  1. Grumpy Can't thank you enough for all those links that are just packed with useful information. Like taking a correspondence course. I'm from the old 50's and 60's days of backyard mechanics and 57 Chevy's. Just getting back into the flow after many years and deciding to have some fun with a 1983 280ZX 2+2 I owned since new. It's now in the process of getting a 383 sbc so I need all the info I can get(and hopefully absorb). DanH
  2. Well, any results to post on the big race??? Been waitin!!! DanH
  3. Grumpy Would you please view the comments under the topic 280ZX Conversion in this exhaust column and comment on fabrication design, which becomes a big issue on most sbc installs. Thanks, DanH

    1983ZX Conversion

The block huggers didn't work on my application on the steering side so it looks like we're heading into custom fab territory. After reading Grumpy's comments on determining optimum header size I wonder what effect design/shape has on enhancing or diminishing performance when the original manufacturer's design is compromised through custom fabrication just to make things fit. Grumpy, would you like to share some thoughts on header efficiency from both a size and design standpoint?
  5. Greimann Thanks for your comments regarding the manual vs. auto tranny. In the past year no one I talked to recommended a manual over the 700R4. Perhaps I should have kept talking. Don't know what I'll do with my left foot once the 700 is installed. Have you had any success installing the driver side header on a sbc in an 83ZX 2+2 with stock power steering? DanH
  6. What bottle shot system did you go with and what kind of rear are you running? I don't have much clearance with the stock hood for any system that increases vertical height. Also wondering how you keep it on the ground at speeds near 150 MPH. DanH
  7. Dan Looks like you've solved the problem we're going through. Do the 2 1/2" pipes cause any vibration when cruising on the street or is that not an issue for your application? DanH
  8. A word of caution. I am having a 383 Stroker installed in my 83ZX now. The engine is rated in the 430-440 HP range. The engine manufacturer suggested that I not hook it up to a manual tranny that has an aluminum case as the torque of the engine may eventually twist it. So I changed my mind and went with the 700R4. Perhaps someone in this forum has had some experience on this and will comment. Dan H.
  9. In the process of installing a 383 Chevy Stroker in my 83 280ZX 2+2. Having a problem finding a header that will clear the stock power steering column assembly. Comments from anyone with any experience or knowledge here would be most welcome.

In the process of having a 383 Stroker placed into my 1983ZX 2+2. Will be running a 700R-4 tranny and Skyline GTR limited slip rear. Having a problem finding a header that clears the stock steering column (power steering unit). Does anyone have any experience or proven knowledge on this?
