Hey Dangerdan, the car has been offered to me several times, seller was not really my kind of person. Since he told me he already worked on getting it running and now it states "cranks over" i´ll pass on this one. I also put some pictures of that one up and when i send comments from you guys to him he somewhat lost interest to sell @Tony, i guess you don´t have pictures? Maybe if your friend ships cars to the netherlands again he has a free spot in a container. (i need a reliable seller more than most of you guys since i´m new with this and its really anoying when they bail out while i try to get shipping going )

Time for an update. Thank you all for helping but i wasn´t abled to score one instead i went up Maine and enjoyed the time (always keeping one eye open). The closest i came was " my neighbor had one sitting behind his house till last year " Anyways, had a great time and i´m back to Craigslist (with a small detour called Land Rover Santana 109 6 Cylinder Diesel ) but still looking. One funny thing, car rentals didn´t have my car so i got a Cadillac CTS sports (upgraded all the way from smallest category) ......quite nice actually

i agree on that 800$ car, First ad was 1000$ and engine failures, now it´s 800 and engine good still undecided on where to go though. From the vacation aspect it would be seattle, the car aspect would say south ^^

Why a 2+2 ? Well, i´m rather large and the 2+2 has more space. I actually like the design, espeicall with a Gnose (i drove a Citroen Ds for 2 Years) and i like the longer wheelbase. Also, i need to carry more than 2 people. Why america? Well, i got an opportunity to go to a conference. If i get another conference maybe Au it will be (but shipping is higher i guess) @Bludestiny: Sonora looks awesome. Flights are on the pricy side though, but i will definitely consider this edit: Sedona, not Sonora

hahaha, my thoughts exactly (have this car bookmarked quite some time now) btw. Craigslist is now blocking non US Ip´s , i only can contact people when i use a US based Proxy. Does anybody know if non-us Emails get deleted as well (since he didn´t answer my mail)?

Sounds good, but how easy is the access? I would fly to Seattle and need public transport to go there. (i don´t know about recent times, but public transport in america seemed to be non existing ^^)

Hi, as luck has it, i´m going to a conference in New York first week of August. Afterwards, there is one week free. I´d like to know if there are places you guys can recommend, both for possible car purchase and general vacation. Since i´ll be one week in New York, i will use the time to browse Craigslist etc. Nevertheless, if somebody knows of an offer or has some ideas how to spend the second week, i would be glad. Thing is, i want to see some other parts of America as well and have -roughly one Week time (8-13.08) -go where i might find a car (ideally a 280z 2+2 ) -go where i can spend a week with possibly some nice nature and without need to get a rental car etc (so far this would be Seattle with Olympic national park) Ideas?

wow. thanks for the entertaining read. I have to second that it makes a huge difference if an engine is aimed to make 100.000 k reliably or an unknowable mileage with a bang. It´s classic design of components, you have a standard deviation of when your engine normally blows up (manufacturers test´s ) and you mulitply this with whatever you want to have in terms of "safety zone" and reduce power (or increase build quality) till your engines match this safety zone. This is more power lost than 1 PSI boost ever will produce. If you on the other hand only care about ONE engine and NO target mileage it should survive, then it´s a completely different game. and yes, the dragracing time-calculation is ok, it will just give you a MINIMAL HP, expecting no losses by friction by tires or air-drag(or you need a well known cw value with spoiler etc) and a perfectly running engine (termodynamically speaking). Basically an inertia-limited acceleration of a pointmass with the mass of the car, and every deviation from this can only be that actual HP is higher.

that looks REALLY nice. For me this fixes the odd back of the 2+2 perfectly... oh boy, getting a 2+2 AND a gnose kit will be hell (for my budget)

hmm, maybe i got my shipping company wrong, but they said they will do the whole shipping, tax and packing. They asked me for a certificate of ownership (e.g buying contract) and a title copy, with the original title travelling with the car. Like i said, i offer those guys that there will be a shipping company picking the car up and that all money will be paid at that point. Anyways, some nice person from Reno offered one, professional seller though, i will send you guys pictures. btw, has anybody recently done this?

well, at least i´m not imagining stuff.... last low was one i bought (clearly stated i would buy it, got shipping involved and called back next day for needed information) and the guy went silent for a week while selling locally despite being ok with exporting in the first place. Thing is, i have a shipping company standing by doing everything from pickup to unloading in germany. Stupid system with the checks though, no wonder nobody uses the over here ....ever. Patience, yes, i anyways enjoy the hunt more than having it sit in my driveway probably due to the first part breaking being a financial nightmare over here. Thanks guys, appreciated

wow, that was fast as TonyD told me (and yes, you are right) i should fly over and get one, but that has to wait till i get my Ph. D (thats the reason why i´m broke ), or till i find a nice conference over there (shame on me, i had the choice and took HK). Anyways, thanks! (little side note: i´m always surprised, i either meet super-nice helpful people or super xenophobic grumpy people, nothing inbetween^^)

@Nelsonian , the red one is ok i guess, the yellow one looks like it will be full of surprises (since i´m faaar away from cheap parts, this will be fun. To illustrate the matter, there is ONE 280zx door on ebay rigth now for around 400$) @ Dangerdan, it would be great getting an opinion on that car. Hello, after months of CG fun, i´m still looking for a 280z 2+2 (75 or 76 vastly prefered but non-mandatory). I want something to fix up here in germany, so it should be complete and if possible so far unrepaired (read: no botched repairs ). Seller should be ok with export, but i will organise everything with no risk for the seller! For the seller this means only handing it over to a shipping company at the doorstep. Maybe somebody got one in their backyard and remembers it right now?

TOnyD is right (do i need to add the "of course ). Thing is, since i want a 2+2 with manual if possible, when and where to fly. One with original paint pops up rather seldomly. Anyways, this will be the route as soon as i find time to do so, till then it´s harassing people by phone......

Hi, i may be a bit annoyed right now, but....how do you actually get somebody on CG to sell you a car? Already got advice from TonyD, but so far: -nobody replies to mails , ok thats understandable -nearly nobody pics up the phone (with adds being online weeks after) , as told, i could get an american skype number but if they don´t want to sell for export why trick them. -if i get some response at all, people never send just the tinyest bit of information (except one nice guy from yakima) -recently a seller made promises and all, i got shipping quotes, money ready, called back 2 days later (as communicated) and voila, nothing, doesn´t answer phone\mail\etc. but add is still online is a "sorry,sold" message really to much to ask after i got a shipping company involved ????? Honestly, now i get why ebay cars are so much more expensive, at least then you get a chance of buying one... btw, been looking since fall, contacted (or tried to) nearly every 280z 2+2 which makes sense for exporting here to germany (due to shipping costs and financial limit i need good, not fancy). So,this was just to blow off some steam, back to craigslist.....
