  1. If you find a decent number of people who want to do this I would be willing to help you. I suspect though the limits of what is practical might start to come into play though as it may make more sense for these cars to run completely different suspension and hubs, a 10.5 or 11" wide wheel would require around -30mm off offset which starts to become really substantial. Also do note that there will be significantly lighter options at that sizing, it would be more of a for looks wheel probably.
  2. I wrote this calculator for finding front and back spacing... http://www.autolounge.net/calculators/tirespacing.html Here is the approx BS and FS for the 3 wheels: 8.5" +04 /---/ 4.90"BS /---/ 4.59"FS 9.0" -13 /---/ 4.48"BS /---/ 5.51"FS 9.5" -19 /---/ 4.50"BS /---/ 5.99"FS So as you can see, the 8.5" sticks out about 1.4" less than a 9.5" and the 9" a little under 1" more than the 8.5". Hope that helps.
  3. The 9.5" and 9" have the same backspacing of 4.5" so yes you should be able to fit them no problem. IIRC the back has something like 5.5" of BS available with stock coils. =]
  4. Okay, so I was able to contact Kim without any issue. If you are someone who has an issue currently and for whatever reason CANNOT contact Kim, please PM me your email address, name, and issue and I will talk to Kim about it and see if I can get it cleared up. I don't really have much time at all anymore because I am finished up my mechanical engineering degree, but I am still committed to keeping this group buy running.
  5. Kim has always been hard to communicate with and a little bit slow. I would suspect that he is just taking a while because he is busy. I sent him an email to see if he responds, if he doesn't then I will try and call him.
  6. I would tell them the specification of the tire and be frank with them that you don't want your wheels to be screwed up, see what they say. When I was having the prototypes fitted with used tires all the shops seemed to be struggling pretty hard, if they were new wheels I would be afraid of them getting scuffed up. I didn't go to any specialist though and with all the low profile tires out now, I would think that they have gotten better at mounting these types of tires.
  7. Those are RB-R's for sure. A lot of people like 9.5" all around because they can rotate the tires. Also, more section width does not always necessarily mean more stick. I am so glad this is still going and people are enjoying these wheels. Ironically mine are sitting in a box as I have lost momentum on my own Z. Haha. =]
  8. I am confused as to why you would send payment for one wheel without contacting him... You should call him, his phone number should be on rotawheel.com.
  9. This is answered 3 post before. To order the wheels email Kim at that address. I doubt you will find these or want to buy them off Ebay or wheel shops - it would just cost more.
  10. Strange, what is the aspect ratio on those tires? Are you running stock control arms?
  11. IIRC using a BS over 4.5" will also require steering rack limiters up front. I think that is why I chose 4.5" BS ultimately.
  12. Well the group buy has always required flares, coilovers have never been required, nor lowering springs. Kind of makes the four different categories pointless. The offsets are: 17x9" Front -13mm 17x9.5" Rear -19mm The wheels should fit stock suspension. I recommend 245/40/17 or 255/40/17 front and 275/40/17 rear. You will need to flare. You will need to trim some of the lower valance on the front of the car as well if you are not running an air dam. Even then some air dams may interfere, others do not. Air dams that drop straight down at the front of the wheel well typically do not need to be trimmed. Hope that helps.
  13. Hey guys! Sorry I didn't really do the "repair" of the helical section justice (JMortensen gave me a nice detailed explanation). I know there are inaccuracies in the website and such, I just haven't had time to update it or work on it. I am in my last year of college at UC Davis for Mechanical Engineering and am quite busy with that and enjoying my last years of college. Once I am out though I am sure I will get right back to it. I also made zcarpartsindex.com... if you guys would like to contribute to that I would REALLY appreciate it. I envisioned a wiki dedicated basically to helping Z car restorers and hybridizers but it never really took off. Almost all the content is inputted by me. Here is some differential information for JM. =] http://zcarpartsindex.com/index.php?title=Differential_Listing Also the raw data in the 0-60 times took an extremely long amount of time to compile. There is some good data there for doing statistical calculations and trends etc etc. I just never actually processed it beyond averaging it and such.
  14. Sorry to hear about your missfotune with rushkits.com... this thread though pertains purely to a group buy through the North American Representative for Rota so it doesn't really apply. I highly advise you just deal straight through him. There is almost literally no point in dealing with anyone else as you are just going to pay more or possibly in your case get ripped off. Good luck resolving your issue.
  15. I do not remember off hand. If you search back there are photos and probably the measurement was back there somewhere. If I had to guess I would say the 17x9.5 stuck out about 2"-2.5" in the rear.
  16. Should be, be patient he should get back to you! I don't have a pic off hand, but I promise you they stick out. About an inch to and inch and a half upfront IIRC.
  17. Yasin that looks AWESOME! By far the best 280zx I have ever seen. Really liking the wheels on that, what color did you end up going with?
  18. No one is going to doubt that is your car. In any case, larger flares are required then. An alternative to HRE's that can be more economical might be CCW's or Kodiak racing wheels. Good luck!
  19. This is entirely impossible IIRC on all versions of the RB or RB-R both prototype and production that I saw/specified/measured. It is true that the RB's had a pad maybe 2" thick or something similar, but the holes for the lug nuts were recessed into the pad so that the actual meat between the mounting surface and the bottom of the taper was probably around 5/16". You would need to grind off 13mm of material since it is a -19 offset. You would end up having four approximately 30mm diameter thru holes in your wheel. Personally I wouldn't recommend shaving the back off almost any wheel I have seen since they typically all have around 5/16" of material between the taper and the mounting face. That is from my own experience though, I am sure in the past there have been wheels with much more material after the taper. Sorry for the bad news, you might try starting a Supra group buy if you really have your heart set on these wheels, otherwise go custom or get your hubs redrilled. Lastly you can always flare the car... that is what everyone here is doing since these wheels won't fit our cars either unless we flare them...
  20. In my haste I quickly replied and didn't end up saying what I meant. Sloppy mistake. In any case when I said "I do not deal with 240sx owners", I didn't mean you in specific. I meant as a whole I do not advertise to them because they typically just bash the perceived quality of the wheels. I did not mean to imply in any way shape or form that I will not work with open minded 240sx'ers. I just tend to stay away form their forums as a whole. Sorry if I came off rude, I would like to think myself not "that type of person". When I said I don't think you will have an option, what I meant was: I don't think you will have a problem. As in, it should clear your brakes just fine. A bit of advice, if you are looking to stick wide tires on your car you will be wasting potential going this route because 240sx's have more available backspacing that S30's. That is to say you could add probably an inch to an inch and a half of positive offset to these wheels and fit them fine. Ideally these would probably be 17x9.5 +5 for you or something similar. Then to make up for the inch you slid in you would instead use a 10.5... so spec something around a 17x10.5 -6 or so. Once you find out your BS, I made this handy calculator... enjoy! http://autolounge.net/calculators/tirespacing.html Find out the size you ideally want (be meticulous), get your fellow 240sx'ers together and go in on a buy. That is what I advise. The contact for the representative is here: kimcosmic@juno.com If you just want me to do it all for you, this is possible, if you pay me (haha) but you will still need multiple people. You basically have to become the representative for Rota for about a year and a half. I have already done that much though, so maybe this time around it would be shorter, but I doubt it. Good luck!
