  1. I like the bed liner idea. I need paint on my 75 280. I don't have alot of money, i not good at preping perfict body pannels. I was thinking about doing the $50 rusto roll on job, or a flat black temporary paint job,and now i'm thinking about this bedliner idea. it just looks tuff, like a rat rod or something. I'm not all about the shiny paint and chrome. i like diving my car fast. I'd do it. sorry about the spelling
  2. My car does this too. I'm trying to fix it but i don't know what to insulate may fuel rails with. i also think it could be the fuel pressure regulator. any thoughts?
  3. Sorry it's not what i'm looking for. I'm really looking for one with new floor pans and mabye for some chasis renforcements. It's hard to tell if there's actualy rust until you rip up the sound deadening on the floor. thanks though
  4. I want to by a 280z shell that has NO rust. New floor pans, frame rails and and the body work all done. I don't care about the paint as long as it has a coat of primer. I'd like if it had some reinforcements or a cage in it. I'm trying to build a budget street/track car but i don't have the skills or place to do all the metal and body work on the car I'm driving.
  5. i also drilled some drainage holes in the bottom of the frame rails. and when i drilled the driver side frame rail that i had Finnish up a couple days before. a bunch of water drained out. i don't know where it came from because i tried to seal up all the seams before i welded it on.
  6. so i finally finished up a couple days ago and i had to weld another wedge piece of washing machine in where there were the big gap was but it still looks alright. i drove my car around the block once i got it of stands and i could feel such a difference in how much stiffer my car was. even though i was only going about 20 mph when i went over speed bumps and up my driveway it felt so much different.
  7. I'm thinking about putting in a pice of metal like this but it still wont be that strong because it's just washing machine metal.
  8. I kind of ran into a big problem just now with my passenger side frame rail. As you can see the floor pan has a curve to were the inside part of the frame is much taller than the outside. when i fit the bad dog up under there it fis up real nick on the outside but there is a huge gap on the inside. and then were the tale end of the frame rail fits up there is a huge gap. outside fits up real nice as you can see the inside and the tale end of the frame don't fit up quite so well. Has anyone who's done this before on a 280z ran into this problem and how the f#*k do i fix this problem?
  9. so early today i finally got one rail on. the welds arn't perfect but it's stuck on there pretty darn good. Now I'm working on the other side i had to patch up some rust holes on the other side with some more washing machine metal. now i official have a hybrid z, part car, part washing machine.
  10. To anyone who's ever done this on a 280z before i was wondering if i should drill a couple of hole in the bottom of the frame rails for drainage reasons. i tried to seal the hell out of the inside of the old frame rails to prevent moisture from getting in there but the original frame rails had some drain holes in them so i was thinking i should do the same with these.
  11. yeah a tip for you guy who are going to do this. paint the underside of the frame rails with high heat paint because as we were welding, a lot of smoke was coming out from under the frame rails and i'm pretty sure it was the primer burning of from the heat.
  12. We used a floor jack to push the bad dog up agaist the floor pan good and we got this side mostly welded up today before it got dark but it's not quited done. i still have alot of prep to do on the otherside but i'll keep yall updated on my progress. check out my sweet fort made today to protect us from the 95 degree sun
  13. i also welded up the inside of the framerail seams for extra strangth. i painted the inside of the frame rails with rusto spray paint and the silver paint on the out side is weld-though primer.
  14. Keep in mind i have no experience with metal work and for welding I've hired me good friend who just bought a bid miller mig welder. he's not really a profetional or anything but we're doing are best. I went and got some scrap metal from an broken washing machine and i had to cut out a maxi pad shaped peice of metal with my angle gringer and a cut off wheel. so now it seems like my car is part washing machine. view from the inside
  15. Then after i started cutting out the frame rail i start to find rust hole under them. The metal under there was too thin to weld to so i had to find so scrap metal to patch it up.
  16. i started cutting out i obvious rust holes in the bottom of the frame rails but then i'd stick my hand in the open part of the frame rail and the was more rust under there so i kept cutting untill i cut the whole bottom of the frame rails out. i left the sides and just cleaned of the rust and paint ith my grinder.
  17. So i ordered me some frame rails the other week for my car. i thought it wouldn't be that difficult it install them but i keep running in to more rust and problems i didn't expect. I work form 5 to 11 pm almost every day so I've been doing a little work at a time when i can and i'm now about a week into the project and i haven't even got on frame rail on yet.
  18. i'm trying to figure out how to fix this on my car buy my self. my friend's got a mig welder, should i cut a peice out of another car and weld it in there or try to fab it up out of new metal. oh yeah and i have no expereance with metal work. it a little rusted inside the frame rails and the metal inder there too.
  19. I finaly did mine. It wasn't as good at those. and it took me a while but it looks good enough for my car.
  20. damn, those look good. i've started to clean the corrosion of with some steal wool. you think if i finnish with some 0000 steal wool and some kind of aluminum polish compound it could look almost that good?
  21. Hey, don't make fun of me, i'm dislecsic. ha ha. Anyway here's the valve cover i want to polish. Does anyone know the best polish to use? some kind of aluminum polish?
  22. do you just shine it up or do you have to chrome plate it or somthing? it aluminum right? that dosn't useualy shine like that dose it?
  23. how do i make my valve cover shine.
  24. i have a VG30DET and the trans to go with it that i pulled out of my 88 Z31 300zx i wrecked. i know they'er hard to fit in a S30. but i might be able to get my hands on a 280zx and i was wondering if anyone"s tryed to swap a VG into an S130 before. i woulden't be able to make motor mounts my self but mabye i can desighn some and have someone weld it up for me. i work on my own cars and every thing but i'm not a profetional mechanic or anything and i can't really fabricate stuff but because i don't have the special tool or exsperiance. i could probibly do the swap of the motor fits in the engine bay with out any modifications besides the motor mounts but if there's alot of other stuff involve i might as well forget it.
