The block is POR-15 Chrysler Blue Engine Block Paint. I bought the engine paint kit from http://www.porstore.com/ The exhaust manifold/downpipe/turbo compressor will be POR-20 Bright Silver. I also used a little VHT brake caliper paint for some of the parts. Cleaning thouroughly is the key.
POR stuff is awesome. Wear a mask

Thanks everyone. Keep 'em coming. This is what us TurboZ people need to develop our machines.
I will surely post pics of mine as it progresses. Right now the '83 motor is starting to look sweet on the hoist and the '76Z is starting to look like a root canal patient in a dentists waiting room.

I am doing the '83 Turbo motor swap into my '76 280Z and would like to see some photos to help me visualize. Also, what is the story with swapping the '83 Turbo ECCS system in to replace the '76 EFI. I hear that there are about 4 to 6 wires that will need to be spliced under the dash of the 280Z to make the ECCS and Turbo Motor work with the existing '76 dash harness and stuff.
I am swapping in:
ECCS module
Fuel Pump Control Module
ECCS turbo harness
Engine (bone stock '83 turbo)
AFM
Coil
Turbo Fuel Pump
Oil Cooler
Solid-State Regulated Alternator
Are there any other parts/harnesses that need to swap?
Thanks.

I bought a 1983 280ZX Turbo Automatic 2+2, 105K miles, $530, runs strong.
To put this motor into my 76Z 5speed:
1) Obtain a Turbo Flywheel
2) Obtain a Turbo Clutch
3) Trade the ZXT Automatic ECU for a ZXT 5-speed ECU.
5) Install the ZXT FI Harness/ECU in the '76.
6) Swap the fuel pumps.
7) Install ZXT Motor.
8.) Bolt and Connect.
9) Drive.
Am I wrong or missing anything?

Will my 76Z motors flywheel, clutch, and starter bolt onto the back of the 83 ZX Turbo motor?
Thanks,
Dave

Sorry if I confuse people.
My 76 280Z came with a 4-Speed Manual. I Installed a 5-Speed Manual using the bell from the 4-speed manual tranny. Now I want to put in a 280ZXT Motor from an Automatic 280ZXT with my 5-speed MT. I dont know anything about the ZXT Automatics but I doubt it's a 4-Speed Automatic. If it is, you have first dibs if and when I pick up the car!

GOOD THING I HAD THE MANUAL

...so long as the ZXT automatic crank can take a 5-speed Z flywheel, a pilot bearing, and the 5-speed bellhousing, it should work. If the Automatic ECU is N.G. for a five speed, I guess I could pick up a ZXT manual ECU somewhere. I actually have two different bell housings, that fit on my 5-speed. One is from the 5-speed trans when I got it and the other is from the original Z 4-speed that came out. To bolt up the 5-speed to the 76Z motor, I had to put the bell on from the original Z 4-speed.
It seems like the ZXT automatic motor should work in my 5-Speed Z with some minor part swapping and tweaking.
Any other "Head's Up's" ?
Thanks Much,
Dave C.

I am considering purchasing an 83ZXT, 2+2, automatic, to use as a donor for my 1976Z - 5-speed. Will the ECU out of the ZXT automatic work with my 5-speed setup. The five speed is a ZX non-turbo unit. Any other issues when converting a ZXT motor to a 5-speed application in a Z?
Thanks,
Dave C.

The turbo bug has bitten me already! WRX Stage One is my daily driver. When I drive the Z it feels like it's missing a Turbo---because it is!
I am now shopping for a ZXT car because this seems like the most straightforward method of Turbo'ing an older Z. I suppose I can even perform the rear disc conversion by having an entire ZXT at my disposal. Suggestions of lean burning, aluminum for fuel, piston holes and extra injectors made me realize that ZXT is for me.
Great Forum.....

What do you fellas think about my idea of mildly boosting my stock 76 Z with a bolt on turbo kit? The engine runs strong but has 140K miles. The mains look good (been there for the rear seal), oil pressure is good, the compression checks out good, the driveline is good.
Details of the current car can be seen:
http://www.hvmparts.com/davestoyz.html
or in Grassroots Motorsports Mag, Internet Hotrod of the Month, Dec.2002
What I hope to acheive in this step is a 240-270HP version of the same car with a T3 turbocharger, 3 inch downpipe, 2.5 inch open exhaust to a turbo muffler, matched injectors, turbo fuel pump, turbo oil pump, turbo oil pan, intercooler, stock 76 harness and ECU. The car will probably not be raced or even driven that often. Its only a weekend warrior.
Comments, suggestions, resources, (flames?), appreciated.

Let the photos speak for themselves. Next week I prep the '76 to receive this jewel. I can't wait!
