Bolt in Rear Drum to Disc Conversion
hawaiiz replied to hawaiiz's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
"like I said be careful with those 200sx calipers.. that have the fixed e-brake arm. They will hit the brake line where the rubber/stainless meets the solid brake line. I would cut off the arm honestly" Can you elaberate on this issue because I was under the impression that the 200zx was suppose to have one of the best angles for the brake cables?? Any Pics?? Thanks HawaiiZ -

Zcarnut - Excellent - I thought this would work. Why did you want larger rotors???? Was the smaller rotors OK?? Did you need an adjustable porportioning valve?? If not how was your Bias??? I have the Toy 4 piston front on new stock rotors and am doing the setup above in back, any other thoughs??? Thanks HawaiiZ -
Aloha All My 12/77 280z had a raised deck in the back with a set of speaker in it. After a few and looking at it for a while my buddy and I came up with plan to 1 make more space 2 add a quality sub install - in location of Power antenna Plus 3 add a dedicated tool location - In spare tire location 4 add more hidden storage in the little hatches (unused in 12/77) 5 lighten it up - spare tire and soon bumper and its hardware At a loss of 1 spare tire and jack 2 Power Antenna MDF Face with custom fiberglass housing - Finished with carpet and a grill. Ive removed the deck and all the brakets etc. Also removed ... well Ill take some pics and cut some cardboard..will show pics. Id love to see or hear any ideas or thoughts. HawaiiZ

Bolt in Rear Drum to Disc Conversion
hawaiiz replied to hawaiiz's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Aloha and Yes they are the factory 82 Maxima bolt on brackets - brand new, he says there are 5 sets in LA. My research ive accumulated over the last few months has led me to belive this setup to be a good one. Am I missing something major?? The 81 to 83 Bolt On Rear Caliper brackets should fit right on without modification. I also have the new wheel bearings, seals and ujoints, Blue springs and older Tokito struts to install so 4 bolts are right in my schedule. Plus the prep and paint everything. I could not find por-15 or Herculiner after checking multiple locations. I eneded up with Jasco Rust convertor and ordered herculiner from ACE, manager said will start stocking it from now on. Also bought all kinds of more paints, primers, and all that stuff that it takes to clean apply and cleanup. Im gonna test this Jasco stuff on other items (tractor etc) and see how it works. I need to post for advice in the autobody forums and learn more. Ill let you all know how it goes. Peace HawaiiZ -
Bolt in Rear Drum to Disc Conversion

Well the junkyard guy in town wanted too much for the brackets plus I would have to pullem my self and the car is in a nasty location so I just orderd new brackets from Coursty Nissan, $115 shipped for both. I got permission to pull the calipers from the 200sx down the road and will do a test fit with them first, if all looks good Ill usem as cores for some loaded rebuilts. Im going into town today to dump the shell of one of my parts cars today and pickup the ZX rotors, a gallon herkuliner kit and some por-15 or equivant if I can find some. I will post pics of the Brake conversion. -
Can anyone Identify this part???

Unless you can get here first and pick it up, it's gone. JD 425-238-8548

Going Old School 215/60SR14 on 14x7 Rims
hawaiiz replied to hawaiiz's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Wel 225s would be great, Taking a look around the 225/50r14s would be good but not available on a street tire. I guess I could get some look into getting some rims. I like the Old school look - Im even going to put the white lettering on the outside. Im 39 and still skateboard - Old school skateboard tail only on one side, fat wheels, Yea Man. MORE I liik at the 225/60r14 the more im liking them. Now to see where I can get them from. -
Update - Now looking the the 225/60r14s ALoha All - My New 280z z came with some pretty decent 14X7 rims. Always hard to decide on what tires and rims to get so I thought Id start out with the esiting rims and pickup some new rubber. The Big Island of Hawaii is a realy tough place to get stuff so aside from 195/70r14s I need to special order. Since we have a Costco I want to order the BFG Radial TA 215/60SR14. Im installing Iluminas, staying with stock springs, removing the huge bumpers and I d like to keep the stock height. So the Questions. What does my rim offset look like? http://picasaweb.google.com/cruzinit/ZRebuildWheels Id like my Z to look somthing like this one when done. PS Hope using your pic is OK. Will I have any problems with the wider 215s - "The 195s on it were way skinnny" - with these 14x7 rims. Thanks in advanced. HawaiiZ
-
Off topic - But I would like to emulate the front end on your Z. Do you know what turnsignal lights and front spoiler were used and can you take some closeups please. Thanks In Advanced - Hawaiiz

Aloha All - Sorry to post so often but Im on a spending roll since the Z will be on the jack stands for a couple weeks I getting it all togather. Ive decieded to go with this conversion setup unless anyone has better ideas. Bracket - 80-83 Rear Brake Caliper Adapter Bracket #44155-04S10 - $125 Calipers - 82-83 200sx Loaded - $120 Rotors - 83 280ZX rotors 10.25 - $42 Does anyone have this exact setup??? PS Local yard says he has the brackets and theres an abandon 200sx down the road for the cores. And thanks Again. Hawaiiz

And I thought I had it rough. This guys solution was to cut it. http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/suspension/rearend/index.html Since I have the new bushings and spindles from the parts car I may do the same thing, sure would be nice to have the puller. I got a stick welder think I can fab a puller up...Hmmmm.
-
Thanks Guys for all the input. Since its not my daily driver Ive decided to leave it on jacks just put new bearings in the existing hub, and throw a few more hundred in it while Im at it, bushings, struts, cv u-joints, clutch slave etc, oh yea and Tires, ouch $$$ leaning tword the BFG TA 215/60-14 on my 14x7 and hope for no rub. I did the Toyta Brake upgrade in the front and am looking for the maxima bracket if I can find one will do that also. Love this forum. Peace

Aloha All - I just fiannly found a z worthy of a restore, very few left out here on the big island of Hawaii. Anyways it has lots of problems but the one I working on now is the passenger rear wheel beaings. I happen to have some parts cars and pulled the whole stut mount assembly (brakes, bearings, spring etc) I then clamped it to a bench vise, removed the "transverse link and lock nut" and with some wd40 and large punch out came the "spindle" the long rod with treads on both sides. Great I said to my self, no problem. And proceeded to pull the same parts from my new Z. All went well untill getting out the "spindle" It wont budge and Ive beat the crap out of it. Any Ideas Guys. Thanks in advanced. Cruzinit. PS I played with the old spindle and it appears the lock nut slighty deforms the spindle, i filed i bit around the locknut portion of the spindle and now the old one slides in and out very nicely.
