  1. Yes I do. I have it wired to the relay board on slot #15 1KOhm 1/4 watt resistor. I did replace it while troubleshooting just in case. What gets me is that it was working fine one day, then the next day it started doing all of this. Also I have been using the same battery for te last few days while trying to tune the idle and it may be getting low on charge. It is charging as we "speak". Could this be caused by a low batt? I hope not. That would be embarrasing
  2. here's what I've done so far: Remove dizzy grounded the coil wire to ground and turn it by hand. I can hear and see the spartk going to ground from the coil. At the same time RPM gauge on Megatune responds to the rotation of the dizzy. So this tells me the connection and signal to MS is good, right? I did as Matt Cramer sugested and measuared the voltage coming from the dizzy's white wire as I was spining it. Every time it clicked it read 4.2volts (should it be 12v?). HOWEVER; I replaced the distributor, rewire everything, power up computer and MS, turn the key and to my surprise the tach on MS is not moving, no spark from the coil either. It seems to work fine until I turn the key, almost as if its loosing power during cranking. So I wired MS straight to battery just to eliminate that possibility but the condition remains. Any ideas?
  3. Thanks for your replies As I understand the factory transistor is not used. The coil's "+" is connected directly to the #5 "slot" on the relay board with a 10A fuse along with the fuel pump. I'm going to work on it some more right now after I reload Megatune. I have read of some of the guys going MSD in order to get a stronger tach input. I wish I had a stim to find out if the problem is before or after the MS. I also noticed the main relay on the board gets quite warm compared to the other two.
  4. Its at "going high invertred" and dwell is at 3.2. I tried a known good coil with same results. I will try and reload the file and see what happens. Thanks
  5. I have a 77z w/83zxt swap using MS II, PCB 3, direct coil (ZXT coil) control and relay board. I got the car to start, got the timing right and tuned the VE table a little bit, it was way too rich. The car was idling good and it would rev up to 3K RPM pretty good. I was happy!!! I went to start it again today and, well it didnt. I noticed the LED closest to the DB9 connector on the MS II will not light during cranking and theres no spark from the coil. Mega Tune RPM gauge shows zero while cranking and datalog RPM also show zero. It does have power while cranking but it doesnt seem to be getting a tach signal. I dont have a stim. I purchased it assembled. I double check all connections. Everything is the same way it was a day or two ago when it was runing fine.
  6. I have a 77 with a 83zx turbo engine swap. My setup is a completely stock 83zxt with MS-II PCB3 using version 2.25. I am using the direct coil control option with the zxt distributor hooked up to MSII as shown in the manual When it comes to "Ignition Options" setup I am at a loss. Is there someone out there that can shed some light onto these options. I dont completely understand how each affects tuning/setup so pretty much I would be guessing. Trigger offset Skip pulses Predictor Algorithm Predictor Gain Next Pulse Toerance -Cranking % -After Start % -Normal Running % Ignition Output Capture Cranking Trigger Coil Charge Scheme - Standard Coil Charge Spark Output - Going High Inverted Maximum Spark Duration
  7. You know what. I just realized I am my worst critic. I always manage to find some little thing about my car that needs to be fixed, cleaned, replaced etc... and then I get down when I think of all that is left to do. It doesn't help that I have chiped the paint twice working on the car. Pisses me off when I do that. Have to keep reminding myself "it's just a car" Thanks to this post I realized that indeed my z looks pretty good. When progress seems slow just take a second and look back at what you have accomplished. Works every time for me. Thanks to all. You too Ricky
  8. Yeah my car shows emotions. I don't need little cute lights to let the driver next door know how I feel. The loud exhaust, the subdued squating, screeching tires and white smoke. Its deffinitely saying something "get out the way before I crawl up your pipe" or something to that effect. I do like the Idea of cars having hands.
  9. I have always like grey tones on z cars. Looking good. I installed new Springs on my z and it lowered about 1.5in. exactly what I wanted.
  10. Well My car finally made it to the "pages" of hybridz, and I am glad it did. Thanks Ricky for the photos, even that of my lic plate. Still more work to do. L28T on the engine stand wayting for a new home. I would like to thank all of you here since you are the reason my car looks and runs the way it does. I have read hundreds of posts and imagined my car a million different ways and I can say with comfort that I am pleased with the progres. One of the coolest things was to lend my car to the local Nissan dealer for a promotion and see it on the show room floor and have people wanting to buy it. I really don't know everything about z cars, hell!!! I didn't really think I was that cool of a guy, but coming from a 17 yr old; I'll take it. 90% of what I know about my z I learned it here. Again, Thank you all. For the record I'm glad he sold that Fiero and got a real car. I offered him $100.00 to set it on fire and run it off a hill, big hood and all but he would not do it. Oh yeah, its not that I don't like the 77z bumpers. I just wish they werent so damn big and heavy.
  11. My eyes Ohh My eyes!!!! Now my Z will have to be fast enough to travel back in time with; note to self, Do NOT go to gold spandex link!!!
  12. I just picked up a 83 ZXt engine (F54/P90) for $100. It will be going in my 77z. It has everything on it, including the transmission which the owner thought was part of the engine . This engine was kept indoors in a garage and it appears to be in good condition, well, from the outside anyways. And now the swap begins. I will rebuild the engine, get a bigger turbo and a fuel management system and go from there. It will be slow but with some $$ and all the info here I hope to have it done by the end of the year.
  13. My friend's car gave up the ghost I just got a 1983 280zxt engine for $100.00. The engine was running stock with almost 70k miles on it. The car was hit from behind and declared a total loss. The engine was the only part I could get so I will have to hunt for the rest. I want to use this engine on my 77z for my turbo swap. Where can I purchase a rebuilt kit to "refresh" this engine. I am sure that the engine is good for at least another 30k but I still would like to have it done.
  14. I removed the old thermostat after testing it in hot water to see if it was opening a the right temperature. It started to open around 180* - 190*, but it would not open all the way. I figured that if there's no thermostat it will take longer for the engine to warm up but it would run cooler since there's continuous water/coolant flow. Mostly I was just testing to see if better coolant flow would bring the temp down, and it did, but it still goes way up after a few good WOT. What temperature range is best for a replacement thermostat?
  15. I have been running an N47/F54 combo on my 77z for the last two months and I have to say that it's an OK setup for a NA engine. Problem is that now the car runs very hot all the time. The only way to keep the temp down is by driving on cool days with no thermostat. I'm sure the timing is off and may be one of the factors contributing to the problem. Is there anybody with this setup having this same problem. Can a bigger, four row radiator plus an electric fan help bring the temp down.
  16. Cool!! Thanks for the prompt reply guys, now back to work.
  17. The valves on my N47 are noisy to the point that people keep telling me, "Hey man you need to adjust your valves...". I'm kind of tired of listening to the tapping and the people over and over. Problem is I can't find the book (imagine that) with the valve specs. Can someone tell me what to adjust them to, cold & hot, I/E Thanks to all
  18. I'm trying to sell these wheel/tire set to get money for the new ones. They are four 14 4x100 original 280zx rims with 205/70 R14 Michellins MX4. The rims are in perfect condition, no scratches no fading, no imperfections. Its all nearly new with about 1000 miles of normal driving. Check my gallery to see the wheels I will have better shots later this week. Thanks to all
  19. I guess the valves from a P79 are not the same as a N47 valves. I put the valves from a P79 head into an N47 head (some N47 valves were bent) and while doing it I noticed that the stems on the valves from the P79 are a bit shorter . Is there anyway to get around this?
  20. One simple Q I have an F54 block in my 77z and just installed the 1980zx N47 head with MSA headers, along with a new aluminum fuel rail. I am using the 1980zx fuel pressure regulator but I'm not sure which side is the fuel-in, fuel-out. I assumed the IN side is the one with the bent tube so I mounted it that way. I checked for fuel return by disconecting the hose and sticking it into a plastic bottle but no fuel is comming out ??? I cranked the engine and to my amazement it started right away, no manifold leaks, sounds good, idles perfectly but no fuel return.
  21. so where can I buy a FPR from. I looked at Summit but they have quite a few and I'm not exactly sure which one to get. Ebay has even more to chose from.
  22. I have an after market fuel rail for my 77z and I am ready to install. My question is. Can I use the stock FPR or should I use an after market FPR. I noticed the OEM FPR has two "fuel-in" lines. Do I use those two or just use one and cap the other. Any installation tips such as FPR mounting and brackets will be greatly appreciated.
  23. What!!! Looks like English but sounds like Japanese
  24. I have a couple of 5 SPD transmissions laying around the house and they are not identical. I need to find the model number so that I can order the rebuilt kit. Where on the transmission do I find it. It is probably hiden under all the dirt somewhere. Thanks
  25. Where can I find parts to rebuild a 79zx tranny? The local Nissan dealer wants an arm and a leg for the parts and I am tired of used crapped out trannies (3 so far) and all the swaping and returning that goes with it.
