Guest Anonymous
I just found an early 70s camaro that I can get for $2500. It has a decent body, ect, but what I like is the motor. Its a stoker motor (350 with 400-type crank) with an MSD ignition, forged pistons, full roller timing (rockers, lifters, chain, rods, everything), nice built double hump heads with 2.02 valves and hipo springs, and even a 150hp nitrous shot. The bottle is even full! The car was set up for dragging. I'm not interested in dragging, so I'll probably take off the nitrous stuff and sell (anybody interested?). The only problem is that my parents (who I am going to be living with for a few more years until I'm out of college) said that if I buy that camaro, I will NOT buy any more cars, even if I want to put the camaro's engine in something else. So it looks like no Z for me (wah!) The good thing is that all this car needs is a paint-job and its good to go! Street legal and all. I'm no expert, but I think that that camaro will far outperform a Z I could build with my budget. Any Z I build will have a measly 300-350 HP and everything will be cheaply done, plus it will take me a year to finish. So, I think I'll be taking the camaro. I know that a lot of yall will be able to dust me, but I don't care. You'd still be able to dust me if I had a 280z. At least the Camaro will have a bad-ass motor rather some rinky dink thing I could cook up. The boy is selling it cause he is hard up for cash, and he got in a motorcylcle accident and is paralized waist-down. So he can't race anymore. The car's body needs a lot of work to look good, but I can do that myself (I'm pretty good with paint and body work). What do you guys think? auxilary
don't remind me.... i have a bike and a project Z.. hopefully I won't wind up like that having to sell my unfinished car to someone because i cannot use my legs
Guest Anonymous
Yeah, it is kinda sad isn't it. Well, if I can get up the cash, I'm gonna buy it. I'll put that motor to good use and finish the car. It's a Z (28 that is), just not a datsun. Well, he did get quite a few runs out of it before his accident, and he was happy with it. At least it won't waste away. I'm the only person who has been really interested in it, probably since I'm the only one around here who knows what that engine is worth. Will anybody want the nitrous related stuff? I don't like nitrous, and my parents won't let me buy it unless I promise to remove the nitrous related stuff. Besides, its plenty powerful without the shot of nitrous. [ October 05, 2001: Message edited by: Jack300z ]
PETEW
I might be interested in the Nitrous. Obviously I would like to know which kit it is and whose kit it is. I also would need to know how much your trying to get for it. I don't know if you can ship a full bottle, either. Where are you located? DavyZ
Well, Jackmeister, we will miss you. $2500 is a steal for a decent Camaro IMO, especially one that's been fixed up. If you don't want to drag the car, eventually put a Hotchkis Suspension kit on the car with lowering springs--that way it'll handle really well and you'll enjoy it more fully. I would not pass up on the deal if I were you--you can always build a Z next time. BTW--a z with the same motor will dust the Camaro, but the Camaro is a deal, so don't pass it up Davy
pparaska
I want to cry. I had a 70 (well, some people call them 70-1/2) Camaro in high school - my first car. I built my first motor (327) for it, really loved it, lost my vir.. (oh, never mind), and always wanted it to be a Z28 (of course). Too bad it had to use it to take down a telephone pole . Now (21 years later ) I'm wanting another one. And the Orange Hotchkis one in the Chevy High Performance mag has me drooling. Go for it bud. V8 Datsun Z's are the end all of cars (I'm sure Goatman would agree ). I love them, but a fast 70 Z28 that needs paint for $2500! Go for it! I'm jealous! You can always do the Z later - life's not that short!
Guest Anonymous
I know that a Z with the same motor will dust the camaro. BUT, were 'I' to build a Z, I would not be able to build near as good of an engine. Maybe one day after I graduate and get a good job, I'll build a Z. But don't think that your rid of me that easily LOL! I'm still going to hang out here (hey, I still have my 3 300zx's (2 not running), not to mention my mazda truck (not running)and my 2 chevelles (not running), and of course my El Camino (wrecked, and not by me), and my VW rabbit (not running).) Hmmm, maybe my Mom has a point about me having too many 'junk' cars?? Hehehe! Well, even if my Z won't be a Datsun, I'm still going to hang out here. You guys are the best dang people around to talk to about cars in general. Besides, the GM muscle croud went and got me POed with them. Stupid old goat, hehehe. I like this sandbox, I think I'll stay. Hehehehe! I seriously think that that camaro is my best bet for my budget. Well, hopefully I can get up the money before somebody else comes along and snatches it. I think that a local dragging team is thinking about buying it for parts. That would really hurt. Oh, if I get it I'll be sure to post info on the NOS stuff in case anybody decides they want it. I really dislike NOS, I've seen too many people have engine fires due to NOS. Guest Anonymous
Thanks Pete! I'll be sure to keep yall posted on my progress with the Camaro. I hope that I can get up the money before that drag team snatches it up. OH yeah, that reminds me, I found out about a guy in Darlington that drags a 260z with a chevy big block! I'm going to see if I can track him down and get pics for you guys. Of course, he has more in his car than most people have in their houses, hehehe. You know, I love the attitude on this board. Imagine if I posted a similar message on a camaro board, but with a 280z substituted for the z28? Can you say 'riot'...hehehe. You guys are cool
Guest Anonymous
I think I'm going to have to agree with Jack guys...this is the best car site I've EVER found! I mean, if it wasn't for this site, i never would have driven and bought my Z...it was in slipshod shape, but my young, open mind quickly realized the potential beneath those stylish fenders....Thanks guys! Mikelly
Jack, Buy it. Sounds like a deal. If you keep it for a few years and either sell the car or upgrade the engine, there you'll have a good candidate for a Z when you get out of school and make REAL money! And you are still welcome here. Mike
