  1. Howdy everyone, despite all my talk about how my nwc T5 has lasted so well, the day came last week when it finally tweaked a countergear bearing. I had just installed a 650 demon carb in place of my old holley 650 dp and was testing the new carb out. Sooo worth it, these carbs rock!!! I'm making the same hp 500 rpm lower in my powerband, judging from traction failure. That was the extent of the good news, the next thing I know I'm hearing bearing grind. Here's my thoughts: 1. Buy a G-force rebuilt wcT5 $1,600 + shipng. 2. Buy a new wcT5/lakewood bellhousing combo from summit $1,400 + shipng. 3. Buy a locally-rebuilt wcT5 with gearzone countergear stabilizer $850-$950. Which way would you go if you had around 400tq and was planning a 75-100 shot in the near future? I'm going to move on this in the next couple days so thought I'd put it out there for 2nd opinions.
  2. Usually cheaper and at your door in 2 days. I haven't bought tires in a local tire store in years.

  4. Hello everyone, I need some advice as my tranny is going 'clak-clak-clak-clak' in every gear except 4th and is louder than normal when in neutral, unless I push in the clutch and it's fine. I figure it's bearings, but I know very little about the internals of these trannies. If it is bearing related, what quality bearings should I buy and what's involved in the fix? Thanks for the help.
  5. You are going to have yourself one very, very fast car soon. Props to you for such extreme choice of engines, it will be worth every dime. I can't wait to see how you do at the track once it's all together.
  6. Thank you very much Nic, I may be in touch soon if my latest attempt doesn't work out...
  7. Bah, that's 6 years away...unless our budget crisis expedites the process. Thanks for the cautionary info, Tim.
  8. Thanks GAZRNR, here's what I've got so far: Done. Done. Great, this helps - yes this wire is hooked up to the starter. But the other white wire isn't hooked up to the battery, but is to my alternator. So, instead of using a short, fat cable strait from the alternator to the starter(where I have a 2 guage going back to the battery), my setup is using this white wire to run the charge from my alterternator to my starter and back from there. From what you describe the wire I have on my alternator should go back to the pos battery lead, and use a heavy guage to link the alt & starter. Does that sound right?
  9. Hey Storm, if you have the itch to go big, why not consider a Caddy 500? Dizzy up front, relatively light at 40 lbs. heavier than a sbc, and strokeable. Talk around here lately has me wanting to see one in a Z, sorry if I'm pulling you in the wrong direction.
  10. That's why she likes taking her ZX-11 out there...the only downside is that you and your ride get a radioactive scrubdown at the checkpoint leaving the area. Glad to see you guys liked the story, I give her a lot of credit for the risks involved in taking these pics.
  11. Thanks Tim, I'd like to do that but need to know what else is on that circuit first. If anyone else knows where those wires go I'd appreciate it.
  12. The radioactive "forbidden zone" known as Chernobyl, pics of abandoned Russian cities as seen by a young lady motorcyclist: http://home.alexburke.ca/pripyat/page2.html Wow, what a crazy trip!!
  13. Hello everyone, my problem is this: I took a voltmeter to my battery (trunk mounted) and am only getting 12.5 to the battery while the car is running, I checked the alternator down to NAPA auto and it tested fine at around 14.5-15. So I'm losing it somewhere along the way. The wire that goes from the alternator to the starter looks suspicious - old , worn, and spliced. It goes into my wiring harness (to the fusebox? fusable link? amp guage?) and then the return wire wire comes out in equally bad shape that attaches to my starter. I need to know where these wires go once they disappear into the wiring harness. I'm hoping someone knows without having to split it open. If someone knows where the wires go I could bypass this crappy setup all together. I still need to take a voltmeter and go down the line to make sure this is where I'm losing juice, but based on looks alone these wires must go. Please help, I'm tired of having to re-charge my car every couple weeks.

  15. Very nice, some clear headlight covers would really finish 'em off
  16. I'm with you. At 1,000 pounds lighter than a Z that thing must really move out either strait or sideways - lethal on the street, strip, or track. The potential this car has is impressive to say the least.
  17. 1450 lbs dry, ford cobra 289 w/ tri power. A much lesser one is at $11k+ right now, this guy probably wants some coin for it. What a kick-a$$ ride that would be... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2462676414&category=6472#ebayphotohosting
  18. Hypothetically speaking, yes it's possible. I've seen people on this site make godd time in the past, but I think 2 weeks would be a new record. Good luck
  19. The stock ZX7's handling characteristics can be cleaned up considerably by installing a taller front rim.
  20. 1.Its more original - depends on how you build either motor. For example, I'll bet there are fewer sbc 302s than ford 302s. 2.They rev better - revving is a function of torque not stroke, a shorter stroke will not make you rev better but will allow you to rev higher. 3.Better efi [or so i was told] - I dunno, I do know LT1s are more powerful than stock 5.0s. 4.I plan turboing it and there are barely any apps for lt1 - good point, will any ford kits fit or will they hit the strut towers like the chevy kits? If that's the case you'll have to fab a mount either way. 5.Lighter - yep. 6.cheaper - maybe over an LT1, not a JTR sbc. Good luck Chad!
  21. The 4.3/paxton sc route was done a few years back - I want to say it was SuperDan but I may be wrong. Pictures are out there, somewhere.

  23. John Carpenter's "The Thing" is about as flawless as a horror movie gets, it still holds up even 20 years after it was made!
  24. Thanks for the news, the 1st dawn of the dead will be tough to beat. I do like the idea of the neighborhood driving sequences as the $hit hits the fan...
