  1. I found 2 other Z´s here in the North. He says on the phone they are very solid and rust free, imported from usa and never welded on it before. What u guys think? http://www.speurders.nl/overzicht/autos/datsun-260-z-bj-1974-44279494.html?q=datsun
  2. Use a good Speedglas with not to dark lens, so you can see what you are doing. For the rest: Fall and stand up, everybody have to learn.
  3. Impressive indeed, I'm sure there's more to get from that 3 liter Nissan motor.
  4. It's not my car, I had a similiar engine in the past but in a opel corsa. The gearboxes for the engines are original: For the 16V: F20 5-speed manual For the 16VT: F28 6-speed manual, also AWD versions. The ratio's I have no idea! Sometimes the also bolt gearboxes from smaller engines, because the have close-ratio, lower top speed, more pulling. But they are less strong than the F20/28
  5. The Turbo block picture, I think they just painted it. It should by cast-iron. Anyhow there are also Ecotec's but that are the later versions. Ass from Wiki: The naturally-aspirated 16-valve version of the 2.0 L— 1998 cc (121.9 cu in) — cast iron block engine is the successor to the OHC-engines and a predecessor to the 16-valve Ecotec-line of engines.
  6. Yes, they ask alot of money! That's why i'm looking is there any other. With Hofman I saw as well, but it's to much money for the car in that condition. Seems in other country's in Europe they are almost not to find?
  7. I think it's what u are used to do! Anyway i don't see problems with it.
  8. The engine is also in cars under the Chevrolet name.
  9. I don't see your Americans use these engines much, mostly the Japs. But the can make reliable horsepower! And are very indestructable, and have history in auto-sport. I have used the 16 Valve non-turbo version myself, with a 5 speed manual. And it pushed the car weighing 1070 kg easily to 250 km/h, with just 200 horsepower. There are excellent mid-engines for Z's. There are 2 versions: The 2 Litre 16 Valve, with 5 speed manual ( Can also put 6 speed manual ) 150 BHP, 110 KW, Boring X Stroke both 86.0 The 2 Litre 16 Valve Turbo, with 6 speed manual 204 BHP
  10. I don't know what you Americans are up with the pedal use? Here we control with the fingertip on the tourch. ( Picture ) But maybe there's both, I don't know, I'm used using this one. It isn't really more difficult than MIG ( Co2 ) welding. Both process need concentration and a steady hand. For the TIG make sure the needle is not to sharp, and stitch out half the diameter of the round. The Amps you can check by testing, how's the melting bed or puddle. Don't hit the object with the needle. Use a light glass on the welding cap, not to dark! But that a personal thing. It's like they say a continous process: make a melting bed and than add the filling material, than move forward and make a now melting bed and add.. and keep doing the same. While welding keep focus on the size of the melting bed and how much filling material you put, so when done, the weld will look nice and smooth. Don't hold the torch to much on one spot, but try to move a bit back and forward, and keep the filling material close to the torch while welding. Good luck.
  11. Hey, Can anyone help me to find a used 240Z close to The Netherlands or Germany? Please contact me by e-mail: bart_hoedemaker@hotmail.com or call me directly: +31617808862 Thanks!
  12. Would be nice to see the finished car
  13. Well JSM, your dad is right, cold everything has collected in the pan, if warm 1/10 is still in the engine, as a fillm, or at least more than cold. Offcourse you can never get all the old oil out of the engine. But you can use an engine cleaner fuid if you want.
  14. The Viper V10 engine is based on a cast iron truck engine... Lamborghini designed it.
  15. Yeah, I saw it, and some American guy also placed the 27 liter Merlin in a Chevy 55. I think id would be awsome to ride, the Griffon the 10 liter more version would be deadly i think . Well for your Americans it's easier because you don't have much rules for cars to go on the road or period checks. It is here in Europe. Like when my 240Z is done, It needs goverment check before going on the road. So such crazy engine ideas would be impossible here... I often go to tractorpulls and have known the now death Jan van Alphen from Popeye team, he was a big enthousiast with the Alisson engines. Although I prefer Rolls Royce. I love your work, keep going..that's the way.
  16. Very nice work Chelle.. the BMW V12 engines are great. There are some here to @ the local scrapyard, I thought about planting one in to, but never happened. I'm not the much electronics expert... So your new challenge, drop in this 37 litre V12 badboy maybe? ( I think you need a hell of a diff and undercarrage to handle the torque and 2500+ hp.
  17. And my old Vauxhall with 4 cylinder 2 litre 16V engine. The thing was good for almost 250 km/h.
