  1. I have been reading about this for a few weeks now. I think in general people on many forums are thinking the same thing you are. The thing that kerps bringing me back to MS is the price ( And I love the waterproof box. I have a jeep too)
  2. It's s basic thing. Most places that change oil I'll flush your radiator. You can always flush it your self with CLR. In you have a water pump, pool pump, or a fish tank pump you can hook it up and let it run with CLR. It's also so good way to clean your heater core at home.
  3. You could just tap a regular one really easy.
  4. I think if the did the 0.08 shave this usually leads to shims for the cam, maybe even the springs. If you see shims they are probably there for that reason. But since you measured .. Solves that problem
  5. I looked at your build and all your picks. It looks awesome!!! Super great! I have just be learning about the L28 and I just put my first one together, kinda practice. I'm going to build a good one soon. I found some good ideas like the l24 crank and rods with the flat tops you have .. It's kinda a high rev short stroker, I think I aquired one by luck. But you might really like that build. Also, why not go ITB with a MS vs the carb. It's about the same price if not cheaper an IMO way better. I ran carbs on two different motors, and with ethnol in the gas it makes tuning your carb a constant project....I'm not a fan. But I'm stoked for your build, it looks great. I'm excited to see more! -Luke
  6. Didn't get to the mystery motor this week, however I did get to mess with the other n42 core I had. I made it about half way. So it's a stock n24 block and head. The crank in that block was marked p3040, not a mystery . I'm tempted to bring to to get bored and some flat tops, but for now I just used the best 6 pistons and rods I had. The timing chain isn't on. One more good day I should have this together. Also, I got the abarth exhaust in. I'm a big fan of their exhausts. But I was totally bummed because the exhaust pipe is 48mm or about 1.75" inside diameter. I was thinking I was going to run it for now and add a second one when I do the p90/MS. Any thoughts on that? I'll proably end up with a fuel well cell in the process. I could run a butterfly or a waste gate to the second 1.75" exhaust pipe so it opened at a higher rpm or whatever tuned correctly.
  7. That's such an awesome pic .
  8. Super nice! Think you could do the dash
  9. Called it. I figured it out from the clues you gave ... like the cultural considerations.
  10. I just had to make the same decision. I went for the ZX na oil pan. Works great, but you need to change the pick up/sump as well as the pan. The ZX pick is longer because the drop in the oil pan is farther back. Edit: disregard the abuse to the pans, their a little beat up. It's how my z rolls .... Or ..well.. Sits in the driveway
  11. Mere, I'm really tempted to pull the motor out again to check, however it is what it is and for now will be running of the stock ECU and everything else. I'll just check again soon when I do the head/ms/5speed. I'm deffentaly interested in the Honda ft500/L24 rod combo.
  12. I was reading about using Honda FT-500 / XL-500 motorcycle pistons with L24 rods .... Sounds awesome. Really tempting build with a p90 shaved head. http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/97690-ft500-hi-comp-piston/
  13. I found this ... From this website http://www.rpmmachine.com/crankshaftkitsnissanrpm.html. ---2.6L 74-75 L26 P3040, engine #L26; 260Z ---2.8L 75-83 L28E P3040, engine #L28E; 280Z, 280ZX, 280ZX turbo They didn't have L20A but they L20B: ---2.0L 74-79 L20B U6040 510, 610, 620, 710, 200SX Also had this about the L24: ---2.4L 70-81 L24, Z24 E3141, E3142, engine #L24; 240Z ---2.4L 82-84 L24E W3140, engine #L24E; 810, Maxima w/1.770” Rods So a possible update to the list you made L20A, unknown date: 12200-E3000 <--Need to verify this, anyone know for *certain* L24 to July 1973: 12200-E3101,E3141, E3142 L26 from Aug 1973-75: 12200-P3000 L28 from Aug 1975-83: 12200-P3040 LD28, unknown date: 12201-V0790
  14. Thanks for the info . I put the enging back together last night and it's in the car sitting on the motor mounts now. I will pull this motor again at some point to put on the 5 speed, P90, and Ms. I will look at the pics I too and see the other marks. I remember it was stamped Japan and had the datsun symbol like the Pistons did, but that's all I remember seeing. It probably be next weekend before I get time to work on the datsun again.
  15. It's a keeper for sure . Might end ou as a hood ornament on my old jeep .
  16. Im guessing that's what it is. I got a chance to read the treads you posted, I think that's what it is. L24 crank and rods w/ stock l28 pistons. P79 head with a maxima cam.
  17. Right? Holding true to its name, the mystery motor
  18. The block is stamped L28. Is the maxima block stamped l28 or l24? Any recommendations on which oil pan to run. The black one is the one that was on my old motor. The blue one on the mystery motor. I know the oil pan is a tight squeze. I guess I'll use the blue one, it a little beat up, but the inside looks fine
  19. I'll take a look. It's almost ready to go in so I almost hate to pull it apart too much. The oil pan is different, however that might just be a N24 vs F54 thing ..idk.
  20. So I pulled the pan on the mystery motor. The crank says p30. Isn't that a 240 l24 crank? So this is an 83zx motor. The a cam marked K (maxima maybe or stock ZX) and a 240z crank? I'm confused. The Pistons are stamped Atusgi, which I think are stock.
  21. The mystery motor is pretty close to going in. Header and exhaust are in the mail. I decided to run the stock manifold and injectors for now. I think it will work best if I save the manifold, injectors and stuff all for the new head. That way I can put the new parts in with the right sensors for the MS and just do the Head/Manifold/injectors and fuel/ MS .. All in one swap over. Here's where I'm at, attached are some pics.
