  1. The Dirty Dingo swap kit is to put an LS motor in the Z31 and not for an older gen 350. As far as I know, no one makes a swap kit to put a 350 in the Z31.
  2. You could just buy the kit from Dirty DIngo.. http://dirtydingo.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=1_354_350&products_id=1471
  3. Slowly more progress. Not much left to do, just taking my time and enjoying the build. I will let the pics do the talking.
  4. Nice pick up. Looks just like a Grant wheel I had on my truck. The BMW may have just used a MOMO adapter. Regardless looks great. You just need a matching wood shift knob now.
  5. Like the title says, I am in need of a fuel injection wire harness for my 1978 280Z. All my injector clips are cracked and have no hold down clips and all my wires are brittle. Have paypal ready to go! Thanks.
  6. After just having my '78 280Z doors apart, the first link looks just like my locks. The second set might work if you still have your oem locks as you should need the double bend part that connects the lock itself to the mechanism inside the door.
  7. From what I read...yes I did. JohnC says no to the 240Z assemblies in my 280Z and turboHLS30 says yes. From my understanding, that is two different answers. Thanks for the reminder on using the 280Z top hats.
  8. I understand your point and the only reason I would swap the whole suspension is due to the fact that the 240Z parts are newer and better aftermarket parts than what I currently have. Once parts are in hand I will post up my results of what I end up doing. Thanks again!
  9. So I got 2 different answers! If the complete suspension will work like turboHLS30 says than that is the route I would prefer to take as that way everything is matched. Looks like I will just have to get the parts and play around with them to see which option works the best for me. Thanks for the fast replies!
  10. I have a '78 280Z and a friend has his complete suspension with eibach springs from his 240Z. My question is, will the 240Z parts work in my 280Z. I understand that it can be common to run cut 280Z springs in the 240z's. I also understand that the strut tube housings are different diameters, and that the strut top on my 280Z is longer than the 240Z. I also understand that the spring rates are different. I am not looking to race/track the car anytime soon. I am just looking to lower the car a bit until my Z31 V8 swap project is finished. I figure my options if possible are the following. 1. Bolt the 240Z strut/spring assembly into my 280Z. 2. Just use the Eibach springs in my 280Z 3. Not use any of the 240Z parts and just buy some new lowering springs. Any and all help and advice is greatly appreciated. I have searched this and other forums as well as google for an answer and only come up with 280Z springs will work in the 240Z. Nothing that states the opposite. Thanks! Here is a pic of my S30 in desperate need of more low.
  11. Just picked this up to add to the collection! I am currently swapping a SBC in my Z31 and wanted another Z for a daily driver. So here is my 78 280Z. She needs some body work love but mechanically is solid.
  12. Russ, can you post some pictures up!
  13. Haven't updated this in a while. I ended up switching to a TH350 trans with a mild stall converter just cause I am sick of looking at the car sit in my garage. I still need to fab a trans mount which looks to be fairly straight forward. I just picked up a set of headers for a mid 80's monte carlo SS that with some minor modifications should work out nicely. Here are a few updated pics.
  14. My personal wife supports everything I do, supports my car addiction and knowing that I sold my previous bike to help pay for our wedding she suprised me with a new bike on my birthday last year after only being married for one year. I am going to quote this from another forum. Have your girlfriend read the following and all will be good. Not completely the same but very similar. Shut the hell up. You’re not his wife. You’re not paying for the repairs. It’s absolutely none of your business what he does with his Jeep or his money. I know your type well… first it’s “Sell the Jeep because it’s costing too much money.†Then it’s “No, you can’t go spend the weekend with your buddies because I need you to take me shopping.†Then it’s “Oh gee, honey… I’m pregnant. Gosh, I have no idea how that happened.†You’re a DreamKiller. You kill a guy’s dreams, take away his future, tie him down with a fat mortgage and too many babies, and turn him into just another miserable guy wondering, “How the hell did I get here?†Do you really want to help him? Here’s what you do… go to your local library (it’s a big building with books inside) and check out a couple of books on rebuilding engines. Read them, over and over, until YOU understand what needs to be done. Then help him get that engine out and rebuild it. Tie your hair back in a ponytail, put on some old jeans and get your hands dirty. Hand him wrenches, hold the light, pull the wire connectors apart, help him get the hood off… help him with anything he needs. When he gets tired, run inside and make him a hot lunch or dinner. Fix him coffee, hot chocolate, whatever he wants. (But NO beer. Beer is for when the job is done.) Then when the day is over and you’re both exhausted from working on the engine, push him into a hot shower and jump in with him. Scrub his back, wash his hair, rinse him off, and dry him with fluffy towels still hot from the dryer. Then push him into bed and screw his ears off. Then get up the next day and do it all over again. Make him realize that rebuilding an engine is a slow and methodical process. Make him realize that every step should be regarded as surgery; every step must be perfect… perfect torque, perfect fit, perfectly clean. If you run into a step that you just can’t figure out, ask for help from someone who knows what he’s doing. Are you cute? Put on a low-cut top, show some cleavage and go (by yourself) to the local Jeep shop, and explain to the guys that you are helping your boyfriend to rebuild his engine and neither of you can figure out this one little step, and do they have any advice… Think it won’t work? Think again. We guys love to help cute girls, even if they have a boyfriend. (Hey, maybe you’ve got a sister, or girlfriend…) But absolutely DO NOT whine or complain. Do not say a single negative thing. Not a single “Oooooo, I broke a nail.†If you break a nail, or cut your finger, or bang a knuckle, you just shut up and DEAL WITH IT. You should be a hopelessly optomistic, never-say-die cheerleader, encouraging him every step of the way. That’s my opinion.
  15. Or make your own!! I am in now way a fabricator and this is what I came up with to put a sbc in my Z31. The car is far from finished but I am making a lot of progress on it lately. I was going to run a chevy T5 trans originally but have decided for the time being to just throw in a TH350 with a mild stall converter just so I can drive the car finally.
  16. Correct on the Head Gasket issues being common. Both head gaskets, water pump, tensioner and timing belt were just replaced 6 months ago for the same cost I paid for the car. Oh and I did pick up an older Z today at the chicago auto show as well as some nice wall art!!
  17. Thanks for all the replies! I ended up buying a '97 Subaru Legacy GT. I would have liked to pick up a classic Datsun to drive daily but this Subaru fits my needs better at this time. Once my Z31 is complete I will be picking up an older Z to build.
  18. For those of you that drive these cars in the winter, what rear end are you running. I didn't think they were a Posi/Limited Slip from the factory? I just remember driving my old rwd cars with the one wheel drive rwd in the snow and it was manageable but still troublesome. Sorry I am new to these older models but are there many aftermarket rear ends available for these cars if they don't have a "proper" rear differential in them?
  19. Asking pice was $2500.00. Location was Fall River, WI. It's on Madison, WI craigslist. If I were looking for a project car I may have contemplated dragging it home. I did locate a clean 87 N/A Z31 afterwards closer to home that I plopped some money down on since the car is receiving a new steering rack and I refuse to buy a car without driving it. I should be able to test drive that car this saturday.
  20. Well the car was not meant to be as it was far to rough than what I expected...I couldn't even hear the car run due to the bad starter which was new information to me. Would have been nice to know before making the 1.5 hour drive. Soo the search continues.
  21. All great information and very appreciated. I just sold a 95 BMW 325i that is of course RWD. I installed a limited slip and had Blizzak snow tires on all 4 corners. ABS and traction control were deleted since I like to be in charge of the vehicle. That car was a beast in the snow and my biggest worry about the datsun was the fact that it is so light. The snow tires I have for the car are 175 series and I beleive the car has a limited slip rear end in it already. We will just have to wait and see if I am posting pics of my new datsun tomorrow or if the search continues. Thanks again everyone.
