  1. i am not sure what some one did to my car before i bought it but this doesent give the same results in my car. the '79 5spd with the matching rear diff shows about 3500rpm @ 80mph but when i drive the car that fast its turning over about 4500rpm. the only combo on that thats close is if i manually put in a 4.11 gear and 32010-N3222 factory comp transmission, the gearing is pretty close too but that cant be right. first off i am not that lucky and secondly its a 2+2 from and old geezer that acually made dentures!
  2. yea eventually the front chrome peice will be painted but i have no booth or any thing so i need to wait till things warm up, might take some of the black and the orange to the wheels too at the same time.
  3. can a cam from a pushrod A15 engine fit in the head of a L20 (probally ? i know some times they kept similar parts from one engine series to another and i am hoping this is one of them. theres an ad in craigs list for a b210 fast back for $500, looks to be in decent shape but the guy was planning to take it to bonneville (says in the ad) and says he did alot of work to the motor. says he put "the biggest cam made" in it, in the pics theres a webber and some ignition upgrades, and i see a header aswell, and the ad also says it comes with 2 extra engines (A14's) an extra transmisson and extra body parts. for $500 thats not a bad deal. i was reading some where that the a14 210's got 50 MPG
  4. i didnt think that old 70's stuff had the flat 4 in it theyre rarely in a position where i can see under the hood
  5. not sure i want to swap a 5speed for an automatic in this one but i have been looking for an 810/Maxima because i may be making alot of runs to seattle and back and el paso and back so i'll keep my eyes peeled for this transmission. i take it it can handle a bit more horses than the other transmissions?
  6. probably since you get further away from the flat 4. alrikght well i will yank one of the speaker connectors (same kind on the back of the alternator) and wire it to the maxima alternator so that way if i do have to go back the the old one i can just plop it in there. of course i need to find the right tool to pull the pulley off of both alternators.
  7. was it a hitachi alternator? my guess is its pretty much the same too, alot of the datsun/nissan cars and subaru cars from the late 70's to the early 90's have fuji heavy industries plates and share alot of the same parts like injectors, alternators ect.
  8. heres mine nothing special '79 2+2: no real mods or any thing, just some paint, the mirrors i painted and the rear bumper i painted and got rid of the chrome peice on the front, it was all scratched to hell. the last pic the plastic topper is just set on there its not bolted down or any thing s its got rusted sheetmetal from the old bumper on it still and the studs broke off this bumpers topper. minimal rust, just at the rear rorner of the rear wheel wells, interior is ok, dash is starting to go. so no mods that i know of other than "missing" cat, i installed a blaster 2 (if you can call that a mod), and the gears are really short so there may be a different rear end in it. freeway speeds (~65-70mph) are close to 4k in 5th. almost 87,000 miles at the time of posting, i have had it a year and i bought it from the 2nd owner who was a dumbass (Mr.STP) and also managed to put 62,000 miles on it in about 4 years. i have the origonal window sticker and it retailed for almost $13,000 new in Kentucky. it also has a 120Mph speedo, which i dont think i will ever go that fast because of the fact of the short gears.
  9. nothing huh? all i am wondering if how i am going to wire it up is the right way the 2 fat whites together and the blue and white/red together. i know first off some one is gonna come in and say get a GM one wire but i am on a seriously tight budget and i already have this alternator. i didnt pay any thing extra for it, i acually owned a 1987 maxima and replaced the alternator in it with one that had a lifetime warranty and been using that since, i yanked the alternator because i knew i could use it and it was replaced with a new one less than 6000 miles ago. i made good on the lifetime warranty several times so i figured it was worth saving. the bottom end in the maxima ate it self one morning and that was it, i was done trying to fix that car constantly.
  10. i dont know if all dont but my '79 does not it has or had EGR, Air Temp sensor and Catalytic converter but no O2
  11. ok i need to replace my factory installed 30 year old alt because it cant keep up any more, any load on it other than running with out accs and i barely get 12V out of it. i have a 90 amp alt out of an 87 maxima and i want to double check on the wiring so its a quick swap from the old one to the new one because my 280 is my daily. ok so out of the alternator in the car i have a white wire w/ black stripe and a yellow wire comming out of the alternator going to the connecor just behind it and after the connector it changes to a blue wire and a fatty white wire on the maxima wiring i just have a fatty white wire and a skinny white/red wire am i correct in assuming the fat white wires from the car and the maxima alternator go to each other and the blue wire from the car and the skinny white/red wire go to each other on the other side of the connector? the rest of it (bat connector) is the same, i just want to be absoutly positive they go together or as positive as i can be before i pop it in because i really hate to fix electrical.
