That looks awesome! I was going to do the same thing only on the other side of the hood. Rattle can you say, sir?

The 71 had a mechanical fuel pump only. Nissan had enough foresight to include provisions for an electric fuel pump when running the wires. The biggest issue I had was figuring out why my fuel pump wasn't getting juice. If you check the wiring diagram for the later 240Z's and you'll see that it has a 20A fuse outside of the fusebox. That is how I realized that Nissan wired the connector near the fusebox as an open circuit, waiting for you to connect the two wires, completing the circuit (and energizing your fuel pump). Ironically enough, I happened to pick up the fuel pump fuse connector at the junkyard when I was scrounging for OEM connectors. I'm glad I didn't cut that one apart for the connector!

Nissan was kind enough to run wires for you already for a pump. The fuel pump wires are green and black and are located in the passenger side of the car, near the gas tank. They are part of the fuel tank sending unit wiring harness back there. They might be taped up in the harness (mine were). Then all you have to do is connected the terminals for the fuel pump fuse which is located near the fuse box. The terminal you are looking for has the two spade connectors making sort of a capitol T in shape. Both wires are green. Run a 20A fuse, and call it a day. This is from my experience on my 2/71 Z, so it should be the same for you with your 71.

Ha! I followed this exact writeup 2 years ago when I needed to make a 220v whip. Cost me about $60 for a 20' whip. Home Depot sells 10-3 wire by the foot (just offering an alternative to buying and cutting an extension cord).

Looks like you have quite a bit of work ahead of you. Good luck.

You check out that red 280z in Rocklin?

That dash looks exactly like the one in my '73. MSA's part number is 50-2045 for that (according to my receipt). Differences between '70 (and early '71) and the later '72-'73 cars was the center console which in turn led to a different position of the cigarette lighter. As you can see on your '73, the cigarette lighter is in the dash above the hazard switch, where as with the "early" Z cars the cigarette lighter was next to the fuse box. Pulling the dashes in these cars do suck. Requires you to pull the center console, then all the screws around the window sill (and that is the easy part). I'd say glue the dash cap with the dash only dropped out of the way (not completely pulled out). Not the best picture, but this is what mine looks like (see picture attached). Mine is the blue Z on Sac's Craigslist with the V8 right now. If you want (since you are local), you can come see how mine looks before I sell it. Also, if you ever want to sell that radio, let me know.

I have an interesting Holley 390 cfm carburetor. This carburetor was designed for small engines in mind (the old Pinto/Vega 4 cylinder motors for example). It utilizes a reverse power valve which also pretty unique. Here is a link to all the info on the 6299 (I figured direct reference is better than me loosely quoting him). Holley 6299 History Carb was brand new when I bought it 8 months ago, and it has maybe 20 miles on it. I replaced both float needles, accelerator pump diaphram, as well as the power valve (#6). Both the float bowl gaskets as well as the metering block gaskets have been replaced with the Holley blue non-stick type gaskets. Comes with a box of jets (sizes: 43, 44, 45, 47, 49, 50, 51, 52, 53), power valve block off plate, and a partially used rebuild kit (I used the rebuild kit to get the carburetor back up to spec after sitting for a few months). What it needs is a reverse power valve from a 6299 rebuild kit, which can be found here. I have a normal power valve in there right now, and I don't know how well it will work (you can always use the supplied power valve block off plate). Asking $175 shipped, or $140 local. Both are OBO. ~Thanks

Sweet FJ-40 you got there!

It is for PCV. All that hose does is reroute the fumes from the crank back into the intake to be reburned.

280Z is unfortunately different. Thanks anyways!

I'm looking for the cables that connect from the heater control panel to all of their respective HVAC components under the dash. Cables with sheaths please. ~Thanks

How do you get the crap out of the spark plug hole?

Brake cleaner works great. -
PM sent, sir.

How many do you need? Let me look around and see what I can scrounge up.

I'm trying to find a good public park with provisions for a BBQ. Hopefully near the Amphitheater. Going to see Iron Maiden Sunday, and a group of us was planning on doing a bit of tailgating (unfortunately the Amphitheater does allow such tomfoolery), so I come to my favorite car forum to ask if any members know the area better than this Sacramento resident. ~Thanks

I don't own a Taurus pistol, but I knew a couple people who did. I've been out of the shooting game for a couple years now... I have never heard any outstanding things about Taurus pistols. Most comments I've heard revolve around, "They come with a lifetime warranty for a reason - you'll use it 2 or 3 times in the life of the firearm." But if it's like you said (just a Beretta rebranded under Taurus) - it should be just a fine firearm. There are a few problems that plague the Berettas though - such as: *don't quote my language here* cracking the hammer block. But I did have a buddy who shot his father's Beretta M92 and he loved the thing (swore it was one of the nicest pistols he's shot), but mind you for his 21st b-day he wound up buying a Sig 226 instead (so I don't know how great of a pistol it actually was). I was never terribly impressed with it. If you are looking at cheap used firearms, have you given Glock a look over?

Sounds like a convenient excuse for a header swap then. Thanks johnc.

I'm building a SBC powered Z for my old man, and finally got it up and running today after installing a new carb and intake manifold. First time out with the new parts and he plows through a speed bump. Attached are pictures of the damage. What are the chances of pulling the dent with a slide hammer? I'm not much of a bodyman, but I figured should be the same procedure as pulling a dent in a fender (only this time it is exhaust tubing). ~Thanks

Email sent Mike. I'll be available after 8:00 pm tonight. ~Thanks Matt

Hate to tell you, but yeah it's legit. I got the same ticket when I was attending Oregon State University - and had the same reaction as you as, "What the hell, really?" First time I've ever heard the term "Head in parking only", I thought it was a weird way of saying you can only drive through the rows one way - not no pulling through for a quick escape after a grueling 3 hour Chemistry class. Here is a picture of mine when I tried to appeal it - unfortunately to no avail.

Need help identifying light switch
Moltar replied to Moltar's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
My appologies on the oversized picture, forgot the one I uploaded wasn't the resized one. It will bolt onto a 240z, and work, but like you explicitly stated (and I inferred - my bad) you will need a different surround for it. So the consensus is that it is for a RHD Z? -
Alright this came in one of my boxes of parts that I received when I purchased my most recent Z. It doesn't work for a 240Z as it sits on the left side of the steering column not the right. So, my question is: Is this a Fairlady part, or is it for the later 260/280z? ~Thanks
