nigel, By any chance, do you or your friends have a 16" watanabe wheel that you can test fit? -

Got one. Thanks to those who offered! -
Hi, I'm looking for a the lower front center valance panel for a early 260z... I think the late mode 240z's are the same too? Damage and rust free please! Anywho, message me with what you got!

Undergoing final adjustments to body panels. Looks good in the pictures right? Its actually not that great, mostly in the front.... Doors are perfect. Rear hatch will require some tweaking. to be continued....

Count me in as well (w/center ring) -
Thanks! I can only justify spending this much because I do not plan on doing another project after this car is done. Don't plan on selling the car ever either. And more progress!! Wow! Things are moving a lot faster now. They've done more work in this past month than the previous 2 years (there's a story behind that). So in the last few days, they did more finishing work to the exterior. Epoxy primer getting laid down Layer of slicksand. Nice and smooth body line! They will block sand the car again, and perhaps lay down another layer of slicksand and block sand again. They will hang the rest of the body panels now, and then do some final fitting and adjustments, ensuring all gaps nice.

Costing me lots so far! Including some new/used repair panels, I'm already up to at least $20k. A lot of labor involved getting the car stripped. I'm guessing by the time things are done, its going to be in the $30k to $35k range. Since this project has been taking over 2.5 years, it doesn't hurt as much. The bodyshop only charges me in phases. There was a lot more rust involved than the pictures i posted up... I can see why there is a lot of DIYers when it comes to bodywork. Its expensive! If I'd known how bad things were gonna get, I would have looked for a new shell... but I'll do the z gods a favor and save this one from going to the scrap yard.

A little update. Scorpion coating stuff on the inside as well. Good for sound deadening and keeping moisture away from metal for good!Won't see much of this anyways, since I'll have full interior.
-
Things are finally moving on. Underside was mostly completed this week Dropped rear suspension assembly Final Weld and cleaning up Time for some epoxy underneath! Epoxied! Some seam Sealer. You can also see the BAD DOG rear frame rail extension. Sealed with some Scorpion undercoating. Looking much better! Next up, should be rear hatch repairs, fitting on some flares.. Shouldn't be too long after that! I can't wait until I get my car back....

So the original hood that came with the car was dented in and full of bondo. I purchased a used hood. It looked good initially but after sandblasting it, it revealed heavy rust pitting at the nose. The old hood had a good nose piece so we used that as a donor remove nose from old hood remove nose from other hood Repaired! all ready in some slick sand Headlight buckets were the only good thing on this car. lol. Ready to go in slick sand as well. Driver side door all repaired! This door had some rust repair done. Had door mirror holes welded.(i'm going with fender mirrors) passenger side door likewise. Nice and straight! Both front fenders ready! Passenger side is brand new OEM. Suprisingly, it needed some work to make it fit right. Had to add metal and take metal off at some places. up to this point, its been 2.5 years!

thanks, I'll let the bodyshop know that the are doing a good job. Lol I was thinking of a rb back then but I like the oldschool power.... but with faster family sedans nowdays, makes me think twice.
-
this is why sometimes its good to get a blast. Metal was so thin, it made a hole. It wasn`t there before!
-
more pictures..... fixing rusty dog leg on passenger side. Drivers side was just as bad. cut fab with tabco replacement panel. (had to do a lot of reforming) weld in dented corner repaired antenna hole shaved

I was suprised by the rust as well because this car spent majority of its life in california before coming up to british columbia, then here to edmonton. I do have a daily driver so this car will never see snow, that`s for sure. Hopefully, when everything is repaired and put back together, exhaust fumes will be minimized. However, while disassembling the car, I did notice some potential areas where exhaust can leak in.I found a drain tube behind the inner wheel arch of the driver side wheel well. Not sure if that`s supposed to be there, but maybe it could be a potential spot.

Thanks! I will be going na. I like the sound of a naturally aspirated L series engine. It does cost more, but I like the looks of triple side drafts! I don`t plan on doing the engine work myself this time around since I don`t have the time (getting married and having kids soon). I`m currently shopping around for a builder (rebello, datsun spirit, whitehead performance) to do my engine stuff.

Next up, driver side rocker panel. It had a dent the size of my forearm. So we decided to replace the whole thing Repaired!
-
There was some damage at the rear driver side corner. Rust and damage repaired! Also shaved bumper shock holes. I will install 240z bumpers using JDM bumper brackets.
-
since both passenger and driver side floors were rusted, it was replaced with zeddfindings floor pans and bad dog frame rails and seat brackets.
-
Since sandblasting didn't work, they removed all remaining product by hand Here are some pictures of damage and rust that became apparent and there's more but I think this is enough..

So I bought this car sight unseen. Picture on the ad looked great, seller sounded honest..Boy was I wrong! The only good thing about this car was the interior. Engine bay had a lot of overspray and the paint was orange peeling. I was not impressed. This is the point where I decided to do a complete restoration on the body. Since I have no patience and skill with bodywork, I sent my car to a local custom bodyshop, after I stripped the entire car. This is where it gets ugly. The bodyshop started blasting the body, but had to stop part way because this car was CAKED with bondo. They didn't want to heat and warp the body. I was told that this car had 5 layers of paint and a ton of bondo that hid dents and rust.

Hello folks. My name is Taka. I'm from Edmonton, Alberta Canada! I've been a member for a while and never made my own project thread so here I am! A little back story. I've been in love with S30's ever since I was little when my uncle in Japan took me for a ride in his. For the longest time, I couldn't afford one, but finally purchased my first 240z at 24years of age. A series 1 1971 Awsome car! I had this car for 1 year, then I got sick and tired of hearing my girlfriend complaining about the exhaust fumes so I went and purchased a '09 370z (on a whim) when it first came out. Put some wheels and exhaust on it and that was about it... Great car, but it wasn't the same as a s30. I missed the raw feeling and handling of it! After driving the 370z for 2 summers, I sold it and bought a 1974 early model 260z. I like the 260z because it has the 240z style front end with the 280z style tailights that I like better. Looks like a good car to start right? WRONG!!!!! but I will get into that more later. My plan for this car is to be a resto mod street car with occasional track use. Everything bolt-on parts!! yeah.... doesn't sound very interesting, but I don't like the idea of hacking up the car. I like the car for what it is. Here's what I had in mind for the car: -period correct modifications. Jdm style look. -completely strip and redo body. -add front airdam, spoiler, and zg flares. -wide wheels -lsd -coilovers (not going to slam it too much. Streets here are terrible) -big brakes. -stroked up L28.
