75 280z Cooling and Engine Questions
Zmanj87 replied to Zmanj87's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
Ya if its a bad Temp Sensor I'm just gonna get the Japanese OEM one Courtesy Nissan Sells. I did the Temp check and the Needle was in the middle and the Thermometer was reading 181 at Idle BluDestiny are you part of the CF Z club that meets up in Taveras? I'm looking for local Z people to meet up with and get advice and maybe some help on doing the Valve Adjustment and timing chain =) -
So I just recently replaced both Radiator hose and the thermostat because I figured it should be done since the car has about 193000 miles on it. Before I did it the car after being warmed up the sensor would read it being a little bit over the middle. So after the flush and replacement it still was reading out the same. So I drove it around for a hour today its about 85-90 degrees out today the the Sensor was moving up and down when I was going about 25-30 it and at Idle it would get pretty close to 250 or just nearly on it. But when I was going faster and getting some air flow going it would drop down towards the middle. I'm letting it cool down and then I'm going to check the Radiator Temp. after it warms up again and see if it reads about 180 I guess is the area you want to be in. Also I another thing on my list to do is a valve adjustment which might help the cooling problem as well. Second thing is towards the end of my ride if I were to brake hard or just idle the car would just shut off. I would have to start it back up and it would Idle pretty rough or just die unless I kept my foot on the gas peddle a bit to keep it Reved. I've cleaned the AFM and Throttle Body and also put on new OEM Filter to AFM and AFM to TB boots on. Any idea why this would be doing this? I adjusted the idle again and it idles at about 850rpms after it warms up.. Thanks to whoever reply's and I'll update on the Temp read out

I got the splash guard off but im having trouble finding the second drain plug on the engine block -
Just curious if it's only accessible under the splash guard..Reason being is the bolt heads are breaking off when I'm trying to remove it and I got pb blaster soaking on them just wondering if there was another way of getting to them?

Was just curious and doing some research and decided to buy ES 7.18102 HyperFlex Master Kit . Tho I was reading on the zcar forum that people do rubber bushing on the steering column and or just do urethane in the front and rubber in the rear? Just curious what the benefits were to doing it this way. Or if this was common thing to do rather then doing full urethane all around.

So I'm going to be replacing the stock suspension on my Z with 4 Tokico Blues struts and springs. I'm also buying a energy suspension completr bushing kit as well. I'm just wondering if I should replace anything else that deals with the suspension while I have it all apart ?

I paid 3.6k for my 75 280z here in Orlando back in October. Mine has some rust issues but pretty clean paint and interior had to replace the AFM plug. If you end up picking it up pm me and maybe we can help each other out -
Just curious because I'm not seeing on and to my knowledge its suppose to be in front of the radiator on the passenger side correct? I think read that some of the older Zs didn't come with on and it just has a hose that drains access on the ground correct? Also I want to do a flush of the coolant and was looking through the FSM and it says to remove the drain plug on the side of the cylinder block and set the heater system control valve to open? My question is wheres the drain plug on the block located and system control valve would that be switching the heater to on the on position in the car?

well at about 1000 rpm when I'm idling the gauge is at half while driving it the needle is at about 3/4 of the gauge. Oil I used was Castrol GTX 10-30 tho does anyone recommend using a different grade? I live in Orlando,FL in my newer car's I use 10-40 since it doesnt get that cold here. I was thinking of doing that for this car but I did research in the forms and everyone seem to say stick with just a 10-30. I would use a thinner oil tho the seals on this engine are 30+ years old and would think it would just leak =/
-
Just curious if that's ok with the car after it warms up its about 40-50lb idle but while its running it get's closer to 70-80lb.. I replaced the oil with a QT of the lucas and 4 Qts of Castrol gtx 10-30. I'm guessing the higher pressure is from the Lucas since how thick the stuff is?? More worried if the car will be ok to drive daily or does the Oil Pump be replaced or should I just stick with just 5qts standard oil?

Hmm ill post a pic of the reads lol I know maybe I did read it wrong
-
Ya ill try but the meter is reading fine. I tried on my other car and the battery read 12.7
-
Also I did check to see if my meter was the problem and it was fine
-
So I have a 75 280z and already had some issues with the battery and I know I need to replace. So I wanted to change my oil on the car and wanted to turn it on to warm up the oil... The car didn't turn on so I figured well I guess its time for a new battery but I wanted to see what the charge was on the battery...I go to check it and its reading 61.1!? So I'm wondering is there something drawling on this battery while the cars off or is this battery done for?
-
Update: So I redid the wiring and actually used the Wiregraph and also realized the Pin number are actually on the wire harness... and she started up and ran fine!! Took it around the block a couple times and had no problems in different gears! Thanks again for everyone help with this problem and I'm sure I'll be back with more questions!
-
So I got the battery backed fully charged and put it back in the Z and it cranked over! Tho I do need to replace since the test on it came back marginal. But she running fine for now thanks again for the help!
