  1. Sweet Z, gotta love 'em flared and black. Good luck with your Z and welcome to the board!
  2. Like Jon said. This could be normal, as condensation in the oil will burn off until the oil temp gets to around 240 degrees. Mine did this when cold too. Check your oil/radiator fluid to put you at ease.
  3. Yeah, that's the article that got me thinking on the rods. I guess I won't know until I get it apart, no oil in my radiator but drank from there into my engine. Water jacket may be cracked, head maybe, hopefully just a gasket. Didn't get hot when it happened and was all warmed up, oh well.
  4. Driving back from the river today in my Z smelling the aroma of cooked radiator fluid, open the hood and my breather now looks like a chocalate shake dispenser... So, now that I've got to do the head gasket, I'm considering either: 1. Going with a thinner Fel-Pro gasket to squeeze more comp from my engine (currently 9.5:1) - anyone have experience with these? This is the cheap fix. I'm also getting a bit of blowby through my rings and have considered pulling the crank & pistons and rather than just doing rings... 2. Change the gaskets, upgrade my 327 to 6.125 long rods, JE or keith black pistons, and shoot for 11:1 compression. If the long-rod/smaller intake runner/moderate cam theory holds up I should be cool on pump gas with my setup. Any thoughts, recommendations, advisories or otherwise? Thanks all in advance for your help.
  5. Now here's a guy with a plan, anyone notice he bought WildZ's monster 383 for his swap? He ran 9's with that motor and a 150 shot. Man, that thing is gonna haul... Good luck!
  6. Read what's happening in Italy: http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2004/04/02/1080544688812.html?from=storyrhs&oneclick=true I just read in the NY Times that the villagers are finally back home, but on edge.
  7. Yes indeed, you did well!! Two great modes of transport - one hardtop, one convertible. I'm very happy for you!
  8. Huh. I can hear it now..."tired of running out of luggage space in your fiero? With our cowl hood you'll now be able to fit your golf clubs up front."
  9. Is that a fiero? Looks like one in the rear...
  10. Same size engine bay, not sure on measurements. Good luck, sounds like a cool idea.
  11. LOL!! Z-TARD, that image has me rolling
  12. Thanks Bob, the scoop is from a '69 comet grabber. Good luck with your ZX.
  13. He needs to finish the job and bondo the rest of the car. That way, most wrecks could be fixed by just slapping more over the damaged area.
  14. Keep in mind that with a built motor, your car will shake plenty at idle with rubber mounts as well. Good luck.
  15. I like Mike's 4 main party idea, it'd give us more of a choice than 'coke or pepsi' politics and would encourage less divisiveness in our country. Counterveiling political forces are a good thing IMO. As to the first post, regarding the removal of liberalism. Remember that the American Revolution was a LIBERAL revolution, conservatives of the day were known as 'Tories' and they sided with the British. The US Constitution is the epitome of liberal thought, the way it prevents any one faction from gaining complete power. Alexander Hamilton and John Marshall paved the way for America's conservative movement. My point is that to think liberalism has no place in the US is denying the cornerstones of our political heritage. As for liberalism failing elsewhere, I envite you to look over the EU's balance sheets. The Euro is up 30% against the dollar in 2 years. They have a GNP on par with us without the massive debt overhang we are growing here upwards of $1.5 billion a day. I'm not happy about the slide as I'm for team USA, just stating some points that came to mind when I read the article.
  16. For the first time in decades, starting about 9 months ago the US government began interviewing citizens to serve on local draft review boards should there be a need for another draft. These are the people that would screen you to see if you are elligible. I know this for a fact because I went to the gov site that gave you all the info on how to apply, I don't know how many spots have been filled. Last month both houses of congress announced their plans to discuss a possible draft for mid-2005. Ideas floating in congress so far are increases to the elligible age of 34, reduced college differment, and drafting women. Any draft-dodgers among you should know a law was passed two years ago requiring Canada to return those who run north. There are a few recent developments to realize when considering the likelihood of another draft. 9 out of our 10 combat divisions have either already served in Afghanistan or Iraq, are on their way, or are there right now. To help manage our lack of manpower, programs like stop-loss have been innitiated so that active military who are close to discharge are told they must stay in for more time. High levels of national guarsmen over there, too. Some retired military are being reactivated. A few months ago I saw where we even extended the invitation to Canada's Native population to serve in the US military under some ancient law we struck with Canada. If we need troops anywhere else in the world or decide that or current numbers in Iraq of 135,000 look kinda small compared to the 550,000 we had in Vietnam, they can't just come from thin air. I'll give you guys some choices... If you don't know already, we have close to 20,000 mercenaries in Iraq from various parts of the world, primarily the US and South Africa. They are the number two force over there, bumping britain to third not long ago. If any of you guys are ex-special forces or seals, you can make up to $1,500 a day working as a 'private contractor' for the military. If you don't have this experience expect less, but still in the neighborhood of 4x what you'll make in the military. Better hurry, the money is coming from the Iraqi rebuilding fund and so far about 25% has been used for private security. If you are looking for some cash, this is the way to go. Then there's the Guard. Flexible and allows for a civillian job. Not bad if you only get called for a short period. Some guardsmen have been in Iraq for a year, since the pay doesn't equal what they many make in their regular jobs those with high stateside expenses have struggled. If you have lotsa bills and/or mouths to feed, something to consider. Then there are our 4 branches of the military, I would personally go Navy myself, always thought it'd be cool to see the world that way. Nothing against the other branches just be careful if you're on the ground around DU. There's tons of depleted uranium laying around in Iraq from our tank shells and A-10 rounds, 4 times what we used in gulf 1. When a DU round hits a hard surface, about half turns into dust and is carried airborne. The Major we sent to clean up the DU we shot in kuwait has testified before congress that of he now has 1,000 times the normal level of radiation in his body and many from his team have either contracted cancer or have already died. He saw the long-term damage this stuff has done to people who live next to where it was fired in the Balkans, Afghanistan, and Iraq, and that it'll still be harmful long after anyone will remember why a war was fought. His name is Doug Rokke, type his name into google if you'd like to know more. I'm in no way trying to scare you guys, I just think it's important to let you all know one of the little-known hazards of modern warfare. Good luck whichever way you go!!
  17. Mine ultimately feed into this 3" hooker aerochamber. Sorry I don't have any sound clips. The combo resulted in a system with a great tone at idle and IMO never gets too loud. My old Z used to let cops know I was around two blocks away, this is just stealthy enough but still sounds plenty mean. On the freeway you can easily hold a conversation without having to yell, but you will hear it, as well as the wooshing sound of exhaust moving through the spiral flows under your legs.
  18. The moroso spiral flows have a hollow tube that runs thru the body of the muffler on which the fins are attached - your idea is correct ON3GO about the flow. I have two of these in 2 1/2" that feed into a Y-pipe back to a 3" hooker aerochamber. I am very pleased with the unique sound this package produces, and without the drone Mikelly talks about.
  19. I know this might not be good info for you now that you're ready to chuck you McLeod hyd t/o setup, but a couple years ago two members figured out a way to fix the leak without any recurrence of problems. It requires replacing the swivel banjo fittings with solid copper washers, be advised in doing so you need to install the engine and tranny together as one unit. If you want a pic of this mod, let me know and I'll email it to you. If you're over trying to fix it, I definitely understand. Good luck!
  20. Enough said Scottie, I get your point. The info I referenced in my last post, to be fair, was taken from articles that were all written before the start of the war. I am not interested in revisionist history either, just for the record. RIP paul Johnson.
  21. Couldn't be truer VRJoe, lets have a look at the points you made in #2 as an example: (1) The media has been telling us this all along as a reason to go for Saddam, who is in violation of 17 resolutions, and that serious consequences should face countries that go against UN. As a result, Saddam got hit with one of the strongest embargos in history. Compare that treatment with our ally, Israel, currently in violation of three times that number, who despite this we gave $10 billion in US aid last year. What does this say about how seriously we take UN resolutions? (2) UNSCOM wasn't kicked out of Iraq, read what the chief weapons inspector, Scott Ritter, had to say. He went to his boss three times complaining that the inspection teams were being used to spy on Iraq rather than inspecting weapons thus compromising the security of his team, so he quit. A week later, our team was pulled out by Clinton and cruise missiles went in. If we weren't kicked out of Iraq according to the inspectors, what would make you think otherwise? (3) Read CIA agent Pelletierre's article in my last post. No mention of the fact that Iraq's 12,000-page weapons declaration shows our government and 24 US corporations facilitated Saddam's WMD programs in the 80's, illegally I might add. Don't we share some responsibility here? (4) First, UNSCOM concluded in 1998 that 98% of the programs were eliminated. Second, you forget that last year we allowed a UN inpection team under Hans Blix to look for WMD's. They didn't find anything and said they needed more time. Rather than giving them time, the US, Spain, and UK met in the Azores and decided that Saddam was too much of an "immediate" threat to wait any longer. According to Blix, we stopped the inspections, not Saddam. (5) Need I say more? Our own intel brings much of the argument you present into question. As for your point about the media, on one hand you express a need to be suspicious of the media and to do your own research, in this I totally agree. What I found ironic was then seeing you then use the same case for war that has been pounded into us by the mainstream media. You guys are like family so I hope I didn't offend anyone here, just showing it's important to listen closely to our own intel and less to rhetoric.
  22. Moroso spiral flow would be my choice since you got the hi-temp issues of a rotary: Quote from Jegs: "innovative baffles are specially tuned to reduce the backpressure of high-volume exhaust systems. Spiral baffle design is unaffected by heat, less restrictive, and more efficient than fiberglass/steel wool packed mufflers. Manufactured from high grade steel with continuous welds for leak-free sealing. 4'' diameter, 12'' body, 18'' overall length."
  23. Harry Truman left office with a 26% approval rating because of the way he handled Korea, LBJ, another democrat, decided not to run for re-election because the Vietnam war destroyed his presidency. It happens to both dems and repubs. We live in a country founded on freedom of speech, we must ask ourselves if we'd rather live under a dictatorship where political dissent gets you jailed or killed. I do agree however that dissent should be conducted in a respectful manner, and maybe that's what rubs us the wrong way. For example, Bush proclaimed that Saddam killed his own people(the Kurds) as a reason to get rid of him. If we stop here, the conclusion is obvious. Historians chimed in to point out that the killing of Kurds happened during the Iran-Iraq war for a reason - the Kurds of Iraq committed treason and fought on the side of Iran, effectively 'seceeding' from Iraq. We were on Iraq's side when Saddam put them down down brutally, maybe we understood that treason isn't usually viewed well in any country. We didn't let the south seceed from the union in 1860. No, we fought a Civil War, with notable slaughters of our own like the infamous 'Sherman's March' through the south. To declare Lincoln or Saddam as a leader who murdered his own people is only a half-truth without putting the actions in historical context. If our president isn't going to give us the whole story, I see nothing wrong with credible individuals like Mr. Pelletiere, the CIA's senior analyst on Iraq under Reagan who from day one has challenged GWB on Iraq's gassing of the Kurds. He should know, he's the guy that oversaw all the intel we had from that time period. Would his patriotic duty be to sit quietly as his work - the most thorough on this issue - was distorted, or to challenge areas where he knows better? Read for yourself: http://foi.missouri.edu/polinfoprop/warcrime.html P.S. Jay is right in the sense that people are very divided and often unwilling to do much legwork on why they support their party of choice. As Kurt Vonnegut said recently, " thanks to TV and for the convenience of TV, you can only be one of two kinds of human beings, either a liberal or a conservative. Which one are you in this country? It’s practically a law of life that you have to be one or the other. If you aren’t one or the other, you might as well be a doughnut."
