You also may want to check with your local performance transmission shops. We have a couple of them here who carry, on hand, several cores that they will rebuild to your application. One local shop quoted me $1200 including higher stall converter, set up for maximum performance for my ZX/sbc application.

I agree with you 100%. I guess my feeble attempt to explain myself was not clear. In a light car with <400hp, wouldn't the added weight be a disadvantage as well as the 4L80E be overkill, compared to the 200-4R?
btw, Grumpy, did you ever use that driveshaft?
-
The only problem I could see with the 4L80E is the fit in the Datsun trans tunnel. I believe the tunnel would require much 10lb. sledge customization.
I presently have a broken 700R4 in my car. I am seriously looking at the 200-4R. A local trans shop said they would build a 200 set up specifically for my application. Since there are many Buick GN's running awsome numbers with the 200-4R, it should easily handle what I have.

... and if memory serves me correctly, an even stranger rear suspension (none).

I have a 355 sbc with a 510/305 cam. I am running a 600DP with mech. secondaries and have had no problems.

My cousin is building a "Rat Rod". It's a 49 Ford F-1 cab, hood, and grill (no front fenders) mounted low on a late sixties chevy half ton pickup chassis, with a late model S-10 box on back. It is powered by a 351 Cleveland Ford with a C-6 auto trans. It sounds strange, but it looks good.

Actually, to go from the 4L60E to the T56 you would have to lengthen the driveshaft. The 4L60E is longer than the T56.
"shortbed454 wrote: the length on the 4l60e is 30 3/4 and the length on the t56 is 26.37 both have the same spline count. hope this will help you."

I also bought those same headers for my ZX. I bought for the passenger side, as the driver side needs to be custom to clear the steering box. Passenger side fits perfect.
-
When I put it in gear, I better have my foot on the brakes. as the car wants to jump forward. I've been told, with a lighter car, the stall will be lower than advertised.

I am, by far, no expert. All I can tell you is my similar setup and how it works. My 79 has a 350 +.030, 9.5 comp., a little more cam, Performer intake with a 1" spacer, Holley double pump, 700R4, R200 w/ 390:1. I have a Bowtie Overdrive 2200 rpm stall converter. I wish I had a higher stall (@2600 to 2800) converter as it still has quite a load when it's in gear. I hope this helps.

Motor mounts for the ZX are simple. Just follow the JTR manual dimensions without the setback plates. Just remember to add the thickness of the setback plates to the spacers thickness. Also use the same Chevy truck motor mounts as in the JTR Manual. Here are my mounts.

The Mini sure brings back memories.

That happens by my house all the time. At least once a month I have to navigate around cows in the road. So far I've been luckier than those guys, though... ... no contact.

I fabricated mine. This is in a ZX, but I used the same concept without the setback plates.

My best story was over before it started. I was sitting at a light on M37 and a fully riced out Honduh pulls up next to me. This Honduh had everything, Full groung effects, 18" wheels, gauges galore, a "fartcan" muffler, wild graphics paint, triple tiered wing, and many many stickers. Well, young bozo in the Honduh starts revving, so I can hear his turbo. He keeps revving way too long. I just sat there chuckling. When he finishes, I just give my throttle a quick blip to about 5k. Young Bozo hears the sound of very slightly muffled American muscle and shakes his head "NO". When the light turns green, I'm way down the road before Honduh guy starts to move through the intersection.

Listen to what Rototiller says. The GM mounts dampen transfer of engine vibrations. By design they also do not allow much movement of the engine either.

There used to be a kit car company that sold a fiberglass replica Mini Cooper that used a Hyabusa for power. How's 800lbs. and 190hp. sound? It was called the Ninja Mini. I'm sure they are no longer in business, though.

Several years ago, I was privilaged enough to ride on the maiden voyage for a 38ft cigarette boat that just had two British Lycoming jet turbines from Huey helicopters installed. On Lake Michigan, at 75% throttle, we were doing 110mph in 1' to 1 1/2' seas.

I have owned both a S30 and a S130. Of the two, the S30 was faster (both have 355 sbc) but I prefer driving the S130 I presently own because of the creature comforts (I'm getting soft in my advanced age). As for weight, my 79 ZX is only 69 pounds heavier than my 77 Z was. I believe that is due to the 700R4 (ZX) vs the TH350 (Z).

How about getting a friendly competition going.

Here is my ZX.

My favorite is the McLaren F-1 forum - Some punk kid in a F-16 tried to race me.

I went through the whole disability documentation thing when I got out of the Army many years ago (back injury), so we are aware of what is involved and needed.
Chris is now assigned to the Construction Shop on base at Camp LeJeune, or as he calls it "the Marine Engineers retirement home".

Mike, my son's back on leave (Camp LeJeune doctors approved convelescent leave), his Batallion Commander finally sent him back to camp LeJeune, circomventing the medical, basically he just cancelled his temporary duty assignment to Iraq. For over a month his commander was trying to send him back on a medical, that is why no new equipment was issued, but every Sunday, when he got to the Bagdad Hospital with his new orders, this doctor would tear them up and send him back to Al Asad airbase. The problem was he had to wait for a flight back, so usually he didn't get back to Al Asad until Thursday evening. Then his commander would start the whole process over.
What really upsets me is that this doctor was going to send my son back to active duty with only 172/20 vision in one eye and limited mobility/use of one arm... instead of the needed surgery to his eye to correct the damage and the proper time to let his broken elbow heal.
My son has not been given a medical discharged as, with the proper care and treatment he should regain full or close to full capacities. Besides, his four years of active duty is finished in June.

I used a 94 Camaro shifter with my 700R4. It has the neutral safety switch and the backup switch incorperated.
