  1. Yeah they have VCT on the inlet and exhaust. Seem to pull well (and flat) all the way to 6000 which isnt bad for a long stroke engine. No lag either (I've only been for a lap in a BF with 6speed ZF Auto - bog standard)
  2. I think he was talking about a Chrylser Valiant Ranger; http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2260943
  3. Awesome Job Mike, looking forward to following progress as it happens. I just read all the sheets on both your 240 and 260, nice cars. Good to see some West Aussie Zeds turning the tyres!
  4. I got a VL Commodore RB30 here, I'll take a pic tomorrow and post it. A friend has a R31 Skyline with and RB30 in it (my old car - I sold it to him) I'll try and get a pic of that at some stage for comparison
  5. When you guys refer to a RB30 sump, what vehicle are you referring to? In Australia they are fitted to VL Commodore and also R31 Skyline, not sure if they are different, just curious if you guys knew the specifics from each vehicle
  6. Yeah man RB30 would be an easy swap I know. Mines from a NA VL - but not hard to tap the gallerie for the turbo feed. Was it a 280ZX your mate had? You should take a ride in a early 240Z or 260Z - totally different animal. Quite a few hundred kilos different, different rear suspension (Older was better i reckon) and the shorter wheelbase means your arse is just in front of the rear wheels, awesome for sideways action! Haha the old Tin-Corners I havent seen one of those around for ages! Reminds me of the Centura I used to have, fairly warm 265, 308 degree cam, 245 head with OS valves, roller rockers etc, 600 Holley - went like the clappers in a straight line but was a boat around corners. The body didnt like the extra torque the doors started to misbehave and not shut properly. Had a green body and a bright orange bonnet - $500 special with a hotty motor - was good fun. I was reading a ford performance magazine the other day while waiting for a chopper, had a TE Tincorner with a AU XR6 motor I think? Had a centrifugal blower on it, would have gone fairly hard I imagine!
  7. I've got a RB30 laying around, probably go with that. I might even resurrect the L28 at first just to get her licensed etc. I have a VG30 laying around too but they seem to be a bit of a lemon. What makes you like Z's so much then? You must have had a mate that had one or something? I think the Falc engine shouldnt be too much work to get in - depends on the deck height, sump placement things like that? The 265 Hemi probably had a comparable deck height. i know the old Ford 250 XFlow had a fairly low deck height, so the rod length / stroke ratio was too small and they wouldnt rev. I guess the newer falc engines have a taller deck height?
  8. Wow you seem to know a bit about these Ford engines, you have a falcon or you just curious? You obviously have a Zed too or you wouldnt be on these forums! I wish I had the money to play around with this stuff but I'm still trying to finish off my house and the missus is still home with the youngin so no spare cash for toys. It would make an interesting car - ford turbo powered Zed. I remember about 18 years ago the first hybrid Zed I ever seen in a magazine, a 240Z with a 265 Hemi in it, turbo'd on LPG. The badges were 265Z. That got me started on liking Zeds in the first place, and I bought mine a year or two later. First car was a 240K then moved to the Zed. She's been off the road for over 10 years now waiting for a cash injection. Take care - Likewise, good to see a fellow West Aussie!
  9. Yeah I didnt think about the variable cam timing issue. Wonder what ECU Nizpro use? The new FG Falcons look good i reckon.. If only I could scam a company car - I'd get one! http://www.drive.com.au/Editorial/ArticleDetail.aspx?ArticleID=51242
  10. Someone should try putting one of these engines in a Zed... The donor; http://www.fpv.com.au/cars/f6-typhoon/overview.aspx Modified; http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=VUWCo3lDjH8
  11. Whats the difference between series 1 and series 2 RB30? How can you tell the difference? I have 2 in my junk pile up the back of my block that I got given for free from wrecks, just wanna see if they are series 1 or 2 and if there is much difference. Does anyone outside of oceania modify the Jatco 4EN71B auto tranny? They are similar to 3N71B but with a overdrive attachment on the output shaft, so in theory you could make a dual range 3 speed gearbox out of one. I know some of the VL Commodore turbo boys use them in high power drag setups. The overdrive allows you to run a real high ratio diff and spool up early with the short first gear ratio resulting from that combo. Redline in overdrive thru the traps. I'm just curious if they are only released in the Aussie GM Holden version of the RB30. The R31 Skyline here also ran an RB30 and 4EN71B combo until '88 I believe, then they swapped over to another auto, RE4 or something? By that stage the VL Commodore had been replaced by the VN with the boat anchor buick 90 degree V6. The 3N and 4EN71B are loosely based on a ford C3 I think? They have lots of torrington bearings where a C3 only has thrust washers
  12. If its only a few miles, put it in a shopping trolley and tip it out when you get home! I moved around my RB30 with a cheap arse sack trolley - even over soft sand - like the fourth one down on this page http://www.kinggroup.com.au/products/trolley/trolleys.htm By the sounds of things you dont have a towbar on your Zed? Trailer might be cheaper to hire than a ute (dunno what you yanks call a trailer over there, i think you call a trailer what we call a caravan) but i'm talking just a steel tray on a axle
  13. I bet that 60' time was a lot quicker! Nice wheelie... This Zed car is legendary...
  14. Man i love that in-car vid.... Hope no kiwi coppers are Z fans! Does that mean approx torque at tailshaft is ; torque at dyno roller divided by final drive ratio? seeing that the torque is multiplied by the gear reduction. I suppose you were in top gear 1:1 in T400?
  15. Fark man that is one Hot 240Z! What rods and pistons you use with your RB30's? Do you manage to find RB26DETT heads out of Japan or do you buy the whole motor and just use the head? Do you keep the stocky VL oil pump or upgrade? Turbo or NA RB30 block? Sorry about all the questions - but you are the man! Your Zed is the same year and colour as mine but that is where it stops! Cant wait for the full load dyno vids and the first pass. Awesome
