  1. I was pretty sure they weren't Enkeis, aren't theirs two-piece? Even so there's a noticible seam on the Enkeis that mine don't have. And haha, no I'll stick with just having these. Plus I can't afford anything really right now xP I assume I should be able to find a logo or manufacturer name on the inside of the rim or something?
  2. Thanks, I'll keep that one in mind. I'd just rather try and find one in town first. But thanks
  3. ^I'd like to hear about it too, I have a friend who bought his L28 240z from Alex personally and I wanted to see if I could get in touch with him
  4. I'm looking for a good condition 5 speed in the San Diego area. Or if anyone knows any yards/shops I can look at to find one. Havent had much luck at Pick Your Part down here I would appreciate the help. I can even trade/partial trade my 4 speed for it. It shifts wonderfully the shifter bushings are just funky, they actually don't really affect the shifting much though. Thanks
  5. Where can I find that? I tried looking for it but I can't seem to find it...
  6. So my Z is an early 260z with an L24 and a 4 speed. It also has no A/C (had it originally) and the rear bumper was deleted. It also seems to have had the rear muffler (?) cut out and just a piece of pipe welded in for the last couple feet of the exhaust. Also there is no smog anything on the car as well. My question is this: what kind of weight reduction would these factors give me? I know the bumper would've weighed some 20lbs~, what about the A/C components? I think most of the venting under the dash is still there and the controls are there, but the only things in the engine bay are the engine and brake components, so no compressor or anything. And then I'd guess the bit of exhaust would only be a couple pounds. Any thoughts on the estimated numbers for weight loss? I searched and can't find any solid numbers
  7. Thanks Estrada, it'd be real sweet if these were Enkeis as opposed to some cheap knockoffs haha I'll see if I can find any stamps on the wheels today. The only thing is with that chart the #32 is a five lug, but maybe it was available in four as well? And my wheels don't have any center caps on anything so I will check for the stamps. Edit: I actually highly doubt them being Enkeis just comparing the two pictures... mine aren't gold in the center and definitely aren't two-piece. I'll still check what they are though
  8. ^yeah pretty much the was I was thinking about it. In the meantime an L28et should be doable by about this time next year or maybe even sooner...
  9. Oh yeah I know it's simple. It's just I don't have access to things like a lift so it's just beyond my capability right this second. And I had been told ^those over the phone, but when I went it to see where they were inspecting on the actual car and whatnot they also told me exactly what the estimates were for. For example the $165 for spark plugs/wires actually includes tuning the carbs fully and all that. I don't have like a uni-sync so again that's just beyond my present capability right now. And the wiring is pretty jacked up and quite dangerous actually so I'd rather have a professional tackle THAT one. The main thing about having a shop do a lot of this is that I don't have a place to work on it myself yet and like I said I don't have all the equipment and such either. And they said the brakes and suspension aren't very pressing, they'll just need to be done soon.
  10. Well I was running some more numbers and it wasn't TWICE what I was hoping it could be done for, but yeah I just can't afford it yet. But I might br able to in a few years. It'll be for the long run too
  11. Well it's just since most RB25s on like Ebay and importer sites come with the stock tranny it would be easier to just leave that on there. Of course, this will all have to wait kind of a while... I just realize that I don't make quite enough for this swap just yet. Maybe in a few years... although I might be able to do an L28 swap fairly soon.
  12. Udpate: so I took the car in for an inspection and they said it needs (with their price quotes): -new alternator -$158 -new battery (fried/drained from bad alt.?) - not sure yet, might be able to get a free one on warranty -spark plugs and wires -$165 -new front rotors and pads -$299 -new rear shoes and 'something about drums' ? -$165 -new front struts and shocks - $925 (?) I just feel like these quotes are a little high... keep in mind though these are all for individual jobs I think so if I have them do a couple at a time it shouldn't be quite as much. But when I was driving it around the block a few times (fairly spiritedly...) the brakes and suspension felt fine, certainly no less confidence-inspiring than the 93 Accord I daily drive (215K and counting... she refuses to give up haha). I'm going to go down and talk with them today and see exactly what's up with it all (how much are left on the brakes, what I can leave til later, like just a couple weeks maybe) so I'll have some more info very soon. Just wanted to see what you all thought of these quotes, what I can definitely do myself, etc. Thanks
  13. I actually have a stock tie down now, just working on making it fit. It also came with the platic tray for underneath so that's good. Is there a trick to getting it to fit or do I just need the threded rod for the front side of it? Cuz it kind of bends up away from the battery instead of hugging around it. I'll see if I can post a picture of it soonish, I just hadn't gotten to spend much time messing with it lately
  14. Yeah I definitely love the way they look they put a good stance on the car, and thanks Domzs Edit: yeah I looked up the Outlaws and they were too different to be them. Plus they seem a little cheaper anyway haha
  15. These were on the car when I bought it. Anybody know what they are?
  16. Thanks, I was also just thinking about things like the clutch and throttle. Are they difficult to adapt to the s30 chasis? I know you can buy like custom throttle cable setups that pretty much just bolt in, but I haven't seen anyone mention the clutch.
  17. And yeah, I do need to get out more Hopefully driving my Z will help change that ...
  18. I know Mckinney is up there but like you said it is past the county line. And I guess what I meant was there's hardly anyone in my area of San Diego and if they do have them I haven't seem them around. I don't even really see many s30's around. Of course with my luck it could just be me, last week my friend stumbled upon some private car meet consisting of a few GT40s, some Shelbys (inclusing like 10+ original Cobras, several signed by Shelby), and other crazy stuff. This kind of thing happens to him all the time And what I had seen with ZCCSD was mostly older owners (although I understand the majority of people my age don't tend to drive 40 year old two seater sports cars), I would like to see how many like college-age people have Z's around me. Anyone from East County SD?
  19. NewZed - actually since it is an early 260z the L26 it should have would've had flat top pistons and the conpression would have gone from 8.3:1 to 9.66:1. Which yes I would quantify as "quite a bit" because it is. It would at the very least bring it past even the UK spec L26 at least a little bit. And the RB25 swap is hardly a me-too... there's no one in my area at all that has one in anything so it'd be quite unique... and I'm not just jumping on a bandwagon, I've done quite a bit of research and I've weighed it against things like an L28ET swap and for not that much more money it would have quite a lot more power potential. Not to mention be a bit more reliable and even economical. And you can't even accuse me of trying to be a GTR or something because they weren't in the GTR. And they didn't mention it once in the Fast and the Furious either...
  20. Yeah, I was a little disappointed when I realized it was an L24 because if it were an L26 the E31 would've bumped performance quite a bit. But it also allows me more freedom to do whatever engine-wise since it's already been swapped before. RB25 maybe...? $3500 for turn-key stock engine, tranny, wiring, ecu, etc. 275 hp in a ~2400lb rwd car... sounds fun to me hahaha
  21. So I've been considering swapping an RB25 turbo into my 260z. I've already done a lot of research but I had a couple questions. 1) I know that engine and transmission mounts will be required, but is it worth spending $700+ for kits like the ones from McKinney or would it be worth having some custom ones made if I might be able to get a bit of a deal somewhere local for me? 2) I also know a drive shaft is required, but I have seen people just shortening the stock one instead of getting a custom one made. Will this work? It seems like it would certainly be a lot easier and cheaper than getting a custom one made. Also I wouldn't be looking for like 600+ hp initially or anything at all. Most likely just close to a stock RB25 + maybe exhaust and some tuning upgrades to start. One more thing: would the stock 260z rear hold up to a stock RB25? If not, what would be the best option there?
  22. Tony - the car is a real 260z, VIN starts with RLS30 and everything. Has two fuel pumps, even says 260z on the dash. I'm kinda over it being a swapped L24 at this point, at least it still has the E31. And I've looked over like 95% of the car that i can get at without having it up on a lift or taking all the interior out. (I have crawled under it and looked as extensively as I could, I even took a few looks while it was on the trailer). Everything seems to be there it's just the engine was swapped. Mechanically everything seems to be there, the AC is gone and there are the odd wiring job issues but nothing too major it seems. Zman04 - I am from the US actually, born and raised sunny San Diego haha. And I get what you were trying to say about the heads. The E31 was the only one offered in the US from those, the E30 head and L20ET were never available on anything here as far as I know. I heard there were only about 10,000 E31s ever manufactured, is that correct?
  23. I hadn't realized I didn't put it specifically (I'm on a couple other forums as well so I got a little jumbled as to what I had posted where) it is a 74 model year 260z (built 9/73) at least according to the VIN, but the engine had been swapped at some point to an L24. Whether or not the E31 was the original head on this block I am not sure. I have quite a bit of research, and I had never found anything very conclusive as to what the E31 is actually CAPABLE of. As mentioned above^ people just say it's "good" or "desirable" I know that but apart from the good quench what else is so good about it?
  24. Another update: turns out the engine is actually an L24... which is disappointing, but not too bad since it does have the E31. Still, I'm happy: I finally have a Z all to myself hehehe...
