It's awesome to see the love and respect that Datsun has enjoyed since its very early years. Of course racing success and style go along way in the minds of motor mad, and Datsun has always had a lot of both. Still it's nice to flip through coverage of this year's SEMA show and see countless iterations of Datsun bliss, including this very interesting OS Giken build of a LD28 block with a version of their tc24 head done by Z Car Garage. This NA setup is purportedly making over 400hp and begs the question are all the blocks we've been ripping cranks out of for years going to be the next hot ticket. Probably not for the average Joe but it seems that with the taller block you could run an even longer stroke forged crank than you could otherwise. Of course it would require some ingenuity in the head department as well. This brings me to a question that has been rolling around in my head for a while, and I think it's been done, but I'm having trouble tracking down any real world info. I'll preface, this is a budget build question. OK, so here it is: If I grab a late flat top L28e from the junkyard and stick the crank and rods out of my L24 in it will it work? I would have figured this would have been one of the most common back yard builds since you end up with a motor that has only slightly less displacement that the L28, but a compression ratio of between 10:1 and 11:1 depending on head and gasket, along with the more favorable B/S and R/S ratios people are so keen to focus on. Any input or real world experience would be appreciated. I just love the idea of an all Nissan build that can be done with junk yard parts and result in this kind of compression. Any thoughts, or am I totally out in left field on this one?

Hi i have been reading through the forums and FAQ regarding CLSD types and wish to purchase a OS Giken unit but i am having trouble working out which one... Is the NS046-HA simply a straight bolt in apart from the bushes to go from 10mm to 12mm bolt holes for a 1976 260z? As this is what appears to be suggested in the threads i have read. The Distributor here in Aus suggested that the unit i need is the same as the SR20DET S13, which is part number NS044-HA according to the OS Giken website and that there were more than just minor modifications required to make it all work. As far as i know they don't stock the NS046-HA so its likely that i will have to order from overseas. Appreciate any feedback, Regards David

So I've reached a point where my research capabilities are failing me. I want to use an OS Giken Superlock in my longnose r200 (I know there is some mention of bushings to match bolt sizes? Not sure, but my diff builder said it was no issue). I know they have one for the 240Z R180, but there is no specific mention of one for the R200 from the 280Z. Are there any other long nose R200s that are identical such that a posi made for it would work in my current housing? I will be running the AZC suspension/brakes all around, 19 inch wheels in the rear with 305/30/ZR19 Hankook RS3s. Thus, I am also trying to figure out which rear end gear ratio to use. I'm rebuilding this diff right now and I want to do it right the first time. I should be making around 600rwhp (HCI LS7). My plan is to use the 2.66, 1.78, 1.30, 1, .8, .63 T56 Magnum (I think the taller 1-3 ratios will help with traction). The car will be a fun HPDE car for road courses, but will make the occasional trip to cars and coffee (Performance is more important than low cruise rpm). The car will not see the drag strip. I know all of this requires a stout rear end setup, so I figured the OS GIken + AZC setup would be a good start. Any other recommendations are welcome. Not sure exactly how crazy I need to go axle-wise to avoid issues. Thanks in advance for the help -- I'm trying to do this once and do it right!
