Hey I am only aware of one TT SHO powered Probe so I think I know that engine. You would need to mate it up to a strong clutch and probably have the T5 built. Or if you go AOD then you would definetly need to buy or build a performance one. I am still contemplating this swap as I am restoring the body and working on my 240z. Mine would not be turbo though, I would rather go supercharger since there is plenty of room in front of the motor. Anyways the SHO motor is not the best choice as far as power to weight ratio goes or simplicity of fabricating it in there but it is awesome in so many other ways. Plus no one can resist the beautiful intake manifold especially if you polish it! Goodluck!

The Datsun B210 got about 50mpg so it would probably be a good candidate for a hypermiler. However im not sure if then A12 engine would be a good candidate for a Z swap because they made less than 100 hp ( I think around 80). Something to ponder though.

Heres a situation. Im sitting at a stopsign on a road that enters another road where the speed limit is 55 mph waiting for a car that is approaching quickly. Suddenly a minivan plows into the back of my bike and pushes me into the middle of the intersection directly in the path of the oncoming car. Because I left my bike running I was able to accelerate off the road and out of the way of the oncoming car. I was hurt (broken wrist) but I would have been dead. Also if I could have seen the minivan coming (it came out from behind a corner) then I could have simply moved out of the way. In fact I always leave my bike in first gear with the clutch in at stop. Sitting at a stoplight with the engine turned off is not safe. Especially not on a bike. That form of hypermiling is not worth the extra gas. I could give you dozens more examples where the throttle has saved me from a crash. I agree that it is much more fun to modify you vehicle for better gas mileage than to sacrifice safety.

Id just like to say that turning of your bikes engine while you are still riding it so that you can coast is extremely dangerous and no one should ever do it. Bikes need to be able to accelerate to remain stable and it is especially important to be able to roll on the throttle to put weight on the rear wheel in a turn. If you needed to get out of the way of a car or turn quickly you would be in a world of hurt. Proper throttle control and steering will get you out of more situations than the brakes in a car, but this is 10x more true on a bike. I doubt the safety of doing this in a car, but doing it on a bike is a recipe for disaster. Sorry I had to chime in on the safety issue here. Ive been riding a long time so ask me how I know. I agree that driving techniques are a huge factor in obtaining good fuel economy but you should not sacrifice safety. Focus instead on aerodynamics, weight, and a good engine choice.

Flat sixes are awesome, if you can figure out a way to do it then do it!!! I will be really interested to see how it comes together. Also since its a flat six you can probably get most of the weight really low and far back so it will be interesting to see the effects on handling. If you turboed it then it would be a beast and totally unique which are the two top prioties for me when im building a car.

Yea itdoes have Falken tires on it so it probably was your car. If it was then im in luck because you could probably tell me more about it. Thats weird if I just found the previous owner. I bought it from some guy and his parents were making him get rid of it. He even delivered it to my house. There are some rut pots that look pretty bad but I think it is a solid enough peice to turn into HybridZ. However, I still have to see how bad everything is once I tear it down some more. For now my plans are to keep it.

Sorry the box is the weather stripping kit that came with the car. Im pretty sure the cat didnt come with the car but I dont know where it came from so, maybe? What im most worried about is the rust on the inner fenderwell near the frame rails. I think im going to have to wait until the tear down to see how far that really goes. Did I mention this car only cost me $250?

Sorry my computer crashed in the middle of posting the pics.

So this is it, my first Z car. No motor, no tranny but lots of rust and horrible bondo work. Of course I bought this car to make into a hybridz. The car also came with a crossmemeber that is supposed to be for a small block ford, an 8 gallon fuel cell thats never been used, a roll bar that was never installed, and a new weatherstriping kit for the car. Ive been lurking around these forums for around 2 years and im finally starting to take some action. So I want to know your opinions on whether this car would be a good candidate to restore, or should I just sell the shell and the parts? I have good metal working skill so replacing rust will not be the problem and I am planing on this being a looooong project. So I tried to take a pictures of the whole car and the worst rust areas. The bondo isnt filling in any dents but whoever applied it tried to fill over the bumper grooves and things like that with solid bondo. This is going to be a mostly street driven car. Let me know what you think.

Around how much would a good tune cost if you upgraded the cam?

Im familiar with the 7m and BHG's:x. I had an 89 supra turbo for a while, you know, untill the blown head gasket. It was too hard to resist turning up the boost. Anyways more pics!

So what was the cause of your first blown motor if you dont mind me asking? Also are you two running metal head gaskets or just regular ones with some proper torquing?

When I was 18 me and my friend painted a 93 f150 with sunburst yellow rustoleum after it got stolen and driven to mexico and beat up. We did all the bodywork and prep work by ourselves. A few years later somone smashed into the side of it and we took it to get an estimate so the person who crashed into could have their insurance pay for it. The guy who came out to estimate it said that the "professional paint job" was worth more than the truck and that a company like maaco wouldnt be able to match the paint finish anyway so we should just have the truck totalled. We had painted like 5 cars before that though. Anyways if you prep it right anyone can make this paint look really good. Not show quality but way better than maaco and cheaper too.

That looks freaking great. Too bad the head makes it so your intake runners are right next to your really hot exhaust manifold. Probly barely makes any difference but it still makes me sad:icon_frow.

Yea SHOs suck in the quarter mile. Mostly because they are basically Ford Taurus's and they are FWD and FWD sucks. First of all its about impossible to hook up so your 60 foot time is crap. There are 500hp supercharged/turbo SHO's that are barely running 12s or low 13s. Which is why it would be awesome in a Z!

Yea ive heard about that salt flat car, n.a too thats crazy. I know that the aerostar bellhousing is hard to find but its not like they arent out there. Also if I cant find one I can always go automatic. My original plan was to make a v8 automatic but then I got taken by the SHO idea and thought I might as well save some weight with a manual if I can find the parts.

Thanks Braap I know what your saying. I think everyone can agree on these forums that they enjoy a little uniqueness by swapping whatever engine into their Z. And the SHO engine at least has that going for it. That being said I answered my own question about the automatic transmission and the Sho engine with a little searching on the SHO forum. It turns out you can use any auto tranny that came on a 3.0l Vulcan engine. But of course that will weigh a lot more than a t5. So I guess it will just depend on availability.
