Rear Brakes for E Production

Recommended Posts

I believe they run stock brakes or early 280ZX. Greg Ira would know for sure, he's the most successful EP Z racer in the country. I've seen him here but I think he frequents www.classiczcars.com more, so you might sign up there if you're not already a member and PM him.

From the GCR:

b. Cars fitted with rear drum brakes, can convert to rear disc

brakes. When converting from rear drum brakes to rear disc

brakes:

1. Rear brake rotors can be no larger in diameter than the

largest permitted front brake rotor. Rear brake rotors must

be solid and made of a ferrous material. Rear brake rotors

can not be cross drilled or slotted.

2. Rear brake rotor hats can be made of a ferrous or aluminum

material.

3. Rear calipers and mounting brackets are unrestricted but

must be made of a ferrous or aluminum material.

The standard and alternate brake listings on a vehicle’s specification

line, does not prohibit a car that was fitted with rear

drum brakes as stock from converting to rear disc brakes under

this rule.

240 VTS

(Front) 252mm (9.92) Vented Disc

(Rear) 258mm or 269mm Solid Disc - Discs and calipers from 280-ZX.

We have Doug Piners old EP car we have zx lightened rotors with wilwood dynalite singles, we are looking to upgrade to the Sierra rears (you have to turn down the stubs to fit the hats) but they will be about 2 lbs lighter then the lightened zxs.

Greg runs the dynalite duals about 1 lb more for the caliper, but pads last longer (larger pads), both will work well we have had no probles with fade and pads are good for 5-6 races I belive Greg runs hawke pads we run the performance friction. You will have to fabricate a mount no one makes one to fit the calipers, but its not a big deal to modify an existing mount to work.
