  1. Wow that much of a flare. I just doesn't look like that much. From my point of view it seems more like a 2" flare from the farthest OEM point on the original quarter panel. I think its just one of the those things you have to see to understand. As for the wheels i'll have to measure and guesttimate on a size.

  2. 315's  , on an 11" wheel. Crap man and to think I want 10-12" wheels. Okay now guesstimate if I widened the rear four inches how big of a rim (width) could I fit? I want to do 17"'s on my 280ZX. I'm almost done with my clay sculpt. I'll post pics when its painted in all. Detail work was impossible though. Hood scoops are just holes and the rear diffuser i couldn't really make. My scale is too darn small. Next time i'm going much bigger.

  3. Foam ehh..........where to you get large blocks of foam from? Also Terry what size tires are you running in the rear? Looks awesome in paint. NOw I hope you have some engine power to go with it, thus creating one awesome package, keep the surprises coming inside and out. :2thumbs:

  4. Yea I checked with my parts department. The two fronts (the originals) are identical and the two rears are different. Only thing is that one of the rear lines is a little shorter than the fronts. Which explains the three identical lines. You can always put a onger line in place of a shorter one. And there is an actual line that is supposed to be double female ended. It links up to another line. Thanks for the replies guys. I guess this post was kinda pointless. Oh well, at least I got my answers.

  5. Alright heres the story. I ordered a set of stainless steel braided brake lines for my 1979 280ZX. Now I haven't actually looked at the fittings yet, but the kit came with three lines with male and female ends, and one with female fittings on both ends. Is this correct? or did someone mess up? If noone asnwers this post by tomorrow, it will be useless, because then I can put it on the lift at work and find out. To dark right now. to look.

ID your confused this is what I mean

    brake line one= 1male fitting & 1 female fitting

    brake line two= 1male fitting & 1 female fitting

    brake line three= 1male fitting & 1 female fitting

    brake line four= 1female fitting & 1 female fitting

  6. Thats just not fair, but at the same ime you inspire me to make my drawing real. Foam ehh..........where to you get large blocks of foam from? Also Terry what size tires are you running in the rear? Looks awesome in paint. NOw I hope you have some power to go with it, thus creating one awesome package, keep the surprises coming inside and out.

  7. That car is god. :hail: I would literally drool If I saw that car on the road. That's saying alot because I don't drool on the sight of lambos or ferraris. Something tells be that if that car goes to west Z nationals in Cali it will win no problem. If I'm not mistaken are you painting your Z the same as the one posted in your photo gallery? I to would like to se interior pics, and if possible a pic from the inside of the car looking at your side mirrors just to seee what the rear uarters look like in the mirror.

Also do you have a nice engine to go with the car?

  8. My Z looking like this. If I posted the mods I wanted you'd get tired of reading. Imagine this a 280zx 2+2 that can drift, autox, drag, audio comp, and win shows. Thats what I want. The more custom the better.

    Secondly an equally appealing 350Z

thirdly another appealing car in the form of a 240Z (all race though, no stereo)

  9. I too always thought that making the bottom of a car as flat as possible was to your benifit. I too don't quite understand the hourglass deal. The Enzo for instancehas a complicated undertray with motorized diffusers. I think a flat surface with rib guides with the 7* departure rear diffuser would be perfect. Maximum surface area, minimal drag. Of course to properlt achieve this I think you might want a custom chassis, but it could be done with the stock one I think. To my understanding flattening the bottom allows you to make fine aero adjustment by directing the air going over the car versus under. Just simplifies things.

  10. Here's what I what I want, A) a stereo with an amazing powerband B) good clarity C) a 60%-40% balance between bass and treble. the 60% being bass. I want good boom and I still want to be able to hear the music clearly. Thus restricting the usge of each. Treble only plays b-c (the highs)powerrange and Bass plays a-b powerrange (lows). Here's the plan have tweeters and mids that can put out enough power to accomodate the large output of bass. D) fine adjustment, I want the system to be bearable (legal on street) and the nbe able to be turned up to own in comp.

As for sound I know these Z's have an incredible ability to deaden sound on the outside (when your not in the car). Right now I have to turn it up really loud to hear it outside, but inside it is really loud, but lacks clarity big time and bass is wimpy. So I can see what you mean when you don' t need a lot of power to light up the inside sound stage, but to light up the outside in another story.

Is this possible to do, or are these requirements impossible to pair up?

  11. Here's my two cents. If you made a front belly pan that stop right before the tranny tranny tunnel and then out a up sloping section to huide air in the the tranny (thus creating the hourglass shape, increasing airspeeds) then directed the air to the rear diffuser using angled fences leading to the vertical slatts on the rear diffuser, I think air flow would be better. Also have angled fences up front to direct air to the tranny tunnel. In my design the outer inlets of the front facia would direct air to the angled fences to the tranny tunnel and my rear fascia along with an actual bellypan/diffuser would finish the hourglass aerodynamics. AS for the vortex on the sides, I dunno, that's beyond my knowledge. What do you thing of the rest of the idea though? Ideally th eunderside would act like wing right in the middle of the car (tranny tunnel) Also I thought about little inlets (cowl style) on the front fascia design to allow high pressure cool air (less debris) and have it directed to the front brakes.

  12. they are very weldable. For my exhuast being done by "pros" at the muffler shop they just welded the pipe right to the exhuast manifold with MIG. Next time in the future , I'll have flanges made to work with custom headers as well as mandrel bends versus crushed bends.

  13. This is as low as I would go and I had my pivots raised on 250/45/15s with camber plates and bump steer spacers. This autox was really smooth. When it was over I'd raise the car up about 2" and drive home. With the sectioned struts I could conceiveably go 1.5" lower than this and still have suspension travel. :!: I am going to try and raise the control arm pivots more' date=' we'll see what happens...

That first Z looks like they cut the springs, took the usable part of the spring and threw it in the garbage and put it back together with the unusable part. If it wasn't on the bumpstops just sitting there it was definitely on them under accel, braking, cornering, etc.

I love the stance of your car. If I could mimick that with 17"s and my dream body mods, that's be awesome. Personally I like the go cart ride in a car, especially with powersteering  .

  14. Well now I did learn about constructive and destructive interference. If you had the speakers direct the sound to where the passenger heads are I'd think you get some good consturctive interference and create a large destructive zone in the middle of the car. Plus with the push pull effect from the subs I'd think the bass would be well control especialll with the ports directing the air into the destructive zone. Am I right. Ok since you appear to know more about stereo physics, would would be a nice system that could do well in audio compitition, that is symmetrical.

I'll be honest I'm a big fan of the Fiberglass/ Carbon fiber creations for audio (as long as the carbon fiber is painted). Mix that with leather/vinyl and then were talking. Give me some ideas, pleeaaase :hail:
