  1. The tracking of my car seems to be a bit odd while under heavy acceleration or highway speeds. Hitting a bump or if the tire follows a crack in the road, it seems the front end will follow the road while the rear may wiggle a bit and then fall into place. It's like the car is flexing in the middle. I know that the bushings for the sway bars need to replaced but am unsure how big of a difference the new ones would make. Would this "wiggle" be due to potential weak frame rails? Bushings? It's hard to explain in text how it feels while driving. Car: '73 240z
  2. Full motor. I can't inspect the motor in person (to look for the turbo) so that's why I'm asking for visual differences. Here is the engine in question.
  3. What are the visual differences between the 2 engines? Obvious one being the valve cover saying turbo. What others components are on the turbo engine that you would see at a quick glance?
  4. A few details on the car. 1973 240z /w electronic ignition. Using ignition module E12-80. Exactly as the title says. When cranking the car, the tach will bounce a bit but then drops back down to zero once the car has started. When driving the tach stays at zero. Not too sure if it worked before as I'm the new owner and don't know the history of the electronic ignition change. Today the tach slowly crawled up to 8k and stayed there until I turned the car off. I did however read that this happens when it's hot outside and today was one of those days. So that one makes sense (to an extent). I searched but didn't find another issue like this one. Is my tach fubar'd or do I still have a hope of getting this thing working? What I found on the tach going up due to hot weather.
  5. I watched this movie a while back and really enjoyed it. Here's the trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmkpsQmsRpI
  6. Yes, it was a zx. Quite modified from what I could see.
  7. Not my engine bay but one from a local car show.
  8. While removing my gas tank I found out one of the straps is in rough shape and needs to be replaced. Anyone have spare gas tank straps they can part with? Edit: This is for a '73 240Z.
  9. '73 240z. New to Datsuns. I've got a few lights which are not working: heater controls, choke/seatbelt/fog. Tested the lights with a battery, they work. 1st image - shows unknown yellow power and black ground disconnected which is part of a group of wires running to this gold box under the glovebox. Accessory relay? The other end of these wires follows through to the choke/seat/fog panel. I put power to the yellow and I could hear a tick sound but still no lights to the panel. 2nd image - lights for the heater controls with the ground. These also don't light up. Connected to the accessory relay as well? How can you tell if a relay is faulty? Initially I had a problem with the heater blower which turned out to be no power going to it. There is a loose connection for the power with no female end in sight. Still hunting down the other end or I'll have to splice into another power source. (I would search more but it's 2am and I'm sleeeeepy)
  10. Looks like a great project car. I only wish that I had a car that cool when I was 15. Great progress so far!
  11. Car: '73 240Z Owned the car for only 1 week so far. I stopped by Nissan today to pick up an oil filter and they were a bit unsure of which oil filter was the correct one. They ended up giving me the part #15208-W1103 which after some research, appears to be for a truck. I've found the part #15208-65011 mentioned a few times on here as well as part #15208-43G00. Are there different part #'s for the different years of the 240Z or just one that fits all?
  12. I'm looking into purchasing a '73 Datsun 240z and I want some opinions on what I'm looking at. '73 240z 90,000 Miles Was restored about 10 years ago. Original color was Orange. Also would come with a 2.8l spare engine /w 5 spd transmission. (Came out of an IMSA car) The interior looks to be fairly.... tired. It needs some TLC for sure. The dash is in great shape with one small rip/tear in it. Tachometer does not work (goes up upon starting the car but then goes back to 0). Other gauges appeared to be in working order besides a wobbly speedo. Video below shows the car running. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpBRxXvAed8
