Darrel, The CV axles will not bolt to your 79 stub axle flange. I am not sure the splines for the 79 and turbo stub axle are the same or not. It's not important. The important thing is the 79 stub axles are very very hard to remove because the "big nut" is pinched onto the stub axle shaft. However on the turbo they are not pinched. When I did my conversion I just swap the whole entire rear A-arms from the turbo car. It was much easier that way and also I have 82-83 brakes also. Double check to see the splines for the stub axles are the same on both models. If so I have the turbo stub axles in my garage that I can sell them to you. GL PS. you have to flip up the foam padding to flip the rear differential mount for the R200 to fit.

Dave, Your re-enforcement frame sounds like bullet proof. I would like to see some pictures so I can modify mine. Yes I will be adding the 2 hoops behind the seats this winter. I don't think the car will pass safety inspection without the hoops. While I am at it I will strengthen my frame some more. I will keep checking your cardomain page for update pictures. Thanks

i got my magtech kit and solenoid today! pics inside
VinhZXT replied to JaysZ's topic in Miscellaneous Tech
Jayz, Do you have an earlier Z? If so you may want to attempt to install the selenoid first before shaving the handles. On earlier Z doors you don't have much room (openning) to work with. You may have to cut a big openning toward the bottom rear of the door for easy access and for installing the selenoids and then weld it back. I have done it twice on both of my ZXs and I didn't have any problem but I know the Z doors don't have any big opennings for accessing the inside of the door. Good luck -
I can't see any of the drawings. I would love to see them. The Blue topless ZX is mine. Here is a link for it latest pictures http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/768663/2 I admit the body lines on my Blue ZX are not 100% the way I wanted but it's the best I could do. Edit: OK I went to your page and saw the drawings. I like the idea of the hoops behind the seats. I think I will do that to my ZX. However the rear of the ZX is not that short as compare to your drawings. Also the front of the ZX will be a PITA to change it into a different look. I would add some fender vents. You will need some serious frame reenforcement. I thought I did a good job on the frame reenforcement but when I worked on the exhaust system I had the whole car on the lift I can see the back end pulling a little from the door. I will give it some more thought this next winter.

I think Arizona Zcar used to have something similar to this kit. I am not sure they even make the kit or not now. Those are some nice flares.

I had asked before about how loud these mufflers will be and someone on here said it's not loud. I would like to look for that person who made that claim. This muffler is loud if you get on it and to me it's still too loud and it doesn't sound as good as my Sebring muffler. I probably will stick with it and live with it for now. I will probably getting a silencer replace the test pipe in the middle if I can't bear with the sound. Thanks for the compliments guys. Take care

305240, Thanks for the tips. I was thinking the same thing and that is putting some oil into each cylinder and crank it by hand to lube up the cylinders. Then after it moves freely I will do a compression check on all cylinders. Then I will follow your direction before fire it up. Thanks

HOT ROD tricks... side view mirror door latch mod

Or driving by a huge magnetic field.. -
Hi all, I am getting a 240Z with an SBC and have a few questions. The car has been sitting for a long time (a good 10 years plus) without starting or moving. My questions are: 1. Do the motor need freshen up? If so what's need to be done? 2. Does the carburetor go bad by sitting too long without the filter and/or running? 3. What are the precaution I need to take before starting this car up for the 1st time? 4. What should I expect the 1/4 time for this car after I get it running good? I will probably have more questions after I bring the car home. Thanks in advance for the help..

JaimeT, The last Cobra my friend bought from him had a reconstruction title and VIN #. The title is still in that Vietnamese guy's name. My friend found out that the VIN on the car are not matching with what's in the title. I want find out that did he gave my friend the wrong title or not. Is it possible that you can give him my email address or my phone numbers so he can contact me or he can give me his numbers and I will contact him. My cell number is 215-880-9557. Thanks

Yes please send me your numbers. My brother who helped me a lot with my Zs lives in Norristown with my mom. Frequently on weekends I go back to Norristown to visit my mom. I will call you and check your schedule so I can stop by to check out your Z. I still have that 81 280ZXT in my garage lol .. I don't want to sell it just yet. Yes give me a call if you come down to S. Philly or even Chinatown. It's not far from me. I usually take my new toy to South Street for show off. Bring your Z down and we go together and stop there for coffee or something. Talk to you later. V.

Daw, I don't use that module on my ZX any more. I also put in new wires to all the speakers. Do you want to buy this module? I can still hear it talks but very low from the back where the module is. I think it will be neat to wire this module into earlier cars and hear it talks. lol.. What you think Tomahawk?

Hey, Where in Phila are you at? I am in S. Philly... Please email me at anh3pa@hotmail.com . We need to get more Z folks around Philly and S. Jersey for a gathering. Thanks Or you can call me at 215-880-9557.

I don't have a dinger from newer cars but I do have a buzzer from a 280Z. I can try it and tell you how you can hook it up to the lights or door or whatever you want.. Oh wait I have the talking lady module from the 280ZXs do you want that? lol... It actually says "lights are on"..

HOT ROD tricks... side view mirror door latch mod
VinhZXT replied to JaysZ's topic in Miscellaneous Tech
Jayz, So you choose to carry around a magnet instead of a remote? That's just not making any sense to me at all. With the alarm it also protect your car from being stolen and giving you an option to unlock your car and then pop your door open all by using the remote. If you use the magnet you still need to unlock your door unless you just abandone that. On my car when I shaved the handles I still retain the doorlock but I disabled it from the inside (the mechanical lever) . It can only be unlock electronically thru the alarm or a hidden switch that I installed. That way if I ever left my door open and someone jump in and close the door to steal the car. He will be in deep $hit. My email is anh3pa@hotmail.com feel free to email me if you have any question. Good luck -
I don't understand.. The wire to the coil is the one you suppose to connect from the new relay to give it 12V while cranking. If you get 5.5 Volts that means your power supply (the constant 12V source to the relay) doesn't provide enough juice. Your battery might has a dirty connection or your fusible link is fried and barely conduct electricity. Clean up all your connections at the battery post and check for continuity for the fusible links and make sure you get 12 at the ignition without cranking the car. Then check it again by just turn the key to run.. Then check it when cranking.. Good luck

Phantom, Looking at the pictures from Tony240Z I would say yeah you Z guys would have some serious problem with ground clearance lol... I will have to address that issue with my next project car which is a Z not a ZX..

HOT ROD tricks... side view mirror door latch mod
VinhZXT replied to JaysZ's topic in Miscellaneous Tech
Jayz, I thought your original design was to not using eletronic control of your door popper. Looking at all these tricks above look like when your battery is dead you will be climbing thru the trunk to open your door. If you want to go that route why not just put a remote control alarm in your car. Alarm now a day can give you up to 5 output functions. More than enough to pop your doors roll your window up and down and etc .. and all thru the remote. Why bother going thru the magnet and all other tricks? I have installed 2 of these systems on my Zs and all controlled by a remote control. Very simple to hook up. BTW I bought a 2 door popper kits and it cost 130. You got ripped off.. Email me if you want some help.. Otherwise Good luck -
Jeffp still have 1 or 2 extra sets. Do a search for his name here and you should be able to find his web site. He did a build for a bunch of people awhile back. He still should have the blue print or design for his system some where. Good luck V.

Here is a picture of the spring and the pivot plate I was talking about. PS. I would try to calibrate it at around 60MPH for the most accuracy around that speed. This spring is sitting right behind the face plate. Becareful when you removing the needle. It's very easy to break it. Good luck all BTW I just open up the Z speedo and it's the same thing. I am still going to try to put the Z speedo into the ZX housing. Here is a picture of the RPM replaced with the Z face
-
Randy, if you do that the speed will not be acurate at a different speed. Nevermind guys... I figured out how to calibrate the speedo.. EASY... check the post below.
-
OK I figured it out. That circular spring has a pivot point and that point is attached to a small plate. This plate is made so that you can slide it around to increase or decrease the tension on the spring. I have the dremel tool to help me get the exact RPM to set the speed but the dremel is spinning the wrong way so it does no good for me. What I ended up doing was drive my car and see how much is it off (let say 10MPH). Then remove the speedo and hook up to a cordless drill thru a speedo cable and get it to max speed it can get (Let say 40MPH). Then turn the pivot plate for the spring increase or decrease depends on how your speed was off. Move a little at a time and recheck the speed. Keep doing this until your max speed is the original speed minus or plus the off speed (the 10MPH). Then you are done. PS. If you have something that can spin exactly 1024 RPM then you can set it at 60MPH just like what it says at the bottom of the face in small texts. No more playing with the wrong cogs to get my speed correct. Good luck guys
