  1. Jeromio, That's good that you were able to get them to fit in there. When I removed the 4:11 rear end out of the 200sx turbo I just noticed the longer shaft is on the driver side. Both of the input shafts are different. You can fit them inthere but I am sure that they are not lock in there by the circlips. I will go home today and try to see the longer shaft will lock if I put it on the pass side. I can almost certain that the longer input shaft will not slide all the way in.. but I might be wrong.. will check tonight.
  2. Hi all, For all you 4:11 R200 fan in here. Did you know that the 4:11 R200 from the 200sx turbo requires the longer half shaft on the driver side? and the shorter one on the pass. side? Note the 280zxt R200 is the opposite. The longer shaft is on the pass. side and the shorter one on the driver side. I would like to talk to whoever have done this swap and see how they got around this problem and notice that noone said anything about this.. Here is what I have studied. If you want to do this swap you will will need the 280Z R200 half shafts. With these shafts you can remove the 4 bolts and swap just the input shafts and you are done. With the CV shafts you will have to open up the rubber boot and swap the input shafts and then repack the boot. Also be aware of 1 type of non viscous 3.7 LSD, I have one, that used the same type of configuration for the half shafts. short one on the pass. side and long one on the driver side. I have 2 3.7 LSD and they look exactly the same. One will fit with the 280ZXT half shafts fine but the other needs some modifications to the input shafts to fit. Vinh http://vvu.triopd.com
  3. Hey, The ignition sounds very easy. You need to connect your toggle switch ( I would never use a toggle switch for this application. Use a momentarily switch ) thru a relay and this relay will be energized by your ignition key ( in the run position only). Get yourself a 4 prongs relay. Pin 85 and 86 are for your selenoid Pin 30 is common Pin 87 is Normally open. Connect 1 side of your switch to ground and the other to pin 85 Connect pin 86 to the power coming out of your ignition in the run position. Connect pin 87 to your starter wire (Note: after the ignition key, not before). Now if your remote controll has another ground output you can use that to start the car instead of using the manual switch.. Sound good? hihi.. Good luck Let me know if you need other help.. Oh about the smoke thingy.. I thought about that along time ago too.. but I rather spit out oil though LOL.. J/K Vinh http://vvu.tripod.com
  4. Hi Balford, You will need the wiring harness that runs under the dash for the digital cluster. The plugs in the back of both clusters are different. Also you will need the temperature sending unit that comes with the car that has the digital dash. Your best bet is to buy an entire wiring harness from an 83 car and it will depends on whether you will go with turbo or N/A motor also. Check on the passenger side kick panel to see you still have 4 big plugs there. If they are still there all u need is the wiring harness for the dash. If not the previous owner had removed the entired wiring harness for the car and ran his own wiring. If he ran new wires then you will have to figure out where all the wires from the dash will go to ie. which sensors go where and which is power etc.... Look like a big mess here. Alot of people said these digital meters have alot of problems but not me.. I converted my car from an analog to digital. The JTR will not help you with this. BTW there are some differences between the turbo and non turbo wiring harness even the one goes to your dash. If your car was a N/A then u need to get an N/A harness otherwise you will have to cut and reconnect some wires. Email me if you need any help. I think I have a harness for the digital setup and the cluster also. Vinh http://vvu.tripod.com
  5. Here is a picture of my dash with the gauges in the stock location. Http://vvu.tripod.com/zxspyder/gauge3.jpg Not that difficult to put them in the stock locations. Vinh
  6. DavyZ, Yes I used the torch to burn it. You have to knock the center metal piece out before you can burn it. Vinh
  7. Check out my scoop.. You can make it with your stock 280zx hood. http://vvu.tripod.com/myz.html
  8. Pete, Thanks for the info. I did attempt to remove it before burning down the rubber. It's all make sense now.. heheh.. thanks Vinh
  9. Hi all, How do you replace the mustache bar bushing? I didn't order the new bushing yet but I did burned out the old one and seem like there is no way you can remove the metal part around the bushing. Do I need to remove that part or no? Thanks for any help
  10. Just order my ZX spyder kit from John Washington. Anyone did this conversion before? I would like to know where I can get help if I ever run into while doing this kit. Thanks Vinh http://vvu.tripod.com
  11. ScottyMiz, Congratulation to you.. I know exactly how you feel ) .. I can't forget my first trip to the 13s with a $300 stock 280ZXT and 10PSI of boost.
  12. Drax240, After I install it in my Z I will do a write up. In the mean time I am taking pictures of everything as I go along. Anyway if anyone have an clutch type LSD and it has the friction plate in the middle then you will have the same problem as I do. I have always been in Philly. I wish I am in the west coast though. Not too many knowledgable Z guys in Philly that I know of.
  13. I got an odd ball LSD.. but problem solved....
  14. Hi all, Have anyone have a clutch type LSD and the half shafts from a 280ZXT won't fit properly? On my LSD the long CV shafts has about 1/2 an inch extra when it locked up with the circlip and the short CV shaft side all the way in but don't lock up. There is no circlip on one side. The fin cover of the LSD doesn't say that it is a Viscos but I think someone might have swap the cover and sell this unit. What do you guys think?
  15. Thanks for the reply guys. I don't know that chevy block is truely a 383. I might have been fooled by the stickers on the fenders. Anyway the whole drivetrain I could get for 100 or a little more. So my question is even if it is just a 350 what do I need to get 350HP rear wheel out of this motor? Also I want to stay with the auto trans.. Is there any newer car with an overdrive trans that will fit this motor? Thanks again Vinhweb page
  16. Wow.. you guys are amazing.. Originally I was going to use the N/A wiring for the swap and then use the turbo wiring for the ECU and coils but there are 6 more wires that needs to be connected to the main loom of wire (N/A) which runs under the dash accross to the fuse blocks. Instead of spend a day or 2 to figure out where these 6 wires goes to I just did a complete swap of all the turbo wirings harness into the car and it took 1 hour.. Obcourse I had everything out of the car already.. If anyone know where those 6 wires go to please give me an email so I can help my friend later on doing the swap and hopefully we don't have to swap all the wirings out. BTW I have another complete set of turbo wiring for the whole car and the wiring harness for the ECU and coils separately.
  17. Hi all, I've just got a 280Z and definitely will do a V8 conversion on this car. Now I have some questions and hope I can get some answers here. While searching the wreck yard yesterday me and a friend found a couple of good potential motors that we can use. 1 is a 383 Chevy from an Impala the other is a 5.0L 302 from a Lincoln. The 302 look like it just had a rebuild cuz everything was painted and there is no oil leak any where. I am asking myself why that car end up in the wreck yard... Both motor will need a rebuild anyway and I am leaning toward the 383 motor. My question is does this thing fit into a Z? and how much HP can I get out of this motor? My friend has a 302 in his Z now.. so I want something else in mine. Feel free to give some inputs guys.. Thanks
  18. I can't tell it's a 305 or 350 but while I was at the yard I heard a couple guys chatting nearby and 1 guy was asking did the jag came with a chevy 350? I think I will pull the drivetrain on this Jag.
  19. Hi all, I found a Jag with the JTR conversion in a yard. I can probably get the whole drivetrain for $200. My question is how much will it cost me for a shop to rebuild the motor? and how much would it cost to get this thing in the 350HP range? Please email me if you like.. Thanks for any help.. Vinh anh3pa@hotmail.com http://vvu.tripod.com
  20. what type of motor does the 80's Ford F150 truck has? anyone know? did anyone ever put this motor into a 280ZX? Thanks for any info
  21. Thank you all for the info. I just met a guy with a 79 camaro with a 350 in it and it is for sale 2000 OBO. He claims it produce 400HP and he is running low 12s. I don't believe a word he said but instead of building a motor what do you think if I buy something like this and take the drivetrain and drop it in my 79ZX? How long should I expect an engine like this to last? I am trying to build a low 12s ZX car and if I wanted to I can put some NOS to get into the 11s.. My original intention was to build the L6 turbo like Scottie had which I had most of everything to do the project but I want to look into other alternatives. I love the turbo L6 and love to surprise street racing people in Philly with my old L6 ZX... BTW last night another Cobra mustang was killed by my 13s 280ZXT and I heard my friend said he was spraying too... hehehe.. Thanks for all the help again...and have a happy new year everyone...take care
  22. Thank you all for the info. Does this mean all the V8 chevys have 350 engines? There is a local junkyard that has many old cars, camaro, T/A, olds, buick... you name it... 70 thru mid 80's. Can someone point me to a specific model with the 400 SB? Is there any number stamp on the block so I can identify it? How do I know the block is any good? what to look for etc....? should I pull the trans from the same car? if not which trans from which car can I get which will fit into a 280ZX without any major modification of my trans tunnel? building an engine is totally new for me so I have lots of questions. Thanks again for all the help
  23. From which older car can I find the HO 350 that I can rebuild? Thanks for any info.
  24. Scottie, Thanks for the info. I have emailed you a couple days ago but don't see any reply so I posted the question on here. I am talking to a couple guys locally and get more info about the SBC also. However I do like turbo cars better especially the GN. I will keep my eyes open for these.
  25. hi all, I am new to this forum. What are the major different between the 84-85 Gns and the 86-87? Can the 84-85 motor capable of big HP like the 86-87? Thanks
