  1. Thanks OZconnection I think this will be a good setup for its intended purpose, which is not going to be a daily driver. I am building this to be a toy and something to possibly try out all the ricers I have to deal with on a daily basis on the way to work, sorry if that offends . And I also have a 83 model 280zx tranny as well that I can swap if it is too tall of a ratio ,which i suspect it wont be ,I have allways been more partial to 1/8 mile runs but that is just my preference. As it stands,p54 block .flat tops,p79 shaved 80 thousandths, shimmed ,n42 valves, sent my stock cam to delta for a regrind along with the followers, bob sharp 4 barrel intake, holley 390 cfm reworked, msa header, and still buying parts.Possibly triples or a stand alone ems in the future as cash flow dictates and then on to the full restoration of the car,and yes i know most people restore the car first but I cant resist the urge to do the engine first ,I have done this on every build I have ever done. I would like to thank everyone for any input on my posts positive or negative,I appreciate all information.
  2. Does anyone know where to get the cam tower shims from?I have allready contacted Pioneer and Goodson . I am thinking of having some machined if I can't find any
  3. I recently purchased a 3.90 r200 for my 76 build,an 83 l28 engine and tranny.Iam planning on using the 83 block and head .040 over, head work on the p79, 272 cam,msa header and bob sharp 4 barrel intake and 390 holley ,dont scream about su's.I will eventually source a set and do a dyno comparison and run the best setup My question is this, has anyone ever used a 5 speed from a 720 pickup? I can get 1 for $50.00 and the ratio is as follows 1st 3.592 ,2nd 2.445, 3rd 1.415, and 5th .813
  4. Thanks datsphilly,I would love to do a turbo swap or a stand alone efi setup with a hotter cam in the future. But for now I was going to keep it simple,I have access to the machine shop where i used to work for 15 years rebuilding cylinder heads and engines and the only cost would be parts and my time.
  5. Just lookin for an answer to my question,I dont have the money for a turbo swap right now .
  6. I didnt ask about a turbo setup and sorry you have bad eyesight.
  7. Hello I have been searching this forum and have to say that I am impressed with the wealth of knowledge on Z cars. I am a newbie to the Z car scene and and was wondering if anyone could help with a few questions. I have a 76 280 z currently still a 4 speed, stock efi, with a stock r200 3.54 gear,I just bought a 83 280zx r200 3.90 to install and I am looking to buy a 5 speed either from a 280zx or possibly a 720 pickup . The car came with a few extra parts that i have been thinking of using in a engine build, a Bob Sharp 4barrel intake manifold with no carb,a Delta cams 272 reground camshaft with matching rockers and a pacesetter square port 6 to 1 header. I am intending on driving this Z but obviously it will not be my daily driver. My question is this ,with the parts mentioned above, and a rebuild with flat top pistons ,headwork on the N42,a Holley 390 cfm carb will this be a fairly decent setup ,not looking for a 12 second car but would like to make at least 200 to 250 h.p. and not loose too much street driveability. Also I am in the Charlotte N.C. area and would like to meet any local members. Thanks in advance, Curt
