my hook points. I am quite satisfied with the results. Going to try and attach the pics from my gallery on my profile. Lower mount- Test fit- Painted and harnesses installed- Harnesses- Camera mount- First autocross is next weekend... I am super excited!!!

    camera mount Z

    From the album: Harness bar

Got industrious and decided to make a bolt on mount for my Go Pro. I had a mount that i had previously used in my other autocrosser that mounted to the mirror location. I just flipped it over and removed the attaching bracket. Then built a bracket for the harness bar that is just a two piece clam shell kinda thing... With a tab on it for the camera mount... The camera is wide angle so it shows all of the interior.

    harness Bar Z

    From the album: Harness bar

Painted, installed and all hooked up. The extra material for the shoulder harnesses is easy to curl up and zip tie back so it doesn't look like a fun house for your cat!!

Nearly finished, test fit before paint. The fitment is super tight between the "B" pillars.

Not sure if it is just a 2+2 thing, but the outer seat belt mounting point has an extra hole forward of the one that the seat belt was in. Same size mounting hardware works in that hole. So i built this mount to pick up both of those holes with this mount.
  17. That is pretty much exactly what I have in mind! I Already purchased heim ends from a race supply house. Just need to start welding. Even if my car was not a 2+2 I wouldn't use the strut brace. A harness bar would help ensure a closer fit to your seat as well as the right height. I will be building it soon!
  18. Update! They shipped the lines today!!! (geez... like finally....)
  19. I called, left messages, E-mailed, used E-bays forms. I will know more today hopefully. BTW... I had the spelling wrong. It is Kuruma Motoring. They are a So. Cal. business. Maybe i have been lucky so far, i have been buying parts from E-bay stores for quite a while and have never been blown off like these folks did.
  20. Thought i would give this a bump. Also i would like to warn folks about an E-bay store called Kumera Motoring. I ordered Goodridge brake lines early this month and still have not received them. They did not communicate with me at all until i raised a big stink on e-mail, their phone machine, and E-bay. Turns out they didn't have them in stock like their ad stated. So now i am waiting to see if they get them in their order Wednesday (27th of Feb). After that they said they would refund me. Meantime i have been waiting just shy of a month for brake lines... Did i mention i am not at all happy with them???
  21. does anyone have a preferred seller for the porterfields?
  22. is the later caliper swap easy? what and are the rears the same on the later s130s
  23. hey all. so i did some searching (admittedly, probably not enough but i am at work with my phone...) and am having a hard time sourcing more aggressive brake pads for my 79zx. i did find a few for 81 and later. has anyone got a decent source for some performance oriented pads? i would love to Eventually step up to bigger brakes but for now its gonna have to be somewhat budget friendly. am doing goodridge flex lines (if they ever get to my house) and have fresh rotors and stock pads at the moment. any suggestions?? D~
  24. i just got a set. got 16by 8 with zero offset. just got barely fits with 225/50 rubber. looks awesome though!!!
