  1. I really want to try this but not brave enough.... Has anyone ever gone all the way with a ceramic coating? I'm talking inside and out all the way from exhaust port to manifold, manifold to turbo, and turbo to cat (if you have one). I'm not sure exactly how much extra power it's worth, but it should make spoolup faster and bring underhood temps WAY down, in addition will greatly help emmisions as will keep cat nice and warm, will also speed up lightoff. Someone give it a shot. (do remember to check clearance in turbo though or you may frag it on spoolup) Good luck
  2. Hrmmmm.... that Mighty Max transmission makes me nervous... I think I'll just donut bribe my friend (master machinest) to fab me a bellhousing if I do it, but before I do I was hoping for firsthand knowledge of how the car will ride afterword. I know the torque curve LOOKS good, but I want a butt-o-meter rating before I try it
  3. Has anyone completed this into a Z yet? I've poked around a bit and I like the potential of this combo. I've seen dyno numbers in the high 300's low 400's around 2500-7000 which is all I want to make (I value my life there's ice here alot). I've read the posts awd92gsx made but still can't seem to find anyone who has posted complete instructions feel free to chime in awd92gsx this is all your fault for waving a light weight powerhouse in front of me anyway 8) I'd just plow through it the hard way but I don't have the time carring 22 units in school Thanks.
  4. Just promise me one thing.... you'll take before and after pictures of your frame can you say... pretzel?
  5. Well, since you didnt list your ignition timing, amount of boost running, a/f ratio or intake manifold temps, I have no freakin clue
  6. What you want is the engine from either a 84-86 mustang SVO, or a thunderbird turbocoupe. The engines are identical, the 88 TC has a larger stock intercooler, but it is mounted in a way that wont work with Z car hood, unless you made one. And I speak from experience (I have a 86 SVO ) they are one of the best 4 cyl stock engines there are......( I'm not saying it can't be improved upon, but I run 19psi on mine at around 312hp and 296ft/lbs on pump gas (91 octane). Only thing you have to watch for is to buy the right computer, the ones you want are PE series (any SVO) or the LA3 (a little cheaper and not as aggresive, from 88 TC). I know people who push near 400hp with the motor bone stock internally I wouldn't push mine past 360hp unless was a fresh build, mine has 119k on it If you can find a wrecked SVO go for it, especially if the trans is still in the car, world class t-5 Oh yeah, it you get one DON'T use the knock sensor, they are way too sensitive, pulls too much timing when no detonation happening
  7. Why not just run the header to the front of the engine and mount them (the turbos) there, then run the pipes back under? It's not like you'll have a heat problem as you have plenty of room to make a hood with slots and scoops and room for a monstrous fan I've seen forward mounted turbo setups done on other cars, with the exhaust wrapped to retain heat I think it would work just fine Would also make oil drain easier since you could run straight to the pan without having to make sharp bends. Just my $0.02
  8. http://www.coatesengine.com/eGallery/pages/components.htm Gee... now all we need is a matching head bolt pattern [/url]
  9. Maybee you're looking at this all wrong. He just wants to put in 0.5:1 drive gears and get up to say..... 500MPH! Ludacris Speed... GOOO!!!
  10. Just like to say hello first, since first post and all (currently buying a 76 280Z). I also have a 1986 Mustang SVO, these engines rock! As long as you get either a PE computer or a LA3 computer (86 svo, 88 t-bird respectivly)these engine are sweet for the price. I push 18psi all stock on mine with a k&n 6" cone and easily beat out brand new 04 GT's (on 91 octance pump gas too while getting around 34mpg highway). I just wrecked the car (damned if black ice and potholes don't mix so I am purchasing the 280 for the purpose of swapping in the motor I've already got. You can torture the hell of the blocks and trans (world class t5) but two things to watch for. #1 They don't rev very high stock (~5500) you CAN rev them higher to about 6500 before bad things happen but power drops off at 5000 with cam anyway . #2 The heads crack I've NEVER seen a 80k+ car with a uncracked head, luckily heads are cheap and the cracks rarely cause problems. But for the money it's awsome, I've seen #'s around 350hp and 400ft/lbs with stock internals I wouldn't push mine that far... but you get the picture I would assume that others have done this swap as the engines are cheap and plentiful. Can someone point me to a place where I could check out previously done ones? Perhaps the motor mounts could be copied?
