Hi everyone! I'm looking for rubber door seals for my 1978 280Z. The rubber I am looking for is the membranes that house the dome light switches which signal the dome light to turn on/off when the door is open/closed. I'm aware that of all the rubber I can get for the car THESE haven't been in production for years. If you have new or used pieces I am interested as I need them for my restoration.

I was cleaning out the inside of my car took off the seats checking for rust and as I was doing so I found on top of the floor pans there was hard rubber that seems to be stuck on top of my floor pans and in certain spots at the edges you could see small rust spots. My question is should I rip off this rubber to get to the floor pans to see if there’s any more damage? I posted soon pics and I put a screwdriver parsley underneath the rubber to show what I’m talking about — At first I thought it was the metal until I found out that it’s molded on top off the floor pan kind of like a sticker

It all began with a cleaning... then as I started to grind away the small rust spot on the tailgate, the hole kept getting bigger. the plastic cover was hiding a huge hole. Here is how I fixed the rust holes, and rear hatch: I cut out the areas that had rust with an angle grinder I cut out matching pieces of 16 GA steel and bend to match existing I painted all the parts and all around the hatch with POR-15, doing the whole cleaning and etching process and installed NOS inner weatherstripping and the top portion of outer weatherstripping Re-installed rear tail pieces, and lights Then I turned my attention to the hatch hinges, which were ripping off at the seams. I welded them on the top And underneath And that was about a weekend of work, for an amateur.

I learned a few tricks when installing my bumpers. ( as requested by California Highway Patrol) I bought some used ones and the rear must have been in a slight accident because the bolt flanges were bent and did not align with the body holes. Tip #1 Hammering then prying the side flanges on the rear bumper back into shape does not work we'll. cut a piece of wood about 1.5" x 1.5" and jam it under the flange. Stand it on its end the hammer it down. Works great. Tip #2 To attach the rear bumper, fasten the straight part to the body first, then attach the side flanges to the body next, then screw the sides to the straight part. Reason - if there is any irregularities, the holes will not align if you try to install the whole thing at once. Tip #3 Use some 1/2" (inside hole dimension) rubber bearings between the body and side flanges of the rear bumper. Gives good spacing.
