  1. while tearing down my head i lost a valve keeper. does anyone know where i can find one, other than on my floor?
  2. well if its been rebuilt and a new cam added, some tuning is goin to be nessecary to get it to run right. after tuning the rpm's should be kept above 2000. we dont want him running a lean engine above 2000.
  3. a new cam will make it run a little rougher, ive always set it to 10 and 12 never had a problem. that wouldnt make a difference on idle that much tho. just play with your carbs if you have any to adjust your idle. other than that you sound fine.
  4. why would you want a 4-barrel carb on a datsun? i want to kick the guy who designed that manifold square in his nuts. stick with SU's or webers, or somthing of that sort.
  5. hey mack, which head gasket do you use with your engine, the maxima or z? thinkin about it the bore on the maxima was smaller, so the L28 z gasket would prob be the best.
  6. pick yourself up a multimeter, its def worth it if you plan on doin all the work on your car by yourself. that and a test light. you will use it all the time, i do. make sure your getting the right voltage at the battery, and all that stuff. check resistance of main wires. saves alot of time then guessing. good luck

    head's ?

yea your prob better off with the e88

    head's ?

you can use your e88, assuming you have a 260 (from your name). Its a good head once you port and polish and shave a bit off the bottom. or... you can do what im planning to do this summer. i bought a 84 maxima n47 head, it has a 40cc heart shaped combustion chamber perfect for high compression. itll put your CR around 11.0 with flattop pistons. only argument against it is the steal liners in the exhaust port, like in the p79. but they dont make a huge difference. Mack is running this setup, you can ask him how he likes it.
  9. my bad didnt pay attention to the year and model, def look into replacing that alt.
  10. i work at napa and my price for 4x4 loaded calipers is nowhere near $100. you guys cant forget the core charges on these calipers. some places wont except your small Z calipers as the core, but then again most people dont notice. but your cost on a loaded caliper minus the core is around $100 a side, plus new lines. but its worth every penny.
  11. sounds like a regulator, which it doesnt seem you have replaced yet. often this piece fails in z cars. its the black box mouted on the fender by the alternator. you should search the forum and look for alternator upgrades. i think an 80's maxima/300zx alternator is best, internally regulated. on a second note, those bocsh plugs you have are a waste of money, any NGK would work just as good if not better.
  12. hegan, first the heads arent reffered to as 47 or 48. second no Lseries z came with a crossflow head. althought they did come on the RB Lseries skylines, heavy mods nessicary for swap. and for a list of heads that came on different blocks you can visit http://www.geocities.com/zgarage2001/z.html. here you can see the terms used to denote different heads.
  13. Mack, which headers do you use? i know you have or still do run this head.
  14. Thanks fl327, ill ask MSA about their headers. And 2126, the liners in the exhaust dont make a difference, or a significant difference, in performance. And porting a mn47 can be done. The chamber volume and shape is way better than all other heads, with out any machining.
  15. i just picked up a maxima n47 at the salvage yard. I see that it has round exhaust ports. i was told that a header for square ports will fit, but i dont know how well that works for performance. is there a round port header that will fit and not have any clearance problems in my 260z?
  16. the ITBs, in my opinion, are way better than a single TB. ITBs increase Volumetric Efficiency by alot, especially with a ram type air box. they maybe harder to tune, but when tuned right, the throttle response is leagues ahead of a single TB. But the tuning is key, and unless you can do it yourself, its goin to cost big bucks. Buying an after market fuel controller is def recommended.
  17. alot of race cars go with individual Throttle plates rather than one, effectively you just end up with one large throttle plate in the end (by adding the areas of each individual). def way better if you can afford it and fabricate what you need. Youd have to make up some sort if air box also.
  18. just noticed that the are just rears, id like to have the same all around, which arizana zcar has..
  19. hey im really interested in these wilwood setup from jsk inovations. have you done business with them in the past, or know how reliable they are?
  20. well def the best of luck, you have def put alot of time into this. im not trying to shatter any dreams of the DOHC Z car. and i hope it works out, it would be a great achievment, and you would rake in alot of dough.
  21. im all about what your saying, most of that stuff i am goin with. but i think for brakes im goin to run the arizona zcar set up, ive always like that set up ever since we ran them on our scca rx-7. of course it was a little different, but the same idea with the 2 part rotor and wilwood calipers (prob the best on the market)
  22. sounds awesome, its nice to hear how someone has taken care of their datsun for such a long time. i was thinkin of getting the crane cams ignition but have heard alot about reliability with them. so ive decided to spend the extra few bucs and go with the msd ignition. . does any one know what the best/popular 6-series igniton is? and isnt the zx flywheel bigger than the z, not just the clutch? and if it is what did you do about the starter? ive got a four speed and im goin to try to stick with is as long as possible, i think its just the fact of being different, nothing to do with performance, although i guess itll be good when im pullin away from a little civic, less shifting one last thing, i was thinkin about that harmonic problem, i really dont plan on takin my z up that high for constant power, so im sure it wont be a problem for me. i might actually set my rev limiter around there, depending on how my setup runs
