  1. warsZ - do you have more pics of your car with those rims? Maybe a side view. I am considering them... my car came with 14 inch Ansons and I want to upgrade. The rest of the car is fairly stock. Did you go with the taller tire for looks in the back? I don't want to stagger my wheels or tires so I can rotate them and plus I seem to find better deals right now on the 205/50s... I am selling all my SpecV stuff to fund my Z project. Sold one set of rims from her already and selling the second set now so I can get these. I didn't want to spend a couple hundred bucks on spacers to use my FWD rims on the Z.
  2. I am about to paint my butterscotch pieces black... ha. The PO had some of the parts in black already, so I am just finishing the swap but I think I will paint all the parts (even the ones already black) again to get them all looking new. Good job on the grills. Sam
  3. I have a 1975 280z... it came with no radio and no speakers installed. I figured most of the wires (for the antenna and stuff at least. So now working on running some speakers. I am making a custom box for 6x9s behind the seats. I want to put front speakers in the kick panel area. My car did not have kick panel trim in either side. I bought and am waiting to get a drivers side piece I found. I am wondering if anyone has mounted a speaker on it with a pod or anything. If so, will it get in the way of your foot on the clutch? I figured it would just encroach on the dead peddle area. For the passenger side I was thinking I make a little fake cover for the fuses and mount a pod there as well. I found a nice low profile pod that I think will work. Any examples others have done? I will post measurements and a write up on what I do if no one has done this before. Ideas, suggestions, tips?
  4. 1975 280z... I am changing the rear wheel cylinders and shoes... checked at Autozone and they asked me what size the rear brakes are... both Black Dragon and MSA only list one part number for brake hardware, but don't list the size. Autozone lists either a 9x1 and 5/8ths or 9x1 and 9/16ths. I know it is only a 1/16s difference in size... do I go with the bigger or smaller size? Is that dependent on if the drums have been turned? The car is stored over at my shop right now so I can't measure anything but I want to get parts ordered. Thanks.
  5. New to the forum... thought I should start a thread to introduce myself and of course my car. She is a 1975 Datsun 280z, engine is original but it was originally an auto and has a swapped in 5 speed. This is my first Z and very excited... the car is super rust free, one spot on the pass frame rail but the floors, hatch and strut towers are clean. I bought it smoking and running super rich. I fixed one injector, adjusted the idle and she only smokes now once she gets hot. So for short trips so I don't mind, and I will keep figuring out the motor (I need mechanics since I don't do a lot of that serious motor work). Suspension and brakes all worked and I am working on just small projects for now before I jump knee deep into updates and upgrades. Working on the dash wiring as the center console was out, missing radio and no HVAC bezel when I got her. I have started buying parts and fixing small things so far. Hope she turns into a fun project... I started a blog to follow the project as well... figured it might be fun to be able to look back to day one. Link in my sig. I have been autocrossing for 6 years now with several clubs. Got competitive in SCCA with my former 2002 SpecV and looking forward to taking this Z out there for some fun. Thanks for the future help everyone!
  6. Reviving an old thread (new guy here). I have a 75 280z with just the one fusible link. Would it be easier since I only have two fuses to cover to do inline fuse blocks? Then I don't have to run a new wire from the starter to the block. Then I just remove the fusible link, and run the white wires into one side, the striped wires into the other side. For only having to do two on my car it would be faster and easier. Below is a sample pic, I got a local shop here that can get me two of these for less than 10 bucks. Then I throw a 40amp and 80amp fuse in there and am good to go.
