  1. These will be AWESOME if I can ever get some companion flanges for a 280Z to use with them! Hint Hint.... Anyof you guys have extras in the larger 27 spline??? Anyone need any of the earlier, smaller R180 Type??? Mike
  2. ...And now you see why I had Tim do them for me instead of me do them and screw them up! Thanks Tim! You are DAH MAN! Mike
  3. Grumpy what are your recommendations for headers for a C5 LS1? Mike
  4. Well no, Actually I have been tied up with family stuff... and work stuff... DOnna's Granny is in bad shape... They are bringing in hospice care for her, as she is suffering final stages of cancer, and last week I wasn't so sure I wasn't going to be looking for a job... Had some contract issues pop up, and we almost found ourselves without one... So it has been a bit tense since my two hour commute home Friday evening! I hope to go pick up some of the material this friday. Mike
  5. Guys, I've got a Fluidamper balancer (SFI Model) that I'm trying to install on my crank. The issue is that the pulleys from the waterpump and the alternator do NOT match up when the balancer seems to be installed. I BROKE a new balancer installer/ driver while re-installing this unit last night. It appears that it should go further back, but it won't... Any ideas??? Mike
  6. There is a recent post elsewhere about this very issue (Check the six cylinder forum) but the thing to remember is the weight of the car... It may only turn 150-170WHP, but it is in a very fun light car... So in answering your question, I'd have to say I would be happy with less than 200HP with the right brakes and suspension... Especially as a daily driver... Based on your mods you speak of, I'd suspect you would be in that range... 140-170HP with a bunch of bolt ons, especially if you get those carbs tuned at 100% Mike
  7. ...Or you can just Buy Alex' project and relieve him from his HELL! Mike
  8. Grumpy, How is one to be remotely able to stuff 3.5 inch pipes under a Zcar, when getting headers is such a challenge? I suspect that ground clearance is gonna be a huge issue... Suggestions/ Help/ Advice??? I'm getting ready to buy headers within the next 30 days for my 383 stroker build that is estimated at over 500HP... Mike PS, I LOVE the Borla XR1s on my C5!
  9. Ross, I can't really say how well mine will work, since I'm building it as I speak... But I've got a 383 stroker, internally balanced, roller hydraulic setup, aluminum Dart heads... 530/550 lift cam with 294/ 294 dur.@ 50 Advertized. I'm gonna be running my cuttler FI intake (I have to drill and slot some mount holes) w/ 42# injectors and a 1000CFM TB. This system was purchased reasonably online two years ago... I'm gonna control it with the Holley COmmander 950 computer and harness... It should be very mild manored on the street, and tuning cannot be any worse than when I had my carburetor! Those who have this setup report very good manors and easy tuning once you get the hang of it... there is also rumor of 3rd party wideband 02 software for full R/T Tuning. Mike PS, Spoke with Jim Mcnemar on the phone last night... I'll have some questions for you when you get the parts list on his car done... I'm doing the install and build up of his current Scarab. Mike
  10. ...Again I say... John Coffey For PRESIDENT! Mike
  11. I'd like to Agree with Tim, but in my state, I can hang an antique tag on it and call it a street car... breathing methanol, plexi windows, and road race slicks... To me, when it no longer had interior, has a fire system, full "CERTIFIED" cage, is gutted to the minimum rules (For a specific class) and is no longer livable on the street, I think it would be a Race Car... Being a weekend racer you drive on the street for giggles and grins is strateling the fence, and won't make oyu competitive... Which brings another question... If it is a Hobyy, then fine, Build it to do eveythin OK. But is you are building a "RACE CAR" then you plan to race to... W-I-N... Or atleast I would because I'm much to competitive. And in order to be competitive, you'd likely have to make the leap, and pull it off the road in order to gain the competitive edge, or atleast get to that level. Mike 8)
  12. Lowered the Vette over the weekend... Cost nothing but an alignment. And it only took about an hour to complete everything start to finish. Best part, it can be completely undone if you don't like it... I like it, allthough I need to check the rake front to rear... The rear mod drops the car over two and 3/8 inches, which really equates to 1 7/8th drop. The sway bar dog bones are 1/2 inch longer... So that stacks the suspension a bit more... Up front the mods drop the front 1 1/4 inch. I may end up raising the rear back up 1/2 inch or so... Mike
  13. Now I resent the fact that you guys would accuse MSA of not being concerned for their customer base... That would almost assume they ever did! $$$$$$$$ All the way to DAH BANK BABY! Mike 8)
  14. Not everyone has the same luck with gravety bleeding, plus it can be messy... The thing I like about using the bleeders along with the AMPRO fluid catcher is the lack of mess, and it literally takes les than 15 minutes by yourself... Yes, there are other methods, but the speed bleeders are in my opinion well worth the $20... I get them from http://www.discbrakesrus.com for $20 for four. PEPBoys in my area quit carrying them because they didn't sell many of them... A shame really... Mike
  15. Strange.. My other PC wouldn't post the text... Mike
  16. I don't have a pic of the one I've fabricated, but I have adjusted it and you can adjust it and see the towers flex. Not sure on the ZX, but on the Z the supports ti the cowl is pretty sturdy, but the whole shell of the Z isn't exactly thick metal in the 1st place. However, Fabricating those braces didn't cost a lot (I hope) since there is about $100 worth of parts in both braces... If nothing else, they look cool! 8) Mike
  17. My wife is aware... And after having been married 17 years to a man who cheated on her from day one, Her requirement for marriage #2 (That would be to me! ) was that whoever she married NOT play with other women... She has been VERY understanding of my hobbies, and as long as I keep throwing $1200 per month into my 401K and keep a roof over our heads, and keep us in nice vacations, then she is happy... She certainly does without nothing! She likes it when I'm in the garage! She knows that I'm not out somewhere scoping and chatting up some 21 year old hottie... Mike
  18. So My 19 year old comes to me with this sheepish grin on his face and says... "You gonna get mad if I sell the Civic/ Ingegra swap?" And I say "Why are you selling it?" He says "Well You shouldn't have taken me for a ride in the Vette..." I just look at him and shake my head... "So you think you can afford insurance on a vette?" "Uh, no, I'm gonna start looking for a supra... Non-turbo to cut down on insurance..." So then he tells me what he "THINKS" he can get for his 94 civic... $10,000... After I dried my eyes from laughing so hard they watered, He got pissed. I had to sit him down and explain that, yes even though he has a "Kit" on his car, and it is "Hooked up" with neons and video/ sound/ DVD and has nice 17 inch wheels with nitto tires, and an ingtegra motor with custom build stuff... and a full 2.5 inch exhaust... and a HUGE Super cool wing on the back , It is still NADA valued at $3000-3500. He wasn't grasping the concept that taking good Honda factory paint off the car and putting Maacco paint on it wasn't the best of ideas. I'll report back when his car sells... I'll eat crow big time if he gets 10K for it... But I'm suspecting closer to 5K than 10K... Mike
  19. 240Z2NV, I actually have one of the four leg, heavy duty engine stands that I took measurements from and you're right, it needs to be extended. You would never be able to rotate it 180 degrees otherwise. Additional bracing was in the plan, with several other mods, as well as a Connecting beam of 2X3 Stock steal... And raising the fulcrum. However, since DOUG was so nice as to find the link to the plans I couldn't find before I posted this.... I think I'll now go buy the stock and make a large rotisery! Mike
  20. Well Doug Carrow's Z hauls serious ass with his trips and I think it all boils down to who is tuning them. No denying the work Norm has done to his beast... He has a combo that simply cannot be beat. But I know from personal and humiliating experience 1st hand... I nearly gave away a set of Mikunis that I could NOT get to run... The guy who bought them SPANKED me on a regular basis... He was GREAT at tuning them and keeping them sorted. EDIT: I was typing while Norm posted... Couple comments Norm, Your car hauls ass, but you are also on slicks, which does help a little... and Your SUs are big bore units that have been worked... They are the exception, not the dusty crusty normal example so many of the guys are stuck with! Mike
  21. Dude, your car project is cool... To you... That should be all that matters... He won't be able to put 1000HP to the ground, and all that amounts to is "My wallet is fatter than yours" Syndrome! My Z parts were sold... Leaving me with just a shell, and enough money to do a twin turbo install into my Vette... My new BAD toy... That would have STILL been slower than my V8 Z... I kept it for a reason! Plus, when your Z is done, and you roll up into a parking lot, you are pretty much guaranteed no one else is gonna roll up in one just like it. Can't say that about my Vette, and my guess is you can't say that for sure about a viper... No one sees under the hood when you are rolling down the street... I'm over on http://www.corvetteforums.com,'>http://www.corvetteforums.com, as well as http://www.ls1.com. I'm new over at both sites, and I'll warn you, http://www.corvetteforums.com isn't as technical as I had hoped... Most guys are NOT turning wrenches on their own cars... lot of them are handing them over to custom tuners to build and isntall... I've still got to figure out what we're gonna build with out LS1 Block and heads... still researching. The Z06 bolt ons were nice, but the car sits higher and I'm not sure if it was from sitting on the lift with the suspension relaxed for three days, or the changes we made... Good thing is lowering the Vette costs Nothing other than an alignment... So if it doesn't settle down in a week, I'll be dropping it manually! Mike
  22. Well, As John has reminded me several times, I've been out of the Lseries motor for quite a while! I also agree with the comments about understated tuning of the carbs and overstating cam and head work. I experienced just that with large valves and big cam properly shimmed in an L28 setup. If you can't get the induction sorted out, you will NOT be able to take advantage of the induction, porting, and larger ingestion of the system... SUs are a JOKE on Lseries motors that have modified heads. They simply can't flow enough CFMs... Mike
  23. Guys, because I'm getting close to ready for paint and body on this car, I'm gonna go buy some heavy duty engine stands and weld up some brackets to mount the car on... I really need to get this thing in the air without the panels and suspension on it... I need to finish the underside prime and paint, as well as my roll cage issues finished, finish the engine bey, and paint it all... SO I can do the topside body and paint! I hope to have everything in house by the weekend so I can make it all! I'll take pics! Mike
