  1. My car is a 78, so it originally came equipped with cats.

I've had a couple inspections where they have said, "you know technically you are supposed to have catalytic converters" but that was about it. Only a visual inspection, definitely no emission testing.

For a 72 you are definitely free and clear. All they do is make sure the lights, horn, turn signals, parking brake, and brakes work.

  2. Condolences to his friends and family. I never met John and don't know that I ever even had a direct conversation with him even over the internet, but I felt like I knew him just by reading his wealth of knowledge on here for the past 13 years I've been a member. His presence will be greatly missed. The z car community and the world has lost a great person indeed.

  3. I've been stock piling more parts than I have been installing them.

    Parts waiting to be installed:

    • Corbeau FX1 pro
    • 5 point harness
    • Speedhut Oil pressure guage
    • Speedhut Water temp gauge
    • New exhaust pipe to get the exhaust tucked a little higher.

    Parts actually installed:

    • 240z Front bumper

Soooo here is a pic with the new bumper installed...

  4. Installed one of the T3 Camber Plates.

I made rough cutouts with a drill and hole saw bit. Then followed up with a mini hacksaw and then finally a lot of filing.

    During cuttting.

Mostly completed. Need to do a little more cleaning up and then throw some paint on it.

  5. The reason for the specific years is because camaros and transams from 93-97 with the LT1 also came with a t56. The LT1 style T56 will not work on a LS1 with out modifying it. I don't know all the detailed differences, but know the input shaft is different.

Yes, the main reason for the LS1 T56 out of a 98-2002 F-body is because it positions the shifter in the correct spot.  The t56 came in everything from vipers to mustangs to aston martins, but the one you want is out of a 98-2002 f-body because no modification need to be made to the trans and because the shifter position is correct for a S30 z car.

  6. There isn't a coyote 5.0 swapped 240z that I have seen/heard of yet. You would be jumping into uncharted territory.

If you are not mechanical and are doing the swap yourself, this is probably not the route you want to take.

If you are looking for a daily driver, consider that a 2014 mustang GT is going to be wayyy more comfortable than a 40 year old datsun. Also don't expect a final weight near 2300 lbs.

See this thread for some basic discussion on the swap: http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/103409-coyote-motor-in-240z-thoughts/

  7. It is an LS1. There are several variations of the t56 transmission. The corvette had a T56 transaxle which would involve converting it to a traditional transmission that bolts to the back of the engine. It sounds like you only have the engine though.

Assuming you want a manual, the T56 you want is out of a 98-02 Camaro (Z28 or SS) or Trans Am. This is the most common manual transmission for LS1 swaps.

  8. Installed a front tow hook.

    Purchased this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DJSRSSM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I think the the threads in the the hook are 12x1.75.The part that threads into the black part of the hook was discarded. So I went to to the local hardware store and got a long 12x1.75 bolt and some 1/4 steel plate.

Cut the steel plate to size 4"x2.75" and  drilled two holes for mounting it to the stock front bumper location. Welded the bolt to the steel plate and done.

    Finished product before paint:

Hook can be oriented in any direction since it is screwed in place. I chose to have it swing left and right because it can fit in the space to the side of my grill.

I don't know how much I trust the strength of the $11 piece of red aluminum but it hopefully will handle pulls on to a tow bed should I ever need it. I may search for an all steel ring that will screw on to the same threads.

  9. Some new parts came in. As soon as it warms up in Dallas, I'll get started putting it all on.

Techno Toy Tuning Bolt in Camber Plates

Techno Toy Tuning Coilover Top Plates

    300lb/in springs

    Steering Rack Boots

Camber plates will be installed up front. Rear will get done later, but think I need to source some stock strut tubes for the rear. I may end up being too low after removing the stock isolators for the plates (struts are currently sectioned).
