  1. Unfortunately I don't. The ones I have are what is being identified as the "early" high profile or "bubbled" version. I would have thought it odd for datsun/Nissan to retool to a later version absent some fundamental design change and the production years and transitions in from the 240-260-280 would make it odd they would spend the money to retool a low profile version. Unfortunately I don't have the answer to your questions. However, my engine work is being done by someone who would know aS he built nissansdatsun race cars for years....I'll ask him perhaps next week when I see him. The bottom line though is if there is enough intereat in the low profile, aftermarket or not, I'll get the buck made but I'd need to know soon.

Opz, I see you joined a week ago, tell us about your zcar.
  3. Question: was there a difference in the trim ring dimensions (width between the early and later versions)? I think polished aluminum will better than either but if one had more depth or width I can make that adjustment now. Anyone know?
  4. I am about to make a custom air dam from aluminum. Ive sketched it out and will incorporate the headlight buckets (keep original size/dimensions), bumper (240z style), and lower air dam but keep it all with the lines of the car so it does not look aftermarket or afterthought. I can have the design made of fiberglass significantly cheaper, however, the aluminum air dam (Should I go that route) would serve as the chuck for fiberglassing the models if anyone else were interested in a custom dam. I have posted the quarter emblem/logo I came up with in another thread.... http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/104678-v8-scarab-registrationnumberinglogos/page-2. Before I get started, has anyone done this already? I found links to the MSA and other aftermarket air dams but wanted to see if anyone had come up with something more unique but reproduceable?
  5. My apologies, wasn't implying you were....hard to convey tone and context in these forums.....Actually your link clarifies the bubbled vs low profile comments....thanks for the info, kind regards, charles
  6. Mine are with the group making the chucks but they are the "bubbled" or high profile set. I have offered to anyone with the low profile set if they are willing to submit them to have the chucks made to reproduce them Id send back the originals with a set of the reproduction sets free of charge.

Thanks and it wasn't bad at all in terms of price....its all relative. The donor seats drive the price and i got lucky with the originals....the Recaro Ortho C seats were common in AMGs and Porsche 911s in the 1970s....there are much more expensive seats these days. These just have a cool look (in my opinion) but they arent as expensive as they look, glad you like them though and response is the effect we all hope for . Good luck!
  8. Also, what you have pointed out has been pionted out early in this thread and referred to as high profile or bubbled and low profile......seems to be more interest in the high profile or bubbled. I have offered, and would be more than happy to offer both sets if someone would be willing to part with their low profile set. If anyone is I will have the set returned in tact with a free matching set of the first run from the chucks that are made. if you have a set of the low profile and are interested please let me know.....
  9. Regardless of early or late, I am having chucks made, and, the trim ring options are polished solid aluminum (Will be posting pics of the first set this week), fiberglass, and true carbon fiber. I haven't had any fitment issues with the set I have and if there were any fitment issues they can be easily corrected with the chucks being made. Please also keep in mind I am having these professionally made, not in my garage, but by professional CNC machine shops and fabrication shops. Not a hack job.....
  10. Okay I agree and they will be of high quality. The tooling equipment and chucks that need to be made for these are where most of your expense is Incurred. What's even more difficult is to find people willing to even take on this type of work. It wasn't a fun process but I've managed to get all the pieces together and we should be able to start enjoying the new products very soon!
  11. We will have a lot of choices in color of the lenses and I planned to make them a little more stout...the trim rings should be neat in true carbon fiber and fiberglass to paint to match the car but personally I'm excited about the polished aluminum. I do not have a low profile lens so if anyone does and wants lens options in low profile pm me a number and perhaps we can figure out how to get those offered as well...
  12. Good idea, I'll keep em here until the first run...
  13. They will be top shelf...I'm doing my best to keep costs as low as possible! I can say putting the set I have on my 260z I can see why everyone wants these!
  14. I confirmed a few things. 1). I can in fact get the trim rings in carbon fiber or fiberglass and polished aluminum as one continuous band same as OEM trim rings. 2). I do in fact have the "bubbled" or high profile lenses and can have those remade. I will have pricing by end of next week and a set of poliahed aluminum trim rings...very exciting!
  15. I was aware there were two types but havent seen the low offset pair. From those images it would appear I have the high offset or bubbled. If you have a tape measure you can lay across the bubbled and take a pic of that would allow me to be 100pct certain but from the images I'm very confident I have the high offset. Also, If you have a set of the low offset you'd be willing to loan for a mold we could offer both high and low offset if there's enough interest. It's not cheap to make these molds and if the trim rings are different we'd obviously need to have the programming done on those. I'm a big fan of polished aluminum and sought out the programming and mold for that purpose with regard to the trim ring
  16. Correction: "I suspect the person you sent them to (headlight covers) COULD NOT vacuum.
  17. Understood. They can be made by one of three methods, plaster mold, wood tooling or aluminum. When you vacuum mold, which to mirror the contour of the standard covers you must use a vacuum, it involves an aluminum mold. The programming to cut the mold is pricey in and of itself. I suspect the person you sent it to could vacuum. I have the jdm standard headlight covers and trim ring (rare I know) and I am 100pct certain I can reproduce. As I said we need a minim of twenty sets. Drew, what's within "reason" in your opinion? I'm not looking to make money off the covers just make them available. The more the better... I can reproduce the trim ring in polished aluminum. And, you were sat audited with the jdm oem fit these will be satisfactory.
  18. Marc, Do you have molds for the lenses for the 240/260/280 stock headlight buckets/covers?

Have them custom made...find a quality local shop and they can put something together. I've attached some pics of mine for my 2+2. Like anything else in life you will get exactly what you pay for....
  20. I have managed to secure a set of the elusive JDM/OEM Style Headlight Covers for the 240, 260, and 280z. You may have seen them on ebay or other places for sale between 800-1200 dollars. I can have the chrome trim ring reproduced in carbon fiber or fiberglass and the plastic lenses in tinted, colored, or clear plastic lenses. I don't know what the cost would be just yet but don't want to pursue any further absent at least twenty sets or that level of interest. Is anyone interested? I understand the fiberglass could be painted to resemble chrome? Also, there is a possibility the chrome (metal) could be reproduced, however, that would be a little more costly than the fiberglass or carbon fiber. Please let me know if there is any interest And I'll pursue.
  21. If you can snag a set the recaros are a great fit and someone with the right skill can make the front and back in a 2+2 look cool
  22. Yes everyone will carry an individual registration number. The questions I'd like answered as a group and to consider are at what stage of modification completion should the registration numbers be issued. The front fender emblems, about the size of a quarter are really cool and resemble the original scarab logos. The dash inset above the glove box looks great as well...had it all designed and made as a set. I've done a truckload to my zcar, suspension, engine bay, and the guy working it now built seven Winston cup cars and is currently completing the bobsled for the us bobsled team...not boasting but I'm sure others are doing things themselves and just as good or better a job. My original thought is register whenever, what do you all think? I'll have the other pics up by this coming Monday. In the meantime here are my seats.
  23. [quote name=gvincent" post="1034079" time="1356656700]Finally got around to mounting the SCARAB decals on the left and right front fenders, I removed the 280Z emblem and put the SCARAB decal where the emblem was. I got around to donating again so I am uploading4 pictures. Cjc send me the prototype pictures and I will upload them for you. I would really like to see this Idea move forward and think it is a great idea. ZCON 2013 is in New England this August and I will be there showing and working the convention as a member of the ZCCNE Please try and make the Z car National convention this year in beautiful New England. 24. Here it is minus the stainless mesh backing. I can get a set made fairly inexpensive since the coding is done. What do you guys think?
