  1. I've got a 71' driver door in GREAT shape.. Willing to ship. PM me if your intersted and I'll send some pics.
  2. I'm looking for a good working Turbo ECU, prefer manual, but auto will work as well. Thanks..
  3. Sounds like you are on the right track... When you pull the oil pump, there is an oil pump shaft with a gear which spins the shaft and distributor. It sounds like you may be a tooth or more off. At this point, you may be better off resetting the timing from scratch. This requires setting the engine at TDC, pulling the pump/shaft, making sure the dot on the shaft lines up with the oil hole on the oil pump (hard to describe) and then inserting back into the engine. You want the half moon on the top of the oil pump/distriubutor shaft to be pointing at 11:25 when its installed. Maybe someone has a picture of this that they can post. Also, you can pull the pump without draining the oil. Hope this helps.
  4. Thanks GrayZee, Yeah, the only thing I can think of is that my existing ignitor is passing the 12v signal through to both terminals of the coil. I did a quick search on the other ignitor options you mentioned and the availability on those is much better. I appreciate the tip.
  5. I've got a great condition one from a 71. Pretty sure its what you need. It has the short pig tails. Plus I'm local if you want to come check it out. Just let me know. Thanks, Sean
  6. I'm finished installing an 83 L28ET into my 71 240z and at the point where I'm trying to get it started. I have a question on the ignitor. When I have 12v going to the ignitor, both the positive and negative sides of my coil have 12v. Is this correct? I'm going to try and test the ignitor using the 9v battery trick mentioned by someone else, but thought I'd ask if this is normal. Thanks.
  7. The pilot bearing gets pressed into the end of the crankshaft, so it's normal for it to start a little crooked, but it should straighten itself out. I think most people use a socket with close to the same diameter and a regular hammer to get it installed. It'll take a few good wacks to get it in far enough. You don't have to worry too much about breaking it. The surface you don't want to damage is the inner portion, as this is where the input shaft of the tranny resides when installed. Dont forget to grease it before installing the tranny. If the outer portion gets scratched, that shouldn't matter. Also, a rubber mallet will have too much cushion and will make the job 10 times harder.
  8. I purchased a 71 240z and I am nearing completion of my L28ET swap w/ T5 Trans. The previous owner had cut out the original tranny mounts (w/ vertical style bolts) in the trans tunnel to fit a different tranny behind an LT1. Anyway, I just picked up some 280z tranny mounts with the horizontal bolts and I have a couple questions about how to weld them in to place. My thoughts were to drill out the spot welds and use those to weld the mounts to the inner tunnel wall. I think they are called plug welds... Does this sound like a good/safe way to install them? Also, I need to know the distance from the top of the trans tunnel to the center of the bolt hole so I know how far up the tunnel to install them. Thanks!
  9. Hello all, I'm looking for the chassis side tranny mounts the are spot welded to the inside of the tranny tunnel. The previous owner of my car had a 6 speed behind an LT1 and had cut out the stock mounting locations to get the T56 to fit. My car is a 71, but I'm looking for the 73 and later style tranny mounts (horizontal). If anyone has a Z series parts car beyond repair and wouldn't mind cutting these out, please let me know along with how much with shipping 49418. Thanks..
  10. OK, I figured it out. I found a nice disassembly and reassembly manual from drivetrain.com... See link for pdf of manual.. http://www.ttcautomotive.com/English/media/pdfs_autogen/T-5_Service_Manual.pdf
  11. Hey guys, I just opened up my T5 from an 83 turbo donor to make sure everything is ok, and to reseal the case so I don't get any leaks after installation. My question is, what is the trick to install the top cover with the shift forks? I thought I had everything in nuetral and lined up properly. When I put it back together to test it, the shifter was stuck. The tranny shifted fine before, so i'm assuming it moved on me when i put it together. Should I put this into a gear before putting it together? Thanks....
  12. Bringing up an old thread. I figured after reading this post and using the grease method to successfully remove my pilot bushing, I should post what I did. I took the new pilot bushing with me to Lowes hoping that a wooden rod may fit into the bushing snug enough for it to work. I found that a 5/8" wooden rod (I went with an oak piece for strength) fit perfect in the bushing. It was slightly snug. After putting some bearing grease behind the bushing and wacking it a few times with my bfh, it came out really easy. I tried the "rent a tool" from a local auto parts place, but the tool was slightly too large to fit into the opening of the bushing.
  13. That coincides with what a buddy of mine thinks too. I believe the center of the adapter is the "inlet" going into the engine, and the offset line is the "outlet".. Thanks for checking.
  14. Challenger, have you had a chance to trace your oil lines? Thanks.
  15. bippity, boppity, bump.... Just got back from Walt Disney World and I have all these annoying things stuck in my head. I'm still looking for this piece though. Thanks.
  16. The side of the oil cooler is the "inlet" and the top or bottom, depending on mounting, is the "outlet". So I believe I need to know where the side "inlet" connection goes to on the adapter (middle or offset position). Thanks
  17. Hi All, I'm almost done installing my 2nd gen RX7 oil cooler with the 280zxt oil filter adapter plate from an 83 turbo with auto trans. I know the flow on the oil cooler side, but I cannot find what fitting is in and out on the block side? I've searched and have been unable to find anything. I assume it matters. Thanks in advance.
  18. This is what the part looks like. I believe any manual zx tranny has this same styled gear housing, not just the Borg Warner. If you have one, please let me know how much with shipping to 49418. Thanks.
  19. I just recieved my T5 Tranny from an 83 donor and found that the speedo housing threads are broken. If anyone has a junk/cracked datsun T5 Trans and wouldn't mind parting with this piece, I would be much ablidged. Just let me know how much. Thanks.
  20. My wheels came in today and they look even better in person. Not a bad turn around time if I must say so (granted they had they royal blacks in stock). Kim recieved my money order on Wednesday and I had them at my door step the following Tuesday. You cannot go wrong getting a set of these... Thanks HybridZ.
  21. I've been in contact with Kim and decided to order a set of the staggered royal black. Kim was very good at replying to my emails. I sent him my money order and asked him to call me when he recieved it, which he did. The wheels have been shipped and I should recieve them by middle of next week. If they come in on time, this will have been an extremely smooth transaction. Thanks for getting this setup. You've allowed many of us to get custom sized wheels for a fraction of the price. Now I just need to save for tires...
