  1. I have been looking all around for the best engine swap possible, and cost wise, i would like to know how the z31 motor stands. I have been reading up on the actual fitting of the engine, and it seems like somthing i can undertake this winter. So what i would like to know, is this a very pricey swap? can someone who has done the swap please tell me how they went about the task of wiring the engine up? I do already have an sr20, but i really want to stay with 6 cylinders, the aspect of the vg30et not having alot of aftermarket support is not a problem, i do not plan on getting amazingly high numbers from my car, i only want to make a mean street car and a quick track vehicle. I have this swap in my mind because there are many z31 turbo parts cars that would be great donors, in my area. Thanks for the help.
  2. Well, my next motor oppertunity is an rb20det from an 89Gts, the guy is putting in an rb25 and needs the motor, tranny, and ecu gone. I know the rb20 displaces the same as a 4banger, but the closer i get to the name Rb26 the more scared i get, I have this image in my head of 5000 hours of wiring and fabrication.
  3. Wow, stony, i had no clue the RB could give you that close to 49/51....interesting stuff.
  4. Hey guys, i still havent decided on what engine to invest in for my 280z, im still planning on picking up that sr20 for my car, but after seeing my friends foxbody tear down the street from my school, im wondering if the sr20 will give me enough power and torque. My main goal for the is to get into track racing, but be a mean as hell street car at the same time. The sr attracted me becuase its light and i think would do well on the track, but the sheer power of the Rb's is attracting me too. If i was to put in an Rb25, how well do you guys think i could corner with it? if im going to be puting my z on the track, should i just forget about the RB?
  5. Hell i'd buy it, get it up to Calgary Alberta and ill give you 1800 haha
  6. That car is simply the nicest looking Z i have ever seen in my not so long 16 year life. I know a guy who is willing to sell me an sr20det for real cheap, this has really made me think about it seriously.
  7. Hey guys, i have a chance to get an sr20det with a blown headgasket for $400Canadian. If it needs machining i can get a deal from my boss. Do you guys think it is worth it?
  8. For the last 6 months i have been pretty solid on what kind of swap i wanted for my 1978 280z. I wanted to simply drop an l28et in, maybe a bigger turbo and a modified ecu to begin with. Well, now that i have some time to look around for a 280zx turbo parts car, i can see that there is.....**** all. So i really need some suggestions as to what you guys think would be do-able for me. I have access to a ton of parts and tools, partially because i work at partsouce. Also, there are quite a few people willing to lend a hand with my car. So, im looking to make the car a daily driver when its decent out, and a pretty bad *** street car, not much more than that. I am leaning towards an Sr20, due to the fact that they are a dime a dozen in Calgary, and every shop in the city sells parts for it. If anyone thinks an Sr20 is a good idea, can you give me some ideas as to what i need to take care if when it comes to the electronics and engine managment part of the swap? the installation would not be a problem, its the wiring that scares me. Also, any other ideas for engine swaps? i have access to many jdm/usdm motors, but for some reason, no damn L28et.....bummer. Another cool thing, i get major discounts at almost any performance shop in Calgary, as well as the HKS tuning shop, so im sure that will save me some money on Japanese performance parts.
  9. Ahh, i see, so i have an R200. Yea, the clunk is pretty bad, let me ask one more question. The bar that goes across the driveshaft tunnel just before the diff, it has 4 bolts in it, 2 in each side, and in the middle of each bolt a bushing. Now, the ouside bolt of the drivers side is broken off, so there is nothing holding it down other then the next bolt over, could this be the source of the clunking? because other than a SLIGHTLY loose Ujoint in the passenger side half shaft, i cant thing of anything else.....all the mounts and bushings looks pretty good, not worn down enough to be causing a problem of this severity.
  10. Quick question, how hard is this swap? i have a hardcore clunk in my r180 and i just want to get a 200 from a zx parts car. any fabrication or bolt on issues? anywhere i can see an install with some pictures? thanks.
  11. I have a 1978 Datsun 280z, and i am looking into boosting it, but i want to know why dropping a new motor in is so easy compared to turboing an N/A motor? i would either get a turbo manifold from a ZX or get one custom made, plus the exhaust manifold, and a T3, Bov, ect ect. When it comes to the ECU, can they be re-programmed? supposedly a place near by could do it for me. I'm only looking to run about 8-9Psi max. any major concerns? Thanks.
  12. You're friend johnny sounds like a real arse. He could atleast make the guy a deal.
  13. Hey guys, i was wondering what i can do with this 302, its in a Fox body, has GT-40 Heads, ram air, short shifter, 2.5" exhaust and some other work. What i was really looking for, is if someone has Turbocharged a 302, any resources or info would be great, i was thinking about a TO3 from a Thunderbird, an intercooler and an air bypass valve. What i really want to know is, what would have to be done to the electronic system to turbocharge the car? Thanks a ton guys.
  14. P.S I have heard of 2.8L Stroker kits for the RB26, are their any strokers for the RB20? Thanks alot.
  15. Can anyone direct me somewhere so i can learn more? What fabrications need to be done What is done Electronically And can someone tell me what a Dogbox Transmission is? Thanks!
  16. Hey guys, can anyone give me some information on L28 TT engines? like that kind of turbo's, manifolds and electronics are used? thanks alot.
  17. I'm in Calgary and i'm interested, what would the damage be?
  18. I'm in Calgary, Alberta and i ordered from Summit Auto, and it came in like 4 Business days.
  19. Wow, i was just going to ask the same! when you get some results, can you hit me back? Thanks.
  20. Hey guys, so i got my JTR manual, i have been reading up alot, and now i would like to go hunting for a engine. Specifically, im looking for a 4 Barrel Carbureted V8, Pref a 5spd but if the transmission and engine are good, anything will do. So, what cars should i be looking for at the yard (ill check to see if i can find anything their first) their are tons of cars their, i just need to know some that have the 350's in them. Thanks alot.
  21. If you have the extra cash, JEGS makes some great crate engines
  22. Thanks for all the info, i think this swap will go great. As for what this car will be doing, basically getting me to school and everywhere else i need to go, when i take it to race city i'll of course do the 1/4 but i really like road racing, so how do V8 Z's perform on the track?
  23. Thanks for all the help, so my plan so far is to get my hands on a carbureted, 4 bolt main 350. Ill do a rebuild, balance it, new carb, port the head and some other things. One thing, i could put up with an automatic trans, but is their any popular 5spd options with an older 350? oh and can anyone recommend where i get a good rear end for my application? (as in what kind of car from)
  24. Sensors, AFM, doesent say anything else about an Alternator, but ill call. Is the LT1 A longblock or shortblock? im new to big muscle car engines, so can someone fill me in? thanks.
