  1. Other Z's???? Don, you've been holding out on us! Are you still using the orange car as a daily driver or is it pretty much designated as a track car now? Man, with gas prices the way they are, you are a brave man if you drive it daily. It's the fastest Z car I've ever driven...10.9's correct? You and Mike Dennis have been my inspiration!!

Hey, sometime this summer I'll drive down to visit you. Just make sure you're brewing something

    Your 'garage' looks fantastic :2thumbs:

    Davy

Thanks, Davy. I'll have a cold homebrew in the fridge for you!

I drive the V8Z to work 4 days a week. I cut back to 2 days when gas was over $3.

I'm still waiting for a 10.9 timeslip. My best is 11.16, most recent is 11.36.

  2. I've been thinking about shelving/cabinets too. My new shop just passed final inspection yesterday.

My problem is, now that the building is up, I am broke.

Northern Tool has some nice looking shelving:

I've been advised to check metal scrap yards for used pallet racking.

Good luck and let us all know what you end up with.

    Don

  3. Davy,

The shop is 50' x 100' x 12' . I'm still at the same property, in Gilroy. I can harldy wait

to get signed off by the county so I can move in. Should be done by the end of this month.

I'm sure the epoxy will hold up to car tires, floor jacks, fuel spills, etc.

I used a similar product, from the same company, on my garage floor about 10 years ago.

It's held up to all of the above abuses. This product is supposed to be "new and improved".

The company is about 10 miles from your house, in Hayward. They used to be in San Jose

  4. I recently finished putting down the first two gallons of epoxy in my new shop.

I bought this stuff for $45/gallon from a local manufacturer of industrial finishes.

The concrete was badly stained with mud when we put the building up in the middle of winter. :bonk:

I used muratic acid to clean and etch the concrete. 1 gallon of acid mixed with 1 gallon of water

    would etch about 200 sq/ft.

  5. I ended up buying a Mallory oil pump drive/distrbutor plug. The cut down distributor

should have a bushing installed just below the cut. It was easier for me to just buy the

    whole assembly from Summit Racing.

The car has been running flawlessly since converting to EDIS8. I hit 6400 RPM at the

drag strip and it never missed a beat. Ran a best of 11.30@123.8 MPH.

    Don

  6. That was fun. The old Z really liked locking the torque converter clutch. It picked up 4 MPH!

    Best run:

    RT: .019

    60': 1.711

    330': 4.774

    660': 7.299 @ 97.543

    ET: 11.305

    MPH: 123.849

There weren't many cars there today. I could have run the car into the ground, but I chose to make 6 passes.

The car is still kind of soft on the launch compared to the 4 BBL carb. Maybe Santa will bring me a 3000 RPM converter for Christmas :)

    Don

  7. I haven't been to the drag strip since May. It's time to test some of the mods I've made since then.

    - Ported the runners on my Stealth Ram intake

    - Added a switch to lock up the torque converter clutch on the 2-3 shift

    - Distributor-less ignition

I hope to do better than my previous best of 11.46@119 with EFI.

    Don

  8. No distributor? No Problem!

    PA220024.JPG

I sawed off an old points distributor to plug the hole and turn the oil pump.

I need to find a cap to cover the spinning washer on the end of the cut down shaft.

I made my trigger wheel by cutting notches in a unused belt groove on the crank pulley. I marked

the pulley every 10 degrees and used a grinder to cut the notches. I know it's not 100% accurate,

but I think it's close enough.

    PA220023.JPG

It fired right up on the first try! :2thumbs:

I bought a set of spark plug wires for a 4.6L Mustang, but I don't like the way they fit. I need

to find a set with 90 degree plug boots.

    Don

  9. Here are the part numbers for flange yokes that adapt the 1310 series u-joint to the R200...

    Neapco: N2-2-899-1

    Powertrain Industries: 3102-39

If your local driveshaft shop can't get them, I'd bet that JTR has them in stock.
